The exiled son of Iran’s last shah said he was ready to lead the country to a “secular democratic future” at a rally in Munich on Saturday, after US President Donald Trump said a change of power would be the “best thing”….
US-based Reza Pahlavi, who has not returned to Iran since before the 1979 Islamic revolution that ousted the monarchy, told the crowd of around 200,000 people of his supporters that he could lead a transition.
The crown prince has assured everyone that he will not be an absolute ruler like his father, but only a constitutional monarch, on the British model, more of a figurehead to serve his countrymen as a unifying symbol. And if the Iranians were to decide that they don’t want him to be that unifying symbol once a new, democratic regime is installed, he is clearly perfectly happy to step down.
Pahlavi has urged Iranians at home and abroad to continue demonstrations against the authorities, calling on them to chant slogans from their homes and rooftops at 8:00 pm (1630 GMT) Saturday and Sunday {Feb.14 and 15], to coincide with protests in Germany and elsewhere.
Chanting anti-regime slogans from their homes and rooftops will keep those protesters alive and still able to express, by chanting from on high, their hatred of the regime.
Trump had said on Friday that a change of government in Iran would be the “best thing that could happen”, as he sent a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East to ratchet up military pressure on Tehran.
And 200,000 people echoed that sentiment in Munich on February 13. Did the voices from that mighty chorus reach Trump’s ear and strengthen his resolve to give the Iranians “the best thing that could happen” to them — that is, the overthrow of the regime that has been tormenting them for 47 years?
According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, at least 7,008 people, mostly protesters, were killed in the crackdown, though they and other rights groups warn the toll is likely far higher.

The latest figures on casualties compiled by Iranian exiles from their contacts inside Iran give a figure of 36,500 protesters killed, and more than 300,000 wounded.
The 200,000 people, almost all of them Iranians in exile, showed the strength of the anti-regime forces. In total, across Europe and North America, a total of almost two million people have shown up to demonstrate against the supreme leader. The crown prince was responsible for calling the protest.

The latest figure is that not “200,000,” but 250,000 people, attended the rally in Munich. In addition, 350,000 attended the rally in Los Angeles, and another 350,000 in Toronto, with smaller amounts in New York, Washington, and around the Western world. At least 1.4 million people came out to protest against the regime ini Teheran.

While these developments are good in the sense that they demonstrate support for the Iranian people from the “international community”, they’re relatively irrelevant on what goes on within Iran itself. Last few days, there have been more reports of killings of Iranians in various places in the country – Abdanan, Isfahan, Sanandaj, Dehloran, Karaj, Kerman and many more. It’s not going to stop until either US or Israel intervene and start liquidating the IRGC and Basij at least in major locations within that country

Yeah, there have been huge rallies in support of him in a lot of Western cities, not just in Munich. One of the only upsides of the delayed US reaction has been to get even Western Leftists start noticing the persecution of normal Iranians in Iran, and start speaking out for them, since they can no longer be ignored. Normally, had the US been quick to support the Iranians, those same people would have turned a blind eye, but given this situation, they’re, for whatever reason, paying attention

Most Iranians already seem to have concluded that. Although one thing I’ve noticed – there is a new friction within them on whether islam should at all be tolerated at any level. Yesterday, I was watching Goldie Ghamari display a muslim supporter of the Shah, and other pictures of muslimahs in chadors who supported the Shah in 1979. She used the same tired old cliche about being against islam but not against muslims – something that tanks anyone’s credibility in my book. According to her, any muslim who supports Reza Pahlavi is a good muslim. Only problem: in the long run, it leaves Iran vulnerable to re-islamizing again like 1979
I’m glad that there are Iranians who have coined this slogan, “No true Iranian is muslim, and no true muslim is Iranian”. Yeah, it sounds fine and dandy to let someone who just wants to follow the 5 pillars to do it. But muslims are like radioactive material: if they cross a certain critical mass, they go boom! Right now, islam looks like it’s shrinking, and in a future Iran, it should be completely outlawed

A rally is wonderful but it is not helping them take their country back as he cheers them on from a safe country. He should be finding a way to arm them, to they can take back their country. He claims he has been in touch with people in the military since 1980’s who also don’t like the leadership. At the very least, he should be on speed dial with them helping to organize a take over. Beyond that it is empty bluster. The U.S. can’t fight everyone’s wars.

No, I quite agree w/ you. If the Iranians have all that energy to chant slogans, they should use their intelligence a bit and try raiding the arms depots of the IRGC, or try infiltrating it. That way, they could at least topple IRGC control in some cities, if not all. But simply doing rallies and shouting slogans is getting them absolutely nowhere!
