For the first time, the U.S. government discusses Sharia.
On Tuesday, February 10, I appeared before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government to testify about Sharia. I gave a five-minute statement and then took questions from various representatives. Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.), Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), Rep. Mark Harris (R-N.C.), Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-Wyo.), Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-Wis.), and Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Tex.) asked incisive and illuminating questions.
As you’d expect, Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.), and Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) were deliberately obfuscatory, constantly nattering on about a fictional “white Christian nationalism” (for which Grothman finally called them out), assuming in the teeth of the evidence that Sharia is purely private religious law, and likening it more than once to Project 2025 as they attempted to shift the focus to the alleged misdeeds of the Trump administration in enforcing immigration law.
At one point I referred to the success that Muslim Brotherhood operatives have had in getting U.S. non-Muslims to do their bidding and make them think they were righteous in doing so; of course I meant Raskin, Scanlon, and Cohen.
Despite their efforts, this was a historic hearing. Right after 9/11, George W. Bush proclaimed that Islam was peace. There was some discussion within government agencies of the motivating ideology behind jihad violence, but there was always resistance to that discussion as well. the Obama administration removed all mention of Islam from counterterror training in order to appease Muslim Brotherhood elements in the government and in foreign countries, and there the situation has remained ever since. Now, to have a discussion of Sharia on Capitol Hill represents a significant breakthrough.
Here is my five-minute statement as prepared. When I read it there were very slight differences.

February 10, 2026The US constitution and Sharia are incompatible, and the conflict between the two legal systems will grow as Sharia adherents increase in number in the West. This fact has been obscured by misinformation about what Sharia is. When the city of Keller, Texas scrapped an anti-Sharia resolution in January 2026, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, CAIR, stated that “like canon law for Catholics and halacha for Orthodox Jews, sharia refers to the rules that Muslims follow, including praying five times a day, fasting in Ramadan, giving in charity, and following the laws of the land in which they live.”
If that were really all that Sharia was about, no reasonable person would have any problem with it. CAIR doesn’t mention, however, that Sharia is inherently political, supremacist, expansionist, and violent. Far from being the “Islamophobic conspiracy theories” of CAIR’s imagining, these are facts that Muslim authorities on Sharia openly attest.
Reliance of the Traveller, or Umdat al-Salik, is a classic manual of Islamic sacred law, that is, Sharia. In 1990, Dr. Taha Jabir al-Alwani, President of the International Institute of Islamic Thought and president of the Fiqh Council of North America, stated that this Sharia manual was useful as “a textbook for teaching Islamic jurisprudence… or as a legal reference for use by scholars, educated laymen, and students.”
The most prestigious institution of Islamic learning in the world, al-Azhar in Cairo, stated in 1991 that the same manual of Sharia “conforms to the practice and faith of the orthodox Sunni Community.”
We read in this guide to Sharia that “Jihad means to war against non-Muslims,” and that jihad is a communal obligation upon the Muslim community. When a Muslim land is attacked, even in defense against its aggression, it becomes personally obligatory upon every Muslim. The object of this war is to establish the hegemony of Sharia over the conquered land. For non-Muslims, this means an institutionalized, highly codified second-class status that denies them basic rights.
Non-Muslims living under Sharia must “pay the non-Muslim poll tax (jizya)” that is specified in the Qur’an. This religion-based tax is designed to indicate, as the renowned Islamic scholar Ibn Kathir explained, that the non-Muslims who are paying it are “disgraced, humiliated and belittled.”
The non-Muslims in this state of disgrace and humiliation are not allowed to build new houses of worship or repair old ones, so their communities are in a perpetual state of decline. They are forbidden to make any public display of their religion. They are relegated to the most menial jobs in society, for they are forbidden to hold authority over Muslims. If they say anything critical about Islam, Muhammad, or the Qur’an, they are liable to be put to death.
From all this it is clear that Sharia is not simply Muslim personal religious law. On the contrary, Sharia law-based legal and civic institutions are contrary to America’s founding principles and may violate federal law and the Constitution.
The death penalty for mentioning what Reliance of the Traveller terms “something impermissible about Allah, the Prophet, or Islam,” that is, blasphemy, is directly at variance with First Amendment protections of the freedom of speech. The Islamic imperative to establish the hegemony of Sharia as the law of the land, as it is today in the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, and elsewhere, is at variance with the First Amendment principle that the United States will not have an established religion.
Even in its personal aspects, Sharia contradicts U.S. law. The Qur’an states that a man should “beat” a woman from whom “he fears disobedience.” Domestic violence is a crime in U.S. law, but it is not a crime under Sharia. Britain began establishing Sharia courts several years ago, with the understanding that cases that came under the purview of British criminal law would be referred to the British courts. Instead, the Muslim Arbitration Tribunal on its website urged the Crown Prosecution Service to “reconsider” bringing criminal charges brought against Muslim men who had been accused of domestic violence.
This was no aberration. As Sharia is considered divine law, those Muslims who adhere to it consider it always to take precedence over the laws of the land.
Moreover, emigration to a new land to bring Sharia to it is also an Islamic imperative. The Qur’an promises a reward from Allah to those who “emigrate for the sake of Allah,” which means for the purpose of bringing Sharia to a non-Muslim land. Thus the conflict between Sharia and the U.S. Constitution will only grow as the Muslim population in the U.S. grows, for among that population will always be some Muslims who take these imperatives with the utmost seriousness.

