Amidst Fear and Despair, Iranians Wait for the Americans

Feb 2, 2026 2:00 pm By Hugh Fitzgerald

In the Islamic Republic of Iran, people are now full of fear, yet still hoping for the blow, the attacks, the war on their tormentors that President Donald Trump promised would happen if the killing of protesters didn’t stop. It didn’t; 36,500 protesters have been murdered so far, and 330,00 have been wounded. But Trump has yet to deliver on his promise. Iranians are despairing. They want an end to the regime that has provided only misery for the past 47 years, and wonder if the Americans will finally come through, kill their tormentors, and free them from this calvary. More on their mood can be found here: “Despair, ‘endless anger’ growing among Iranians as military action looms,” by Goldie Katz, Jerusalem Post, January 31, 2026:

Iranian citizens described living in great fear and constant anxiety as the threat of military action against the Iranian regime looms overhead in an interview with N12 News published on Friday.Dalara, from Karaj, a city west of Tehran, compared the anxiety surrounding the current threat of conflict to that of the 12-day war in June when “people understood that the attacks were targeted, specific, and that the risk of hitting civilian areas was low.””Today I feel that people no longer have anything to lose,” Dalara continued. “They are waiting at any moment for external help to come in the form of war. Some say: ‘I wish it would start already,’ because they know that the more the war is postponed, the number of deaths will only increase.”Dalara told N12 that the fear began after the first few days of anti-regime protests broke out, “when the phones didn’t work, the internet was down, and people didn’t know what was happening to others.””At night, you can hardly leave the house,” she added, stating that Iranian regime forces can stop civilians, search their phones, enter their houses, and arrest them. “People have no sense of security. The anxiety starts from the moment you leave the house and stays until you return. We feel that the street is no longer safe.”…
Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened the Islamic Republic of Iran over its killing of protesters, but the killing has gone on, albeit at a slower pace than on January 8 and 9, when the massacre in city streets across Iran was at its height. After the first two weeks of protests and the mass killing of protestors. Trump issued his call for the protests to continue and assured those protesters that “HELP IS ON THE WAY!”But the killings continued, albeit at a slower pace, and instead of acting as he had threatened to do, Trump decided to declare that he had been informed that the killing had stopped and so there was no longer any need for the U.S. to take action. He declared he was satisfied that he had stopped the killing of protesters, which, of course, he had not done. Trump waxes and wanes, he says one thing and then its opposite, this mercurial and unpredictable man, and he has done so especially in his statements about Iran. He utters menacing threats, pretends the threats have worked, and therefore he no longer feels any need to make his threats a reality. The killings of protesters, though the number of victims has decreased, are continuing. Now he has moved the USS Abraham Lincoln, an aircraft carrier, and several other ships in the carrier group as well, from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East, where another carrier group headed by the USS Ford, is already stationed. Their mere presence is supposed to overawe the Iranian leaders and cause the regime to end its nuclear program, and hand over to the Americans the 400 kg. of uranium Tehran has enriched to a just-below-weapons-grade purity of 60%.
Trump now has so many ways to rattle the cages, to flutter the dovecotes, to scare the supreme leader into burrowing deeper in his underground hideout, while the protesters can return in force to Iranian cities, confident of American support should more bombing be deemed necessary to stop the killings in the streets, in order to pull down the already tottering pillars of the Islamic Republic without — please note — the need for a single American soldier to be on the ground in Iran.

President Trump needs to and should and use American might to the Iranians overthrow that horrendous abomination of the “mullah tyranny” for they can then establish legitimate government that respects and safeguards the basic human rights and freedom that all people should have .

For It’s just too late for any type of “diplomatic settlement’.” The reason why this is so is because the massive human carnage is so horrendous that those murderous despots of Iran must be brought to justice. Likewise, their tyrannical Islamic regime need to be destroyed.

Furthermore, that cruel murderous horrendous vicious violence against the Iranian people is used by those despots of that bloody Islamic tyranny which has as its official title of “The Islamic Republic of Iran. Furthermore, the reason why this is so is because the essence of Islam is that of cruel vicious death inflecting violence.

