Druze in southern Syria held a rally today demanding self-determination and independence from Sharaa’s Syria, whose constitution states that Sharia law is the main source of legislation and governance.

In the West, criticism of Sharia is de facto (and increasingly de jure) forbidden. To criticize Sharia would be “Islamophobic.” Even to oppose jihad violence is “Islamophobic” unless one pretends that the jihad violence has nothing to do with Islam properly understood, but is only a manifestation of “Islamism” or some other fiction. Those who have lived under Sharia, however, know better.

Good luck! If the Kurds couldn’t get much support, despite decades of supporting the US, fat chance the Druze have. Also, Israel already is running low on capital, thanks to the rise of antisemitism on the US Right, so they can’t ask for Syria to be partitioned even before the US agrees to recognize Judea & Samaria as a part of Israel
Their only hope is if a war breaks out b/w Israel and Syria, but al Shara’a seems to be too canny to let that happen, particularly when he’s just won US recognition, despite his own past

The Druze can count only on Israel, because Trump has been hornswoggled by Ahmed Al-Sharaa.I don’t think Israel will let them down if Al-Sharaa launches a major offensive. The IDF is already arming the Druze in the Golan, in case they should they enter Syria to help their fellow Druze , and also are supplying weapons to be transferred by the Israeli Druze to the Syrian Druze in Sweida governorate..
The Druze must surely be hoping for a new political arrangement, whereby those in Syria become semi-attached from Damascus, and their territory, centered on Sweida, would not be annexed by Israel, but could become a self-governing protectorate of the Jewish state.

We want America First but with integrity and benevolence to those who are downtrodden. The Kurds and Druze are truly worthy and our might should be on their side not the jihadists of Syria.

Deeper in the Shouf Mountains, official Beirut radio said Druze artillery was blasting the town of Deir el Kamar, which was jammed with at least 25,000 Christian refugees.
The report said the Druze militiamen had overrun positions on the hills surrounding the town, which is garrisoned by the pro-government Christian Phalange militia, and were hitting it with ‘fierce mortar shelling.’
Three artillery shells fired from positions in the mountains controlled by the Druze religious faction slammed into the Marine compound at the airport, shattering a pledge by Druze Militia leader Walid Jumblatt to halt attacks on the 4,800-man multipeacekeeping force.
In today’s fighting, Druze militiamen backed by Palestinian guerrillas with heavy artillery and Soviet-made T-54 tanks attacked the Lebanese army’s forward positions, the army said.
The army said its forces repulsed the Druze advance in the towns of Khald and Souk al Garb
Syria, along with Palestinian guerrillas, backs the Druze militias in their war against the Lebanese army and the pro-government Phalange-dominated Christian militia for control of the Shouf mountains east of Beirut.
