It was Israel and not the US that found and took out Khamenei. The Mossad’s spy network within Iran is second to none. They knew where he was (fortified room in his compound) along with his henchmen. A BLU-109 (2000 lb. bunker buster) was all that was needed to take out the Ayatollah and anyone else in that shelter, although it is the Israeli’s style to drop many more bombs than needed if there is a high value target.
And guess what? One who suffers from 3rd degree burns, who is over more than 60 years old and has burns over more than 40 percent of his body and an inhalation injury has about an 85% chance of going bye-bye. The more surface area involved, and survival plummets. There is no way that he would have been “calling the shots.” People with serious burns on 10% of their bodies would not be calling the shots until they have substantially healed. Look up the “Rule of 9’s” and the predictive model of survival after substantial burns.

My point was that he was a larger-than-life figure, much like Josef Stalin, or today like Vladimir Putin. As long as he’s still alive, nobody would dare accept the top job, much less claim it. Also, in such situations, perception is reality, and the Iranian people too wouldn’t have believed that the regime is on its way out

It was funny seeing a brief video of Iranian tv with the Iranian news presenter choking back tears as he announced that khameini was dead. I had never seen something like that before. I suppose if he hadn’t shown some tears he’d be executed by the scum who run Iran.