Therefore, it should be made known that if the founder of the current Islamic tyranny, Ayatollah Khomeini would still be alive today, he would spit on those Westerners who say that “Islam is a non-violent religion.”

If Ayatollah Khomeini had clearly announced that “Those who know nothing about Islam pretend that Islam counsels against war….There are hundreds psalms and hadiths urging of Muslims to value war and to fight. …I spit upon those foolish souls who make such a claim.” [1] So if he was alive today who would spit on those Westerners who say that “Islam is a non-violent religion.” [1]

There are also many places in the Qu ‘ran that instruct in violence and killing for the cause of Islam. As found in ,for example Surah 2:191. 4:89.. 5:33. 9:5, 111,112 ,123. 47:4.

Therefore, President Trump should definitely no delay aiding in the liberation of the Iranian people from the cruel oppressive murderous tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran. Even if it requires using the intervention of a strong force of US military might.

For President Trump did promise to help the people of Iran in their righteous and just quest to establish a legitimate government installed in place of the horrific tyranny they now surer under.
Our President should keep his promise and not let the people of Iran down.

President Trump should keep his promise and not let the people of Iran down. To put it in other way. President Trump must make a liar out of himself.

President Trump should definitely have no delay aiding in the liberation of the Iranian people from the cruel oppressive murderous tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran. Even if it requires using the intervention of a strong force of US military might.

For President Trump did promise to help the people of Iran in their righteous and just quest to establish a legitimate government installed in place of the horrific tyranny they now surer under.

For that cruel despicable fiendish tyrant, Khamenei, and the other ayatollahs and the mullahs along with the other fiendish despots who are in power in that tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran , also have much blood guilt of the mass murder of so many innocent Iranians on their sinister hands.

For example, a woman interviewed by the Epoch Times 1/20/26. A1, didn’t give an isolated report such murderous atrocities committed by the “security forces’ against the Iranians people has been confirmed by many other Iranians and other sources.

The article reads” Nights in Tehran, Iran, are increasingly violent” an Iranian woman told that newspapers reporter, “She said the security forces often move through crowds on motorcycles firing indiscriminately. She said in the morning she was bodies in public areas and bold on the streets.”

In addition, the article further reports, “the death resulted from coordinated operation carried out primarily by Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Basij forces not from spontaneous clashes. Sources indicate that the operation was conducted under the direct orders from Ayatollah Khamenei.”

That wicked death –inflecting Khamenei and the other Islamic despots using their murdering criminals in uniform “security forces’ against the Iranian people who are justly and righteously revolting against that horrendously brutal cruel and deadly tyrannical Islamic regimes of Iran is outrageous and wrong.

Iranian people in the righteous quest for a genuine, legitimate government that respects and safeguard their basic human rights is a good worthy decent just very good cause.

If the Iranians are waiting for US, they’ll be waiting forever! Now that Witkoff is now at work, sitting w/ Aragchi as well as leaders from Saudi Arabia, Emirates, Oman and Egypt in Istanbul, they’re the latest to be thrown under the bus, after the Kurds, Druze and Israel

Somehow, nowadays, when I see Trump haters display their TDS, it doesn’t anger or even annoy me the way it did just a year ago. I just can’t wait for 2029, when he’ll no longer be in the White House. Hopefully, on the GOP side, we’ll have someone better than JD – someone who doesn’t get his foreign policy advice from Tucker, and who gets what a threat both islam and muslims are

Agreed. The JD and Tucker relationship is disturbing. And there’s no reason to believe JD will suddenly see the truth and existential stakes about Islam and confront and destroy it the day after he’s inaugurated POTUS in Jan 2029. If he was going to do that, then why isn’t he doing it now through public statements and strong counsel to the CINC?

