That’s what one leftist columnist claims. But he has to ignore the evidence to do so.
The battle over Sharia is getting heated in Texas, and leftists are still insisting that the whole controversy is over nothing, for Sharia is no more threatening than a teddy bear, and even if it does have some draconian aspects, no one, absolutely no one, is even thinking about bringing it to the United States, much less to Texas.
And so it was that Houston Chronicle columnist Chris Tomlinson recently wrote that “Gov. Greg Abbott and U.S. Senate candidates John Cornyn and Wesley Hunt are all stoking fears of Islam in campaign ads. Others, like Railroad Commission candidate Bo French and attorney general candidates Chip Roy, Mayes Middleton, and Aaron Reitz, have promised legal action against Texas Muslims for their religion.” Tomlinson wants you to think that the poor Muslims, of course, have done nothing whatsoever to warrant any of this. The fears that Abbott, Cornyn and Hunt are “stoking” are groundless, and the “legal action against Texas Muslims” as unwarranted as it is unconstitutional.
Tomlinson goes on to fume at Aaron Reitz in particular: “‘Islam is not compatible with Western civilization,’ Reitz declared in one of the most hateful and ignorant ads of this election. ‘Politicians have imported millions of Muslims into our country. The result is more terrorism, more crime, and they even want their own illegal cities in Texas to impose Sharia law.’” Tomlinson adds: “None of that is true; it is pure bigotry. GOP candidates are trying to gain traction from a fake Islamic threat that Christian nationalists implanted in the imaginations of Republican primary voters.”
But is it really fake? Is Islam actually compatible with Western civilization? Can Tomlinson produce a sect of Islam or school of Islamic jurisprudence that does not prescribe death for criticizing Allah, Islam, Muhammad, or the Qur’an? That kind of law can cut into the freedom of speech. Can Tomlinson produce a version of Islam that does not call for women “from whom you fear disobedience” to be beaten (Qur’an 4:34), or that does not allow for polygamy, easy divorce for males, and lesser rights for women regarding inheritance and court testimony? Is Tomlinson aware of Sharia’s laws for non-Muslims, and does he believe them compatible with the Western principle of equality of rights of all before the law?
Ignoring mountains of evidence that Islam is actually not compatible with Western civilization, Tomlinson goes on to pretend that the Republican stance on Sharia in Texas is all such an elaborate deception that even Republicans are calling it out: “‘The Muslim community is the boogeyman for this cycle,’ Texas GOP consultant Vinny Minchillo told Politico. ‘One hundred percent this message works — there’s no question about it. This has been polled up one side and down the other, and with Texas Republican primary voters, it works. It is a thing they are legitimately scared of.’”
Nevertheless, Tomlinson insists, all such concerns are absolutely groundless: “But there is nothing legitimate about those fears. No jurisdiction practices Islamic law, known as Sharia, and no serious politician has suggested making Sharia the law of the land. No foreign Islamic organization has carried out a violent attack in the United States in more than a decade, while the eight attacks and 46 disrupted plots since 2020 were by self-described, homegrown jihadists with no external support, according to research by the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Radical Islam is rare.”
All right. But those facts, if they’re accurate, don’t amount to the idea that Sharia is no threat. Just days ago, a speaker told a large Muslim crowd in New York City: “Oh, don’t scare them, brothers! Relax! They’re over here on purpose to be like, ‘Oh my God!’ Who’s seen those videos where they’re like, ‘Oh my God, the Muslims are taking over New York City!’ Seen those? You seen those? Let them know that we are taking over New York City! Takbir!” And the crowd responds even more enthusiastically than before with a hearty “Allahu akbar.”
The Muslim Brotherhood has drastically increased its influence and activities in the United States over the past two decades and is dedicated in its own words, according to a captured internal document, to “eliminating and destroying Western civilization from within, and sabotaging its miserable house, so that it falls, and Allah’s religion reigns supreme over other religions.”
In line with that, in Aug. 2024, Nihad Awad, the executive director of the Hamas-linked Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), detailed a strategy for gaining political power: “If we commit to do this, four years from now, the Muslim community will have 4,000 new journalists, we will have 4,000 filmmakers, 4,000 lawyers, 4,000 students of political science, 4,000 students of history. The next year we will have another 4,000. Fifteen years from now, the Muslim community will have 50,000, an army of these people. They will design our image, they will protect the truth and the news, most likely many of these people will run for public office and they will become lawmakers…We can have, in ten years, at least 40-50 members of Congress, in the U.S. Congress.”
Also, back in Dec. 2025, a young Somali Muslim in the U.S. made a video. Holding a large photo of Trump, the young man said: “My biggest fear in life is that this man may never witness our full takeover. Yes, he may never wi— witness that. He already witnessed our partial takeover, our little success, in America…. So. He’s old and sick, I know, he may not witness our full takeover. But I promise you that his sons will witness.”
Maybe they will, maybe they won’t. But it would be interesting to see Chris Tomlinson confront this evidence and try in the face of it to sustain his claim that Republican concern about Sharia is baseless. He will, however, ignore it. That’s what leftists do.
More than one threat says
“…Islam is not compatible with Western civilization…” True.
But it is the Left who opened the door and let Islam in to their respective countries in the West.
Islam is a dangerous threat to the Free World.
But the problem is made greater by the defacto Left Wing-Islam political alliance.
If you are concerned about Islam (and you should be), first defeat the Left peacefully at the ballot box. Then deal with the threat posed by Islam.
Get the message out – rid the US Congress, and rid Parliaments (in Westminister style democracies), of all pro-Islam politicians. Save your countries.

