Italy: Muslims demand that plastic pig be removed from deli shop window

The principle is always and everywhere the same: in Muslim countries, non-Muslims are expected to conform their behavior to Islamic sensibilities. And in non-Muslim countries, non-Muslims are expected to conform their behavior to Islamic sensibilities.

A plastic pig displayed in the window of a newly opened delicatessen on the Piazza dei Signori in the Italian city of Padua has triggered a local controversy after a senior representative of the city’s Muslim community called for its removal, arguing that it is offensive and inappropriate.

The pig, placed in the window of the deli Mortadella… e Non Solo, is used to advertise the shop’s sandwiches and cured meats, which are primarily made from pork. According to Il Giornale, Salim El Mauoed, the regional vice president of Padua’s Muslim community, urged both the shop’s owners and local authorities to intervene, describing the display as “in bad taste” and offensive to Muslims who pass through the area.

There is no legal basis requiring the business to remove the display. The pig imagery is a central part of the shop’s branding and appears not only in the window but also in its logo, promotional materials, and merchandise shared publicly on social media….

Il Giornale reports that some members of the local Muslim community believe symbols seen as contrary to Islamic religious precepts should be avoided in shared urban spaces. Others, however, have warned that removing a legal and commonplace commercial symbol risks establishing a precedent in which religious objections could reshape long-established customs and everyday practices.

The newspaper also notes that the deli employs Muslim staff, some of whom have publicly defended the display, saying the plastic pig simply reflects the nature of the business and is not intended to offend anyone.

The pig remains on display for now.

  3. Muslims are forbidden to eat pork. They learned that from Jews who are forbidden to eat pork. But Jews do not demand that pictures of or statutes of pigs be removed from windows or any public visual appearence of a pig be removed in those nations that are pork eaters. Only Muslims do. That is due to their fascist ideology and not their religion. “We demand that you conform to our rules and our beliefs” is political fascism and not a religious view. The Jewish religion was the first to ban the eating of pork thousands of years before Islam. Yet Jews do not demand anyone not Jewish follow Jewish religious practices. Only Islam does that. It tells you a lot of how Muslims view the non Muslim world.

    As with other Delis in many nations, hang some of your smoked pork products (like sausages) in the window.

    There have been numerous instances of Muslim drivers in kufar nations not wanting to carry dogs in their taxis with their fellow Muslim grocery store clerks not wanting to handle packaged pork products or sell alcoholic beverages, etc.

    Don’t know for sure, but I believe those protests all failed.

    • I recall the late Rush Limbaugh covering that in the Limbaugh letter, which I used to subscribe to at the time. In his commentary on it, he mentioned that it reflected a tolerance for everybody, except…. Piglet!

  10. Imagine the nerve of a people immigrating to a new country and then demanding that same country that kindly took them in to change their symbols and culture because a it offends them! This is what’s happening all over the West and the politicians don’t do anything about it!