I think JD’s Counter-Islam policy will be just as vacuous and non-existent as Trump’s. Just more of the same. And although I don’t see Vance being motivated by real-estate deals and wealth building as a parallel motivator/mission in foreign policy as Trump is, neither would I expect him to betray the trust and expectations Trump has of him in giving him the VPOTUS post in the first place, and supporting him and endorsing him for POTUS 2028.

Trump is concerned and protective of the $Billions of Trump properties invested now and into the future in Dar al-Islam, and JD won’t do anything to jeapordize it either. But I don’t think JD has a grasp anyway of what needs to be done to win and end this 1404 year deep zero-sum war. Otherwise, he’d be saying something now.

I don’t know who on the GOP bench has what it takes to win the global Islamic War. If I had to pick one now from those on the bench now, I’d pick DeSantis, as I did in 2024. It’s not that he’s done anything to prove he “gets it,” but neither has he done anything to prove he doesn’t. He’s a great governor, and he’s a 20+ year Naval Officer, so I think that would give him the experience and perspective to handle the CINC post and Islamic War more so than anyone else on the scene.

Of course, DeSantis will get hammered publicly in the 2028 primaries by Trump, with all Trump’s bully pulpit endorsements going to one of his own people: Vance or Rubio. I have a feeling Vance will be the nominee in ’28, based on all the support and rhetoric from the Republican voter base at large. Vance is the overwhelming favorite in Vegas betting odds.

Who I’d really like to see as CINC is a man like General Curtis LeMay. Sadly, men like that are exceedingly rare these days.

“Fear and despair ” among the Iranians is right they be justified that President Trump will not follow through with his promise to aid them in the quest to rid themselves from the bondage and oppression of evil murderous horrific tyrannical Islamic regime which they now suffer under.

Trump should not make a liar out of himself by not keeping to help them in their righteous quest to have a real, genuine government .

President Trump needs to and should and use American might to the Iranians overthrow that horrendous abomination of the “mullah tyranny” for they can then establish legitimate government that respects and safeguards the basic human rights and freedom that all people should have .

Attacking Iran is a very complicated issue. Let’s not go off half cocked and start a major war or long term boots on the ground operation. Yes what Irans so called leaders are doing to their own people is outrageous, but there are a lot of toes that will get stepped on if America attacks Irans leaders and disrupt oil and trade deals with many other countries. It’s complicated.

      Feb 3, 2026 at 12:12 pm

Complicated perhaps. Yet Iran is the weakest it has been in a long time. The U.S. and Isreal must take advantage of this.

I agree with you Old Guy, a “very complicated issue” for many reasons. But by that I am guessing you do not mean to do nothing, because, I think you’d agree that, if this regime and it’s inheritors stay in power, Iran will have nuclear weapons as soon as possible.

And, one of the complications is that one of America’s enemies may have already supplied them with hypersonic weapons, and maybe even a tactical nuke, to annihilate a carrier, or even an entire carrier strike group.

Ideally we force the leaders of Iran out from the inside and help build a democratic society in Iran.

Why do the people of the World as well as people in America willing wish for young Americans once again to go out and defend and protect as well as change Governments when so many scream about regime change in Central and South America for decades already.
Why are young Americans told to fight and die for the International Borders of countries millions of miles away from the Shores of America.
I dont see The Marines on ANY US International Border.
The Students of Iran overthrew The Shah and put these smelly old farts in power so perhaps the Students in Iran can now learn their mistake and now overthrow these smelly old farts and allow the Son of The Shah to return.
Of course its a different generation as all those Students who overthrew The Shah were soon executed by those same smelly old farts once they got the power.
Trump is playing them… He said he would invade and by doing so the Military of Iran came out of the darkness and exposed themselves as to where they are and what they have… Trump pulled back letting them think they won but now Uncle Sam knows clearly and so much better where and when they will attack though it seems to me the countries around Iran are the ones who should be doing the fighting and not young men from Kentucky who joined the Military for various reasons but one was to defend AMERICA and have a decent job and education and goodness for their family..
Read The Art of War and learn WHY Trump just did what he did…
    It aint over yet..
