Gulf countries slam Iran’s attack on US targets on their soil

As Iran launches strikes against American targets across the region, its strategy is backfiring. Saudi Arabia says it will join the U.S. in operations against the Islamic Republic. And other Gulf states are in a fury, as explosions have been heard in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. These countries have confirmed that they have intercepted Iranian missiles. Each of these countries are home to a U.S. base. Gulf states are now closing their airspace to Iran. According to Bloomberg, the move is already having an international impact as “the majority of international airlines have canceled flights to the Gulf and carriers in India have also cut back their services.”

Also:

Emirates, the world’s largest international airline, suspended all flight operations to and from Dubai, citing “multiple regional airspace closures.” The Qatari civil aviation authority said that the airspace over the country has been temporarily closed, effectively halting operations of Qatar Airways, among the biggest international carriers.

This could have significant longterm significance, as the strikes have begun to divide further the chief Shia state, Iran, from the Sunni states, causing a new upheaval in their relations despite recent declarations of unity over the Palestinian “resistance.”

Explosions were reported across parts of the Persian Gulf on Saturday after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards launched multiple waves of regional attacks, prompting several countries to activate air defense systems.

Air raid sirens sounded in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain in the early hours, news agencies reported.

Iran’s Guards said they had begun an operation dubbed “True Promise 4.”

In Qatar, a government official told Agence France-Presse that air defenses intercepted an Iranian missile, adding that US-made Patriot systems destroyed the projectile.

Qatar hosts the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest US military installation in the region. Qatar’s Interior Ministry later said the attack caused no damage.

Bahrain said a facility linked to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet had been targeted in a missile attack, according to a statement carried by the country’s national communications center, without giving further details.

Kuwait’s military said it had dealt with missiles in its airspace, state news agency KUNA reported.

Jordan’s military said it had shot down two ballistic missiles targeting the country.

Residents in Abu Dhabi told AFP they heard loud explosions, and the UAE state news agency said one person was killed after Emirati forces intercepted Iranian missiles.

The UAE condemned the attack as a “flagrant violation” of its sovereignty and international law and said it reserved the right to respond….

  1. He’s lost me today. i’ve tried and tired to not listen to the so called propaganda but it’s all true. Not one american i know wanted this not one. We have been lied to about iran since 1996 no one can expect us to believe it now. He really is owned lock stock and barrel.

    i get israel wanted this and i have no problems with that at all. but they can do it themselves and if they can’t then well to bad. but to drag america into this when our country is literally dying is disgustingly evil. He will go down as a traitor a liar and a pedho. the only people in america who still support trump are paid shills, and it’s obvious who they are. He lost the rest of us the america first people he had today. now he only has the elites and shills.

    I’m stunned at how out of touch and war hungry a lot people truly are. people i don’t know were evil truly are. this whole iran thing was truly eye opening for me. that’s not good for israel because ive been one of their strongest supporters to date and thats over now. there are many many like me. good luck with that.

    • I would have been fine w/ US remaining neutral had he not said anything. In that aspect, people ding Obama and Biden, but at least, they didn’t send Iranians any false signals that “help is on the way”. But this man did, and Iranians, believing him, engaged in demonstrations that has seen tens of thousands of them get massacred. For that reason, I do think that this operation was necessary. As it is, Iranians both within and outside Iran are cheering, so that should tell us a story

      That said, I agree w/ you that Israel alone could have pulled it off, had we not tied their hands last year. In fact, they could have worked w/ the Pahlavi team in getting the IRGC completely destroyed and then helping them take over. I do doubt that our narcissist in chief could have lived that down

      As far as we go, yeah, it would be nice if we had the same sort of job growth like in 2017, but this has been one of the worst job markets as companies try to figure out how much of automation and AI they need, and where. I don’t think either Trumponomics or Reaganomics or Obamanomics would have made a difference, since this is uncharted territory

      With respect specifically to military operations, Israel, as good as it is, simply does not have some of the capabilities we do. Our bombing of Iran’s nuclear sites back in June could only have been done by America. Ditto I highly suspect now for certain operations.

      And for the record, I’m with Trump here and if this horrible Iranian regime falls it will almost certainly prove to be a positive for the Middle East and for humanity in general. I take it I have been crystal clear where I stand here.

        I have issues with Trump yet on this I fully agree after watching the Iranian generation to which I gave instruction in Physics, before the1979 “revolution”, be sent to die for a rotten regime. Most were smart with infectious humor and respect for unbelievers. Persian youth were the bright lights of the ME before 1979, and didn’t literally wear their religion, easily passing for Americans.

As I have said before if one leaves aside Pol Pot the evil theocracy in Iran is the closest thing to Nazi Germany since the end of WW2. After all the things they have done not only in support of terroism in the ME. their collusion with Russia but also their savage and brutal treatment of their own citizens should have made them a pariah nation. No freedom loving nation should have been having any dealings with them
        I hope things turn out well for the people of Iran. What a sea change it will be to have a democratic country in the heart of the ME>

    • Iranian sponsored terror reached the whole world, more so in the Middle East, but also in Europe, South America, and yes, the United States. Also, their constant threats on oil traffic through the Straight of Hormuz repeatedly shakes petroleum markets worldwide.

      The Mullahs partially bankrupted their country to build an arsenal and to wage war on Israel through Hizb’allah, Hamas, Yemen and Syria (before Assad was kicked out). About 35% of Iran lives below the poverty line, and the mullahs destroyed water sources within Iran, so Tehran does not now have enough water. Also, their quest to have a nuclear bomb never ceases. They also impose the strictest Shia Islam on their population, and their human rights record is abysmal.

      Any one of these things by itself (except maybe their nuclear ambitions) would not justify the U.S. getting involved. But, the U.S. getting involved stabilizes world order in the long run. Nip a small skin infection in the bud with a course of antibiotics, and the patient gets a little diarrhea from the treatment. Wait until the infection progresses to Cellulitus, and you’ve bought a hospital stay for several days for intravenous antibiotics. Wait until you go septic, and your hospital stay increases yet some more. Wait till septic shock follows and you stand a large chance of not making it home.

      As long as the U.S. does not get into a long drawn out war, in my opinion this was a very beneficial and justifiable attack that will prevent many future problems for the U.S. By all indications, the US and Israel will be giving air support, until the Iranian people finish the job.

      After the dust settles and Pahlavi heads a constitutional monarchy, will we have real stability in the Middle East. Sometimes the U.S. must step up to stop the spread of evil. When playing Hearts (the card game) eating a heart to prevent another player “shooting the moon” is the best long term strategy.

    So now these Gulf countries are pissed, and probably wouldn’t want this war to stop. But I daresay they won’t welcome a new, non-islamic Iran. That would be as big as the “naqba” – the creation of Israel: a historic part of dar ul islam now lost to it, hopefully forever

  8. I, too, hope that Iran makes a spectacular recovery and returns to its greatness of many years ago. I paid close attention to Iran during the 1960s and under the Shah they were very progressive, with many of their young citizens being sent abroad for education in the West’s finest schools. This, of course, outraged the religious fanatics and they waged a constant struggle to depose the Shah,

    • Many Iranians who opposed the brutality of the Shah seemed clueless that the Mullahs would be many times worse.
