Having shot down two Sukhoi bombers belonging to Iran the other day, the Qataris have been emboldened. Now they have delivered a blow of their own to Iran, for themselves and also as a sign of solidarity with the other Gulf Arab states that have been targets of Iranian aggression. Qatar’s attack on Iran, that came after Iranian missiles had been launched against Qatar’s main airport, is of great significance as the first example of a Gulf Arab state retaliating against Iran. Qatar on Tuesday denied that it had joined the “campaign targeting Iran” after senior western diplomatic sources told The Jerusalem Post that Doha carried out strikes inside Iran over the past 24 hours in retaliation for recent Iranian drone and missile attacks on the Gulf country.
The Qatari action reportedly came after the country said it thwarted an attempted attack on Hamad International Airport in Doha, according to remarks by Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari cited by N12. Al-Ansari said Qatar did not receive advance warning from Iran ahead of the missile launches.
An N12 report on the strikes, also citing western sources, said the Qatari strike occurred within the last day. The network did not provide details about the targets, the type of strike, or the scope of the reported operation. Qatar also did not publicly announce a strike inside Iran in the statements quoted in the N12 report.
The Qatari spokesperson seemed to deny the report in a statement issued on X/Twitter on Tuesday, writing that “Qatar has not been part of the campaign targeting Iran.
“We are exercising our right in self defense and deterring Iranian attacks against our country,” al-Ansari added. Iran did not issue an immediate comment….
Al-Ansari also rejected what he called a mistaken assumption that pressure on Gulf states would push them back into nuclear negotiations with Tehran following Iranian strikes, N12 reported….
It’s not the Gulf states that Iran hopes would be “pushed back into nuclear negotiations” but the United States. Iran hopes that by attacking the Gulf states, they in turn will pressure the Americans into halting the war on Iran. But it has badly miscalculated. Iran’s attacks on nine of its neighbors has only enraged them, and they are now rooting for the Americans and — though very quietly — for the Israelis, to succeed in destroying Iran’s ballistic missiles and putting paid to its nuclear program. Having been repeatedly attacked by those fanatical Shi’a, whom the Sunnis already despise as “rafidite dogs,” the Sunni states want the Americans and Israelis to so batter the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and the Basij, that they will be unable to suppress the millions of Iranians who are preparing to go back out to protest against the regime. The Sunni states that Iran has attacked now agree with Trump and Netanyahu that regime change in Tehran is essential.
The Qatari strikes came amid a widening regional confrontation following the US-Israel campaign against Iran and Iranian missile and drone attacks across the Gulf, including attempted strikes on civilian infrastructure in Qatar, as reported by CNN and cited in Reuters coverage carried by The Jerusalem Post.
Qatar is now the first of the Gulf Arab states to retaliate against Iran for its attacks. But it will likely be followed, soon enough, by the UAE which has had hundreds of ballistic missiles fired at it by Iran, more than Iran has launched against Israel — and then, one suspects, by Saudi Arabia, enraged by the attacks on the Ras Tanura oil refinery and by the attack, in the middle of the Saudi capital of Riyadh, on the American Embassy.
As usual, when there are Muslims fighting Muslims, we should hope that both sides win.

The one after Qatar may not be Emirates or Saudis, but rather Turkey, which intercepted an Iranian missile that flew into their airspace. They’re now talking about NATO retaliating. Funny that Turkey wants to deal w/ Iran at will, ignoring NATO or the US, but when an Iranian missile flies in, suddenly they want NATO to respond? Actually, in these 2 cases, I wouldn’t be too unhappy if islamic republican missiles hit targets in Turkey or Qatar

About Erdogan, I could have seen him try to fill the void in Iran if the country descends into chaos.
