I’m going to bet that he had “mental health treatment” and it didn’t keep him from trying to stab a police officer.

Perhaps he will be in the hospital with a stab wound, and his attacker will not be there because he was not nabbed nor wounded by the police.

Mandamni’s actions are shameful! And Daniel Greenfield is correct that the stabber most likely previously had mental health treatment. But a vast majority of these mental health patients relapse because they do not take their antipsychotic medication, and many become violent. When a psychotic individual is threatening others so that the police need to be called, this has already escalated beyond social worker intervention. And this clown of a mayor has police derangement syndrome, and that makes it ok in his mind to take the side of the mentally ill criminal over his city’s police.

I am a police training manager and personally instruct courses such as Crisis Intervention. The issue of police officers responding to mental health crises is part of the discussion including replacing police officers with emergency medical services personnel and/or professional mental health workers and counselors. In this case, as in many similar cases the consensus is there would be many dead paramedics and mental health workers if the police did not respond.
On another note, either the responding officer was a bad shot, or he violated policy and protocol as most police officer are trained to mitigate this sort of threat by firing at the center mass of the offender’s body. By not doing so, he may have put the civilian female’s life or one of the other responding officers’ lives in jeopardy,