Good as that hearing was, it would have been good had that statement of President Bush been dissected and laid bare. Not that it would have won over the Dems in the committee, who today are in love w/ the Bushes. But since the GOP is no longer afraid of disowning Bush, thanks to Trump providing a powerful alternative, this aspect of him too should be laid out and disowned. So that support in the party to include their outreach activity for muslims tanks, and that the party head honchos are forced to look elsewhere – Jews, Hindus, and other non muslim ethnicities – Blacks, Hispanics, Asians (including Iranians)
I do hope that these things are discussed more in depth b/w Robert, Daniel Greenfield, Frank Gaffney and others. Maybe not in congressional hearings, where time is more limited and the hearings are subject to filibuster, but in other meetings that can be arranged to discuss all this. As Robert notes, it’s good that there is a discussion on sharia on Capitol Hill, but that’s just a first step

It would be fascinating to hear how Robert Spencer would have addressed the nation after 9/11.
I’m not American,but I think I would have said something like
” My fellow Americans, we are at war. Not because we have deliberately provoked war. But because devout followers of an ideology that has existed for nearly 1400 years perceive us as their enemy. They see us as an impediment to their long standing ambitions to make the entire world Islamic under a Caliph.
In accordance with their holy book, the Qur’an, they intend to wage a type of ruthless holy war, they call Jihad, against anyone who, in their eyes, is unwilling to submit to the will of Allah, and become a Muslim.
They intend to wage Jihad in perpetuity until all religion is for Allah, and everyone is a Muslim. In so doing, they intend to target anyone who is not a Muslim, as devout as they are. They will target not just atheists, Christians of all denominations, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoastrians, and other non-Muslim faiths, they will also target any Muslims they perceive are cooperating and collaborating with us by virtue of either not joining their Jihad against us, or by virtue of not holding the same interpretation of Islam as them.
It doesn’t matter that you have done them no harm, or don’t intend to do them harm: in their eyes, it only matters that you have not submitted to the will of Allah and become one who has submitted, a Muslim.
These literalist Muslims view other forms of Islam as abhorrent and heretical. These Muslims believe in a fundamental version of Sunni Islam, and are just as likely to attack Shite Muslims, or cultural, non-devout Muslims, as they are likely to attack us. They call us all infidels. The non devout Muslims they call Takfiris.
This is not to say that devout Shite Muslims, such as found in Iran or their proxy terrorist groups, don’t also want to kill us. But the Sunni Muslims who attacked us on 911 didn’t care if they attacked Christians, or Muslims collaborating with Christians. They didn’t consider any of the victims they killed on 911 to be innocent victims. They just considered that the people they killed weren’t as devout a Muslim as they narcissistically perceived themselves to be.
The 911 attackers didn’t really care who they killed on that terrible day. They either killed infidels who weren’t Muslims, or Takfiri Muslims, who dared associate with Infidels and couldn’t be true Muslims.
So what do we do now?
We first bury our dead, and grieve along with the family and friends of those who died in this senseless, unprovoked attack.
Then we gird our loins and prepare to meet this global Jihad threat in every region and country it exists in the same spirit that Charles Martel did at the Battle of Tours in 732AD, when Muslims tried to invade France, or in the example of the Crusaders responding to 400 years of Islamic raids, invasions, kidnappings and attacks on Europe, or in the example of the defenders of Malta in 1565, or many other examples throughout history. Like the great alliances needed to fight against the threat of Islam in the past, such as at Lepanto in 1571 or Vienna in 1683, we will need our allies to stand with us to ensure victory.
I call upon all those who are our friends, and all those who agree with the principles outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to join with us to fight back against this scourge.
To all the nations of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (nb that was its name in 2001 but since 2011 it’s called the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation) that they have a choice to make – either you renounce the Jihadis who attacked us on 911, or we consider you no less an enemy. We will not hestitate to use every last aspect of our mighty military, economic and political power to destroy you, your leaders, your clerics, your mosques and your countries.
If you oppose us, or even impede us, will will treat you as the Romans treated Carthage. History will not remember your name.
You can demonstrate your good faith by immediately renouncing the Cairo Declaration on Human Rights in Islam and agreeing to the Universal Declaration to Human Rights. Failure to do so will reveal to us on whose side you are on.
To the individual Muslims living in these United State of America, we expect you to renounce these attackers and to help us fight them. You also have a choice to make.
We well understand that Islam is not a Religion of Peace. It is a religion of violence, and illiberalism and intolerance. And we will tolerate it’s violence and illiberalism no more.”
I just dashed that off the top of my head and would probably refine it with more time to consider. But thematically, that’s broadly what I would have said if I were President George W. Bush after 911.
Critics may suggest such language would have resulted in a rapid global war. But in 2026 we’re now in a slow burn global war, with no end in sight. And still no universal agreement amongst our political leadership about the ideology we’re up against.

