The BBC says the attackers were jihadis from the al-Qaeda group Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin (JNIM), and that the jihadis murdered at least 20 people. What offense had the Ghanaian tomato traders committed? Had they “stolen land,” or trod down the sacred soil of the Kingdom of the Two Holy Places? Had they insulted Muhammad or the Qur’an? No. They had done nothing. They were just going about their business, until they ran into the imperative to “strike terror in the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60).

Government has confirmed terrorists attack on Ghanaian tomato traders in neighbouring Burkina Faso on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
“The Government of Ghana has received disturbing information from Burkina Faso of a truck carrying tomato traders from Ghana which was caught in a terrorist attack in Titao, Burkina Faso, on Saturday, February 14, 2026,” a statement signed by Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, noted.
It is currently not clear how many Ghanaians were involved in the terrorist attack, but information indicates that efforts are being made to identify them and offer the necessary assistance.
“The Ghana Embassy in Burkina Faso is liaising with the officials of Burkina Faso to visit the attack site for details and identification of Ghanaians caught in the attack,” the statement further indicated….
