AN MP who exposed a rapist asylum seeker has slammed a judge who ordered a jury not to be told about the fiend’s immigration status.
Sheraz Malik, 28, carried out the terrifying attack at a park in Sutton-in-Ashfield in Nottinghamshire as the victim shouted “no, no, no”.
It was yesterday reported that Malik is an asylum seeker who was born in Pakistan and lived in Italy, Germany and France before coming to the UK.
A reporting restriction was put in place in September last year preventing any mention of the Pakistani national’s immigration status until the trial had concluded.
Reform MP Lee Anderson, who first exposed Malik as an asylum seeker when he was arrested, has now slammed the decision to gag the press.
He said: “It’s obvious that the police and the whole judiciary were very reluctant to allow the public the true identity of this vile creature.
“The public deserves better which is why I exposed the truth.”
Mr Anderson claimed he had been asked not to publicise the case by police for fear of jeopardising the prosecution.
His posts triggered an anti-immigration protest in Sutton-in-Ashfield, with Malik’s trial later moved from Nottingham to Birmingham.
Judge Nirmal Shant imposed the restriction until the end of the case to avoid a “substantial risk of prejudice to the administration of justice”….
