Oh dear. That most corrupt and corrupting of international organizations, the United Nations, is on its uppers. The sums that used to be provided by its largest contributor, the United States, have been cut by many billions, for Washington has rightly identified the UN as an endless fount of anti-Israel propaganda and, in its malignant misrepresentation of the Jewish state, a relentless disseminator of antisemitism. And many other countries, including China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Venezuela, for reasons having nothing to do with Israel, are also in arrears in their assessed payments to the UN.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres bemoans this state of affairs, and hopes to shame the U.S., as the country that has withheld the most from its mandatory assessment, and that has slashed by many billions its voluntary contributions as well, to pay its assessed amount and restore its generous voluntary payments, that at their highest point, in 2022, were more than $15 billion, but this year will be $2 billion. The Americans won’t budge from their new, greatly decreased, contributions to the UN, not as long as Donald Trump is President and Marco Rubio is Secretary of State. More on Guterres’ public lament about the UN’s sorry financial state can be found here: “UN Chief Guterres warns of UN’s ‘imminent financial collapse,’ cites unpaid fees,” Jerusalem Post, January 30, 2026:
The UN chief has told member states that the organization is at risk of “imminent financial collapse,” citing unpaid fees and a budget rule that forces the global body to return unspent money, a letter seen by Reuters on Friday showed.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has repeatedly spoken about the organization’s worsening liquidity crisis, but this is his starkest warning yet, and it comes as its main contributor, the United States, is retreating from multilateralism on numerous fronts.
“The crisis is deepening, threatening program delivery and risking financial collapse. And the situation will deteriorate further in the near future,” Guterres wrote in a letter to ambassadors dated January 28.
The US has slashed voluntary funding to UN agencies and refused to make mandatory payments to its regular and peacekeeping budgets.
US President Donald Trump has described the UN as having “great potential” but said it is not fulfilling that, and he has launched a Board of Peace, which some fear could undermine the older international body.
The UN doesn’t any longer have “great potential.” It had great potential once, in the immediate post-World War II years, and for the first twenty years of its existence, from 1945 to 1965, it performed some useful work, especially through UNESCO, in the spheres of culture and education. But then both the Communist bloc, and the Muslim bloc of members became ever more vocal at the UN, turning it into an instrument of their anti-Western campaigns. The Communist bloc has disappeared, but the Muslim bloc of 57 nations has managed to make the putative sins of the Jewish state the main order of business at the General Assembly, which has passed more resolutions denouncing Israel than those denouncing all the other 192 member nations put together. Once the UN was led by the advanced countries of the West; now it is the Third World countries, and especially the Muslim lands, that have extended their power in capillary fashion throughout the UN and its constitutive agencies.
Founded in 1945, the UN has 193 member states and works to maintain international peace and security, promote human rights, foster social and economic development, and coordinate humanitarian aid.
That’s what the U.N. says it does. Many of us know it long ago stopped promoting human rights and instead uses the issue of “human rights” to promote an anti-Western and, especially, an anti-Israel agenda. It does not so much “foster social and economic development” as it works to inveigle the Western countries into contributing large sums to the care and feeding of Third World basket cases. It is in the corridors of the UN that the insidious cries for “reparations” from the West to the Third World have begun to be heard.
It is the U.S. that, in Guterres’ view, is the most in arrears. The U.S. owes the UN roughly $1.5 billion for the regular budget and an additional $1.5 to $2.4 billion for peacekeeping, totaling potentially over $4 billion in arrears as of early 2026.
The U.S. is using the power of the purse, or more exactly, the power of withholding the purse, to pressure the UN to stop its malignant obsession with Israel. So far it hasn’t worked, but according to Guterres’ latest warning, the UN is in danger of a “financial collapse.” We will soon see if the UN can end its obsession with Israel, in order to persuade Washington to pay both its arrears and to restore formerly large voluntary contributions to UN agencies.
I don’t think the UN will be able to change; its anti-Israel animus is too pronounced, and of such long duration, for the UN to regain its moral balance. So let the UN quietly decline in power and influence, and let’s try something new: a league of like-minded countries, mainly in Europe, North America, and South America. That appears to be what Trump has in mind with his Board of Peace, that he sees as a replacement for the UN.
The obsession with Israel, that has triggered the American cuts in both its mandated and in its voluntary contributions, is only one of the reasons that the UN is in financial trouble. The scandalous spending at the UN must stop. The thousands of members of its vast bureaucracy are known to travel around the world first-class, and stay in five-star hotels. They are paid extravagant salaries, far more than people at the same level in the private sector. Antonio Guterres himself is paid more than President Trump. And the UN bureaucracy is bloated: the Secretariat alone has a staff of 40,000 worldwide. When we include all the affiliated agencies, funds, and programs (such as UNICEF and WHO), the total number of personnel working within the broader UN system is 116,000. That staff should over the next two-three years be reduced by two-thirds. Furthermore, the UN staff should travel not in first, but in tourist class, and stay not in five-star hotels, but in mid-range hotels. The UN’s huge staff has gotten used to a level of luxury that is infuriating. Let its bureaucrats be brought down to earth, to live like the rest of us.
Only thus — by ending its anti-Israel obsession and slashing expenses — will the UN have a chance to avoid the “financial collapse” that Guterres has just predicted.

Let’s look at the UN peacekeepers on the Lebanese Israeli border. They just sit there doing nothing, watching Hezbollah build tunnels, and bring in thousands of rockets to fire at Israel. Of course, when Israel fought back, they complained that Israel was violating the ceasefire deal.
That’s one group of UN peacekeepers that can be sent home and probably save millions of dollars.

