Syria Asks Germany Not to Send Back Its Citizens

Syria has just asked Germany not to deport Syrians back to Syria, claiming they would make Syria “too dangerous.” Apparently the Germans are supposed to endure that danger themselves. Syria has formally asked Germany for patience over the deportation of Syrian nationals, warning that the return of thousands could lead to insecurity in the country and worsen the country’s fragile humanitarian situation.

As reported by Welt, Mohammed Yaqub al-Omar, director of the consular department at the Syrian Foreign Ministry, urged Germany “to understand the Syrian refugees and give us more time for reconstruction.” He warned that “the return of thousands of Syrians to Syria at this time could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and mean that many people will have to live in refugee camps.”…

Syrians are supposed to be allowed to remain in Germany because Syria needs more time to supply suitable housing? But why should that be Germany’s problem? It already has spent billions of euros on those Syrians, and tens of billions on “asylum seekers” who arrived in Germany from other Muslim countries. Because of the vast sums spent on Muslim migrants, Germany has a hard time meeting the welfare needs of its own citizens, the poor and elderly. Now that Sunni supremacists rule in Damascus, can’t the Syrians ask their fellow Sunni Arabs, including the those in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, awash with trillions of euros in their sovereign wealth funds, to pay for the Syrians now being deported from Europe back to Syria? They should be the ones paying for the housing and humanitarian aid for Syrians being sent back to Syria, and not the Europeans, including the Germans, who have spent quite enough on Muslim economic migrants.

“Syria still needs time to create structures that allow for returns,” said Serdar Yüksel, SPD chairman of the German-Turkish Parliamentary Group. In many areas, he reported, there are “no schools, no hospitals, no running water, no sewage system.” In some places, there is “virtually no reconstruction” taking place, he added, without responding to the suggestion that perhaps Syrians themselves should be leading the reconstruction….

That reconstruction in Syria, including housing for Syrians now starting to be deported from Europe back to their own country, ought to be carried out by the Syrians themselves. The financing should come from the rich Arab states of the Gulf. The first Syrians sent back should be those with criminal records or those considered as possible security threats because of their jihadist beliefs. And if many Syrians are to remain outside of Syria while their housing is being built, why should they be allowed to remain in Germany, where their presence has been expensive, disruptive, and dangerous for the indigenous Germans? Doesn’t it make more sense for them to be taken in by Arab Gulf states that are in need of workers, ideally fellow Arabs who will have no language barriers nor have trouble fitting into their societies, while in Germany there was constant friction with their German hosts, who as non-Muslims are regarded by those Syrians as “the most vile of created beings”?

Alice Weidel, co-leader of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), slammed the request by the Syrian government, and suggested that a remigration policy for Syrians would already be in full force were her party in office….

Weidel’s party, the anti-Muslim-migrant Alternative for Germany, denounces the Syrian request that its nationals not be deported any time soon back to Syria, quite properly noting that the burden of their presence ought to be borne by their co-nationals, and not by those who have already spent so much, endured so much, because of their presence in Germany..

Voluntary deportation programs were launched in some German states last year, but resulted in extremely poor conversion[sic] rates. Despite financial incentives being offered at German taxpayers’ expense, just a fraction of those offered assistance to return home took up the offer.’’

Why would those economic migrants, overwhelmingly Muslim, choose to return to their home countries, when they can live so much better on the largesse lavished upon them by the generous welfare states of Western Europe? In Europe, they are provided with free or low-cost housing, free medical care, free education including language tuition, family allowances, spending money, and more. In their countries of origin, they must work to support themselves, and their wages do not come close to the value of the welfare benefits they have been receiving in Europe.

The AfD has a good chance of coming to power in the next presidential election, to be held at the beginning of 2027. It is already running ahead of the center-right CDU/CSU coalition in opinion polls. But before then, pressure from the populace should force Chancellor Friedrich Merz to reject the Syrian request, and to move swiftly to deport Syrians who, now that the civil war in Syria is over, have no need to continue to be treated as “asylum seekers.” They should be Syria’s problem; let Damascus deal with it, and let the rich Sunni Arab states finance the reconstruction of housing for the millions of Syrians who, not just from Germany but also from a half-dozen other European countries, will now be sent home.
