‘Islamic Freedom’ Is Slavery to Sharia: Why Muslims Reject Real Liberty and Democracy

Muslims claim that since freedom and democracy have been imported from the West, they are not suitable for our societies, because for a Muslim, freedom lies in acting upon his Islamic teachings, which are far better and superior to the freedoms that the West gives to its citizens. So is this claim correct?

When we look at the structure of religious institutions and Islamic parties, we come to know that no matter if they use the voting system, their structure remains pyramidal, in which the power of authority revolves only around a few limited personalities who are called ulama, murshids, and ayatollahs. If these institutions revolve around this same class, then what understanding of democracy do these people have?

In all the literature of Muslims, lies, deception, and wordplay have been used to distort the reality of human freedom. After taking a round of Islamic teaching in Pakistan and other similar Islamic countries, I reached the conclusion that if the word “Islamic” is removed from the title of this article and replaced with “Fascism,” there would be no significant difference in the meaning.

How can Islam be a source of freedom when its blood-stained, filthy Sharia still contains the dirty laws of slavery and bondage today? How can this Islam give freedom to human beings when it discriminates between the rights of man and woman, and master and slave? How can freedom emerge from Islam when it discriminates in the rights and duties of the citizens of the same homeland simply because they differ from Muslims in their religion and belief? What alms has the beggar given?

The German Orientalist Franz Rosenthal, in his book The Muslim Concept of Freedom Prior to the Nineteenth Century, says: “In Islam, freedom means handing over the individual to the law and the divine order.”

The truth is that the word “freedom” does not even exist in the vocabulary of Islam, because the word “hurriyyah” is derived from “hurr,” which is the opposite of “abd” (slave), and its meaning is that a human being should not be the slave of another human being. The modern meaning of freedom is first found in the writings of Ibn Hayyan, Farabi, and Razi among the Arabs, which were influenced by Greek philosophy. However, even this could not go beyond empty talk and was never seen in practical application. According to the song of freedom that today’s Muslims sing, human freedom is absolutely rejected because it has come from the West. Its only and true alternative is contained only in the servitude (slavery) to Allah. But what does this mean? Does it mean that by adopting this principle we can form free human societies?

Absolutely not. They are playing with people’s minds through these words. Their whole meaning is that “real freedom” is that you submit to the laws of the Islamic heavens, which they call “Sharia.” Now, who has said that these laws are heavenly? Certainly they themselves — the Muslim molvis, mutawwas, sheikhs, imams, Ayatollahs and Muslims in West. Now, who will enforce these laws on you? They themselves will enforce them — the very ones who have fabricated these laws. Now, if you break their fabricated laws, who will punish you? They themselves will give the punishment because all power and rule will be in their hands. Only they will have the right to dictate to western politicians which laws can be made and which cannot. Nice game, isn’t it!? With their simplicity, which only fools can swallow, the Muslim public opinion keeps singing the same tune.

This is neither freedom nor democracy. Freedom exists only when power is in the hands of the people, not in the hands of mullahs and Ayatollahs. The modern style of Islamic governance is similar to aristocracy, which has now become extinct, and in which power rests in the hands of religious clerics and their representative politicians. The European aristocracy used to claim that they governed according to heavenly teachings and applied “divine law” on the slaves — that is, on the common people. If you change the words — put Islamic Sharia in place of the holy book — you will reach the same lie, the same deception, and the same conclusion every time.

This is a foolproof plan that begins with seizing power and taming the public through “religious aristocracy” and ends with a theocratic system of governance, after which an emirate or caliphate will be established and we will come under the rule of a 7th-century caliph who was fond of slave girls and concubines. He will send our children to death in the name of wars and ghazawat.

The sheikhs and ayatollahs of Islam do not attack democracy directly. Instead, they play a naked game consisting of three stages:

1. They claim that a human being cannot be given complete freedom because lust dominates him, therefore he should be bound by some “Sharia” rules.
2. They search for such examples that highlight the negative aspects of Western freedom, such as: “A woman in Sweden married her dog. Is this the so-called freedom of the West?” and so on. Fools easily fall into the trap of such stories, of which there is no shortage in our lands.
3. Then, pretending to advocate for your reason, they lead you to the conclusion that freedom should not be unlimited; rather, some restrictions should be imposed on human personal conduct, freedom, and choices — but according to whose standards? Certainly according to their own standards

Read any column about freedom in Islam or democracy in Islam, and you will see these same three lollipops hidden in it.

Here, Islam is playing a sensitive game by hitting at the hidden impulses of extremism and racism among Muslims. Muslims have been extremely harsh regarding women. They do not want women to become equal to men in any way or to gain freedom. Examples of this are scattered throughout the Islamic world — high rates of rape in Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Kurdistan; collective sexual harassment of women in Egypt; As of 2026, the Taliban maintains a near-total ban on girls’ secondary and higher education, and severe restrictions on women’s employment in most formal sectors; wrapping them in the black tent called burqa in the name of honor and robbing them of their freedom, etc.

“In the same vein, Pakistan treats its women brutally in the name of Islam through thousands of annual honor killings, widespread acid attacks, extremely low conviction rates for rape (often below 1-2%), forced conversions and marriages of Christian and Hindu girls, and deeply discriminatory interpretations of Sharia-influenced laws that continue to restrict women’s autonomy and justice.” Muslims have also been harsh against other religions, which in their view are “distorted religions,” so their heavenly law is also “fake” and not “pure” like the Salafi-Wahhabi version. Therefore, equality with these kafirs cannot be allowed in a free, human, democratic society.

Muslims are also intellectually against different classes. They are against Christians, Jews, Hindus, atheists, seculars, liberals, and even religiously moderate people. So how can equal rights and freedoms be given to them?Just think about what will not happen in an Islamic democratic system. Even imagining it is impossible. Look at what happens every day in the Islamic Republic of Iran. Homosexuals are hanged, the heads of men who have sex are chopped off, drinkers of alcohol are flogged, and women are beaten for their clothing. This is the Islamic democracy that is waiting for you. This is the “real Islamic freedom.”

Islam has psychologically crippled Muslims by frightening them. When a Mullahs says to a Muslim: “Do you want your wife to sleep with someone else in the name of freedom? Do you want sodomy to happen openly on the streets? Do you want your daughter to come home pregnant from school? Do you want your daughter to marry a Jew or a Christian in the name of freedom? Do you want this freedom of the West?” Hearing all this, the Muslim falls at the feet of the mullah, screaming, and says: “No… I want Sharia laws. You govern me, please. Power is for Allah, not for the people.”