Muslims make false claims and deceitful exaggerations, breed a grievance mentality, and aggravate divisions among people in a manner that allows for justification of terroristic violence(Qur’an 3:28,54; 7:99; 8:30, etc.). Allah in Qur’an 49:15 says, “Surely the believers[Muslims] are only those who believed in Allah and his messenger. They do not doubt, and they performed jihad with their MONEY and their LIVES for the sake of Allah. Those are the truthful.” As a result, Non-Muslims are marked for death by Islam and its Muslims.
Allah describes Muslim women in Jenna, Allah’s Paradise, as whores of Allah in Qur’an 56:37. Also, Allah stirs hatred, cursing, and punishment against Christians until the resurrection day when Qur’an 5:14 instructs, “And some of those who say, ‘Surely we are Nasara (Christians),’ we took their covenant. So they have forgotten a part of what they were reminded of, so we have stirred up ENMITY and HATRED among them until the resurrection day. And Allah will inform them of what they were doing.” See also Qur’an 2:225; 5:64; 60:4; 8:55.
Allah demands extortion payments, ‘Jizyah’, from Non-Muslims to humiliate them and make Islam supreme. Allah in Qur’an 9:29 commands, “Engage in war with those who do not believe in Allah nor in the last day. Nor forbid what Allah and his messenger forbid, nor believe in the religion of the truth among those who have given the book until they pay the jizyah out of hand and they are subdued.”
Allah teaches and promotes discrimination when Qur’an 4:101 says, “…Surely the infidels(Non-Muslims) were your clear enemies.” Allah disrespects and detests Jews and Christians for not being Muslims by teaching discrimination and segregation. So, Allah’s apostle in Sahih Muslim 26:5389 says, “Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to the narrowest part of it[where excrement and trash flow].”
MUSLIM BELIEVERS are a greater TERROR than Allah while undermining a society from within using the man-made book of lies and deceit, the Qur’an. Allah in Qur’an 59:13 says, “You[Muslims] are a greater terror in their chests than Allah. This is because they[Jews & Christians] are people who do not understand.” Islam must be banned as illegal, and we have the legal right to defend ourselves from Muslim attacks and violence.

The left’s big campaign is against the bigotry of the average person in the West. They have never taken seriously the idea that the West might be taken over by Muslims, and have never been bothered by the awful things they have done, but instead are constantly fighting against our supposed bigotry.
It took me a long time to see this. After 9/11, they were horrified, not by the attack, but by our reaction to it. “So much hate against oppressed people from the Third World. It’s horrible.” Soon enough, we were being asked, “Why do you think they hate us?” The answer was that they hated us, not because they were hateful people, but because of grievances they had against us. Anyone who looked at all the violence that Muslims engaged in would see that that wasn’t a bit true, but everyone on the left still believes it.
As I said, it took me a long time to see this because it made no sense. Muslims are not progressives, except for a few outliers like Mamdani. And they have murdered plenty of leftists. So, why would they stick up for people who are, objectively speaking, their enemies? And it’s because they are so convinced of the evil of the average American or Brit, etc. We are the ones who are guilty, not Muslims.
Getting through to them on this issue is … well, I don’t have a clue as to how to do it.
And it’s been downhill ever since.

There are plenty of – actually, too many Republicans who want to do outreach to muslim-Americans, so by itself, there is nothing for the GOP to gain by raising this issue. Actually, if the Dems were smart and didn’t hate this country, they could have pulled off an electoral map coup. As it is, they have most of the Jewish and Hindu vote. If a Bill Clinton-like leader had declared his opposition to sharia, islamization and everything that comes w/ it, I daresay they’d have won over a lot of us. And they could have done it not on Republican principles, but on Left-of-Center ones, like Feminism (islamic treatment of women), LGBTQ rights (islamic treatment of gays), colonialism (islamic empire from Pakistan to Gambia), slavery (Mauritania, Sudan and islamic attitudes towards slavery), oil rich sheikhdoms, and so on. If they had done this, I’d have held my nose on other issues, such as taxes, education, economic policy, energy policy and so on and voted for them
I recall on this site, in the 00s, Robert used to point out that this site was neither Left nor Right, but open to everyone who opposed shariah, dhimmitude and everything that came w/ it. In those days, we even had a handful of Centrist as well as Left-Centrist posters here. It was Obama’s treatment of him that probably turned him, but even more than that, Obama’s embrace of jihadist parties like the muslim brotherhood that handed the anti-sharia & anti-jihad movements over to the GOP on a platter

Islam of any kind does not belong in western culture anywhere.
If it was so great and promoted positive ideas why do they all leave their home nations to come to places where it barely exists? Because the global caliphate is their duty and if that means westerners become subservient to their notion of Sharia the goal has been met.
I say no to Islam, no no anyone who comes to my country and refuses to assimilate. They must leave willingly or by force, but they must leave or life as we know it will come to and end. I’m older and am willing to fight to the death. I do not want my kids to have to shoulder this burden. Why we accommodate these people is beyond me.