Then, now is the time for the US to pull out of the UN to push it to complete financial collapse.

Given what I saw of Manhattan a few weeks ago when I visited, I suggest converting it into a giant multi-level parking lot as high as the original UN building
Patton says
The UM has been a worthless pile of crap for decades. With “diplomatic” immunity they feel free to park their cars anywhere in Midtown Manhattan they choose. I have seen their cars (with the diplo plates) parked right in front of fire hydrants. They are spending their host countries’ (and Lord knows whoever else’s influence always being available to the highest bidder of the moment) often scarce resources living it up in restaurants, bars and clubs all over the city. F-them (in particular the always loud and rude scum from the third (often Is-slum-ack) world. If US taxpayer dollar s were cut from $15MM to $2.5M, that is $2.5m too much. USA out of the UN and UN out of the USA! NOW!!!

Lets not forget that before WWII the distinct and individual countries of Europe were multi-cultural with each country having their own culture within their borders. And then the nazis rolled in. Today we have the multi-cultural crap going on within the borders of distinct and individual countries. And now the muslims are rolling in. The UN has presided over this without a care in the world. The UN should change their charter to include, lets start another world war but this time lets have fighting among the people within each distinct and individual country! Oh what fun that will be!

We actually don’t need multilateral organizations where every country in the world is a member. Smaller regional groupings are more appropriate, such as OAS, OAU, EU (w/o the mega-government), ASEAN and so on
gravenimage says
Agreed, Infidel. The basic problem is that most nations in the world are unfree, so unfree nations will always have the edge in any such body. Those founding the League of Nations and the UN hoped that civilized nations could influence unfree countries–but the opposite is more likely to happen. We should not fund this suicidal foolishness.

Guterres Warns the UN Is in Danger of ‘Financial Collapse’
…………………………………………………
Isn’t the whole world supposedly eagerly supporting the UN? Why keep shaking down the US?
We are regularly condemned by a body that has such members as Pakistan, Vietnam, Qatar, and Kuwait on its Human Rights Council.
Isabella van der westhuizen says
Those two great men Jan Smuts and Winston Churchill set up the UN. They never in their wildest fantasies envisaged that countries like The Gambia and Burundi would have sets on this body the same way real countries like France and Canada do. Sadly for the idealists it is clear that not every one and his dog has a valid or useful opinion. So allowing the entire Muslim world or the failed countries of Africa to be able to sound off is actually counter productive. Time for the adults in the room to take charge
Andrew Blackadder says
Some good news at last… Let it collapse as it is not what it used to be or what it was set up to be.
They can go and open up in Geneva as they still have an Office in that neutral of neutral countries.
The UN Building in Manhattan will sell out its brand new Condos in a New York Minute once the refurbishing inside is complete.
That prick in charge is in fear of losing his high paid gig where he denigrates wee tiny Israel very chance he gets.. Close it down, kick them ALL out of America and they can fly to Geneva on their Private Jets while screaming about climate shit.

If they have money that is unspent… They have more money than they need. How can they be in financial ruin?
Also we the people were never asked our permission by politicians to surrender our sovereignty of our country for a globalist government.
The left cries democracy all the time. Where was the vote by ” we the people” to join a UN? The same left crying democracy instead decided by themselves to agree to this abomination and use government to force it on our nation. Proving they are not for democracy.
Past time for USA to withdraw from UN and kick UN out of USA. And for USA to withdraw from NATO also. Both have used USA financially and militarily to benefit them at the expense of America.

If it is actually allowed to “collapse” will the scummy dross foreigners who work supporting terrorism there, go home?
Stacy says
Originally founded to prevent wars… It never did. The UN expanded into things like education and health and others.
It’s “education” is globalist brainwashing. Destroying nations independence and sovereignty.
Every “Secretary general” has been a socialist. Look it up. It has always been a communist front
For decades only Communist leaders would fill the UN’s highest military post, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Security Council Affairs. Fourteen of the fifteen men who held this vital post up until 1995 (and probably into the new century [2]) represented the USSR. The one exception was Dragoslav Protitich, a Communist from Yugoslavia. So when American soldiers fought Communism in Korea and Vietnam in partnership with the UN, the top UN military leaders were Communists. No wonder American soldiers fought two futile and deadly wars.
In 1972, Dr. Chester M. Pierce, MD, of Harvard University wrote an article entitled “Becoming Planetary Citizens: A Quest for Meaning” that appeared in the November issue of Childhood Education. He was concerned that children, by the age of five, “already have a lot of political attitudes”, among which were “a tenacious loyalty to his country and its leader.” What he wanted was a child who entered kindergarten “with the same kind of loyalty to the earth as to his homeland…”
This is a formula for degrading patriotism and loyalty to everything for which this nation stands in favor of creating citizens of the “global government” being pursued by the United Nations and the environmentalism that preaches against the use of the earth’s natural resources.
Lenny Leaps In says
They have made western countries sign up to their ‘UN Refugee Conventions” that have ruined many towns and even cities of our countries with mass migration from the Muslim and African worlds.
Why should the US pay? They have become the UN’s world policeman and have spent $2 trillion alone of US taxpayer’s money on fixing Afghanistan. Remember when the UN begged the US to get rid of ISIS who murderously conquered northern Iraq and Syria about 7 years ago? Only US firepower achieved this. No – the US should not pay any more $$ to the UN as they have already spent trillions of their own money fixing up the world.
basi says
When that becomes realoity the world can breathe free. They are just parasites running crooked programs
