Gov. Newsom Threatens Arrest for Investigating Somali Daycare Fraud

Newsom’s position is that it’s fine to investigate fraud everywhere… except when Somali Muslims do it.

CBS News was just able to run an investigation of hospice fraud on the same familiar grounds, addresses with dozens of facilities and no physical presence, massive charges and no clients. Nick Shirley, who usually tags along after everyone else does the work, did his own viral video. And none of those people are being threatened with arrest.

The press account for Gov. Gavin Newsom however did threaten to arrest anyone investigating daycare fraud. “Pro-tip: Daycares aren’t content farms. If you show up demanding access to film children, don’t be surprised when the cops show up.”

Various state and local officials in California, Oregon and Minnesota had already been issuing such threats for a while. Earlier this month, California Attorney General Rob Bonta threatened to use ‘hate crime’ laws to protect Somali day cares.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Feb. 23, 2026, that hate crime resources are now available in the Somali language following reports that Somali childcare providers have been subjected to harassment, stalking and intimidation at their homes and workplaces.

Attorney General Bonta stated, “Reports that internet vigilantes are harassing San Diegan childcare providers at their homes and workplaces are extremely alarming. California has laws that prohibit this type of harassment. Last week, I denounced these deplorable acts, and today, I am happy to announce that hate crime resources are now available in the Somali language. I encourage all Californians and law enforcement agencies to know their rights and familiarize themselves with laws that protect individuals.”

“It is the job of the California Department of Justice to see that the laws of the State are uniformly and adequately enforced.”

Previously, Newsom had gone to San Diego to claim that Somalis were “under siege”.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the Somali community in San Diego feels “under siege” with the arrival of right-wing provocateurs who, seeking to replicate their fraud allegations that kicked off unrest in Minnesota, have arrived at Somali-run day cares, alarming child care workers.

Newsom said he met with Somali community members in San Diego on Monday before holding an unrelated press conference about fentanyl seizures at the U.S.-Mexico border. Newsom said those at the meeting feel like there is no accountability for the vigilante actors who rarely, if ever, identify themselves and confusion among operators about who to trust and what their rights are.

“They’re not fully convinced,” Newsom said, “that the state or local government is doing enough for them.”

“We need statewide leaders to stand up for the Somali community in San Diego — along with other immigrant communities across California — before we become another ground zero for ICE,” Ramla Sahid, the executive director of Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, said in a statement. “Every state leader who has spoken up in solidarity with Minneapolis must also speak up for our communities right here. Right-wing influencers who were active in Minnesota are already here in San Diego, harassing day care centers and other businesses run by Somali Americans.”

It’s fine to investigate fraud everywhere… except when Somali Muslims do it.

  2. I like that both Steve Hilton and Chad Bianco are at the top of the field in California, w/ every Dem trailing them. All those California Leftists who chuckled years ago about California elections being solely (D) contests will hopefully find that those aspirations will come to bite them in the hiney. Of course, whoever wins should also try and help the GOP get majorities in the state house & senate, so that the legislature can’t stymie him

    I’m also in favor of a future California DOJ probing into the corruption of Newsom, as well as any involvement he had w/ the Somali fraudsters

      I’m looking at the hope of a Republican Governor as an anchor point only.
      I hope a Republican Governor could make some positive changes but probably not. Stand firm and don’t be another Swartzen-Kennedy!
      As you said, he would be stymied by the legislature – but that would be the point. He would be there mainly to show that the grass roots, that is, the members of the legislature, have to be replaced in order to affect any real changes. Voters have to come to see you can’t vote for a Democrat, single party state and get Republican results. It would be a much welcomed start, hopefully, on California’s road back to America.

  3. With regard to Gavin Newsom, I am reminded here about what Gertrude Stein said about Oakland, CA, to wit, “There is no there there.”

    An emptier man than Newsom would be deuce difficult to find. It could be done but much effort would be required to do so. But here’s the worst part: Were this empty vessel the Democratic candidate for President in 2028 there are millions upon millions (including many illegals of course) who would vote for this doofus.

    Conclusion: Newsom is the symptom; the cause is the utter disaster which is the modern Democratic Party. Time for a beer.

    Their expectation of accommodation from their host nations is off the hook. So is their playing victim. They have had many opportunities over several decades to demonstrate that they bring value to our country, and they have shit on every one of them.

    • Why have them in San Diego? Move them to somewhere like Beverly Hills or Pacific Palasades, so that they can live either among the Hollywood elite or right next to Nancy Pelosi

  8. The state should be funding people to uncover fraud. The fact they are not strongly suggests they are complicit in the fraud.

  9. Governor Greasy said the quiet part out loud. Only “right wingers” are against the misappropriation and fraudulent use of taxpayer dollars. From my experience of doing a tech route in the state I found that California is the most segregated place I have even been. They got this group here, that group there, another group yonder. And never will the varying groups intermix. I got the impression the differing groups didn’t get along.

  13. There must be alot of democratic elected officials in many areas of California that where aware of this fraud in the areas they represent. I wonder how many of them have friends, relatives ,policial connected people to the democratic party that where in for a percentage of the take in this fraud to look the other way for years? How many of them have connections to the “nonprofits” that get involved with this work in empty child daycare “learing centers “? Why would the governor be so quick to have anyone looking too closely into open fraud at these centers ,all you need is a phone and a list of centers being paid by state funds to check them out .Who in the government is responsible to mentor and certify give license to run these centers? The crime according to the governor is not the wasted billions on fraud in the state of California every year the crime is showing it to the public ,exposing it ,questioning the elected officials about what they doing about it.