Of course the Dems at the hearing will disregard everything you said, but Republicans, independents, and spectators who heard these words couldn’t help but to have been truly un-nerved by them. Obama once banned you from teaching federal agencies about the true nature of Islam, but you have outlasted the former President….and you finally had your say in the halls of Congress.

The message is that Robert Spencer is right on the mark when he spoke before the US Congress ,when he revealed information concerning the truth of the incomparably of Sharia and the US Constitution. this is something that the American public needs to know about.
Likewise., Americans should be aware of those stealth jihad- minded Muslims who are living in the United States ,and attempt to have Sharia law enacted in this country. Those facts that this is the United States, and has something that is far better than Sharia law. It’s the US Constitution. This is America, not Saudi Arabia or Iran.

I believe it was far more than that. I believe, and have all along, that he didn’t want the discussion because he is muzzie.
At least once, bo said he had been to *all 57 States.* There are not “57 States” but there are that many muzzie nations. Facts show bo had been to pakistan before he ran for president in this country. He was a kid in indonesia. Perhaps he had been to all of the others.

Robert Spencer should reach out to Pauline Hanson of Australia’s One Nation Party and offer to come to Australia to provide a similar public testimony as he gave to the US Congress House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government.
The Left Wing Australian Labor Party (ALP), who are the ruling Federal government at the moment, may be disinclined to give Robert a visa. But it’s worth trying.
Pauline is currently getting beaten up by the Leftist-sympathetic Australian media for making the public state that there are no good Muslims. So Robert’s expertise on Islam would be highly informative to public opinion in Australia.
Personally, I think Al Qaeda and ISIS et al are “good Muslims”, in so far as they are following Sharia to the letter, which therefore makes them bad people.
Any Muslim who hasn’t renounced the Qur’an is arguably a “good Muslim”, but, given the evil nature of Islam, is therefore a bad person, and incompatible with Western Liberal Democratic values founded upon Judeo-Christian norms.

Robert could provide clarity in Australia in a way many others could not.
Once a base of Counter-Jihadism has been established in Australia, additional engagement can be made with other similar activists from the Indo-Pacific and Europe.

Melbourne 7 ~ 10 March 2014. But his visa would have been issued by the then ruling Right of Centre Liberal Party.
Don’t know if the current Left of Centre ruling government, the Australian Labor Party, would be similarly inclined to issue another visa to Robert Spencer.
Geert Wilders was previously allowed to visit Australia, but Tommy Robinson was banned.

The Migration Invasion of Islam marches on with the help of many of our political leaders, educators and business leaders. Calling Islam a religion is one thing, calling it a religion of peace is totally WRONG. If we in America want to keep the freedoms we have Islam and Sharia Law must be banned and removed.
