The man has issued empty threats before, chiefly against Hamas, and so the mullahs may think they have good reason not to take this threat seriously. On the other hand, he has also struck Iran before. The mullahs may have to choose between being driven from power or becoming the recipient of more U.S. bombs.

  2. Please don’t. I don’t care even one bit about what happens in Iran. We’d be better off applying MAXIMUM sanctions and isolating them into submission.

    We, along with our European allies, should also send back the MILLIONS of Persians now living in the West. How do the Persians ever hope to defeat the mullahs if all the “good people” all fled to the West? Send them home and let THEM make Persia great again!

    • Don’t fully agree. First of all, Europe is rarely on the same page as us, and won’t do it

      Also, we should encourage all the Iranians to return only after their regime has been toppled, not throw their lives in danger before that happens. Already, the crowds in more than half their cities (how many is it today?) have created enough havoc, and if this sustains itself, the regime will collapse. Let Reza Pahlavi return and put together his plan to transition Iran into a secular democracy, and then let all those Iranian expats in the West return to their country to rebuild it

      They can start by working on their water crisis, shifting the capital (put it somewhere in the center, like Yazd, rather than Charbahar, and don’t move the entire Tehran population there), normalizing relations w/ Israel and the West, get their oil and gas sales back on the market to get money for reconstruction, not to give Hizbullah or the Houthis, and completely rebuild their economy, as well as democratic institutions. Oh, and last but not least, outlaw public islamic practices: people who are still muslim can only be allowed to do the 5 pillars, but nothing else – no azaan, no ashura self-lacerations,…

      Oh, and needless to say, such a new Iranian government should end all ties and support to muslim brotherhood allied organizations and countries, such as Hamas, Qatar, Turkey… They should recognize Israel w/ an embassy in Jerusalem, withdraw from the OIC and also expel all Afghan and other foreign muslim refugees in their country

      • Iran has no history of freedom or democracy — these are abstract terms to them. The Shah was a pretty ruthless ruler. What they do know is that they don’t like what they have now.
        If, or when, the current regime topples who knows what they get next but it certainly won’t be American-style democracy.
        As I recall Dubya’s administration expected the Iraqi population to welcome US soldiers by lining the streets waving mini US flags. Oops, didn’t happen then and don’t expect it to be any different with Iran.

        You are right about their history. It’s been monarchy dynasties throughout their history. Interestingly though, the Pahlavis were the first ethnic Iranic dynasty to rule, after the Samanids, in post Zoroastrian Iran. Every empire that had occupied that country – from Ghazavids to the Qajars (excluding Hulegu Khan’s Ilkhanate) was Turkic, so there’s that

        However, there is a world of difference b/w Iran and its 2 neighbors. Both those neighbors – Afghanistan and Iraq – take pride in islam. In Iran, however, after now 45 years of an islamic theocracy, people are so sick of it that only 40% of Iranians today admit to still being muslim (this was from a GAMAAN survey 6 years ago: I daresay that number is even lower today) There are lots of people openly calling for banning islam, and there is one slogan “No true Iranian is muslim, and no true muslim is Iranian”

        Also, Reza Pahlavi has openly said that he’s not trying to become Shah again, but has rather put together a transition team to ensure that his country doesn’t plunge into chaos the day the ayatollah falls. He’s put together a list of criteria for a new regime, such as it being secular and democratic, which is a great start, and also respect Iran’s territorial integrity, so that that country doesn’t split into Farsi, Azeri, Kurish, Balochi and Arab parts. That is important so that wolves from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan or Iraq don’t try to take advantage of that situation. He has also promised due process to everybody who supported the regime and participated in its crimes – a novelty in dar ul islam. Finally, he’s said that only if a majority of people want it will he become shah, and that too, he’d be more of a titular head of state, like King Charles, rather than the type of king his father was, or MbS just across the Gulf. Although, for a country like Iran, I do think he should be more of an executive king, although he can be better about respecting human rights than his father was

        The other major difference from Afghanistan or Iraq is that this is an internal revolution that is happening, not one pushed by even Israel, let alone US. In fact, last year, you had Trump launch into expletives at Israel for trying to topple the regime, and they stopped. So if the regime falls, it won’t be due to the “US imperialists” or the
        Zionists”, but rather Iranians who’ve finally decided to wage an all-or-nothing war against their islamic oppressors

        • You may be right. I was wrong once before — I thought I was mistaken but I was wrong.
          In any event I am dubious about Trump’s view of “peaceful demonstrators” after his wholesale pardoning of Jan 6th’s “peaceful protestors”. If I called you a “chair” it wouldn’t make you a chair.

        • The January 6th demonstrations were peaceful: the only casualty being Ashley Babbitt, one of the demonstrators

          The Iranian protesters may or may not be peaceful, but given the totalitarian regime that they’re opposing, I won’t hold it against them if they choose not to. Gandhian protests only work w/ civilized authorities, like the Brits

          The videos released of the Capitol events on January 6th totally busted the media claims of a riot and violence. At this point, they should not be compared to protests happening in Iran or Europe

    • Logic is false. the people who call themselves Persians have fled persecution and are genuine asylum seekers unlike most of the ME types who are infiltrating Europe with no intention od integarting and very likely jihadis/ It is the latter who need deporting

      • The first run in I had with Muslims was in 1979 with Iranian students at the International House at UC Berkeley when I had a display of my art torn down and damaged because it contained a figure who was not fully clothed.

        I was so shocked at the time–I naively assumed that Iranians clear of the Mullahs and studying in the US would all be opposed to oppressive Islamic law. I was sadly wrong and learned the hard way.

  3. So wouldn’t he have been better off last year if, at the end of the 12 day war, instead of launching into an expletive-laden tirade against Israel, he had just stayed quiet while Israel took down the regime?

    I also wonder how the anti-interventionist part of MAGA will react to this? Particularly Tucker Carlson! Will he now have an interview w/ the grand ayatollah?

    What we should do: secretly greenlight Israel to topple the regime, either covertly or overtly as it sees fit

  4. I get that nagging feeling now and again that Trump is not enough even though he’s the best bet the West has at present. Frankly, perhaps the best he could do is green light Israel to do what it wants to but he didn’t let that happen last year and why he didn’t remains something of a mystery to me.

    • Wellington,the last thing Trump wants to do is start a war that’s why he is being so very careful in the way he is going about things. Personally I still believe he’s probably the best leader the west has had since Churchill. Like yourself I’ve also doubted him, but he has warned Iran and I believe he will stick to his word. He now realises that they had the chance of regime change when they attacked Irans nuclear facilities, but didn’t do it. So if Iran continues on the path it’s on regime change is the only option.

      • In other words he has to go about it in a very gentle way because he doesn’t want a reply from Russia or China.

    • Yeah, I completely disagree w/ what he did then. However, having done that, he should now just stay quiet about it, rather than sabre-rattle about what he’d do if the regime does anything to its people. I also see the antisemitic part of MAGA get a haemorrhage if we end up actually bombing regime targets in support of the protesters: we should absolutely stay out of it!

  5. President Trump is 100% right for siding the Iranian people in their righteous and just revolt against the brutal cruel oppressive and murderous tyrannical Islamic regime of Iran.

    Back in time with President Trump’s first term of his administration on the date of 4/22/19 the US Secretary of State ,Michael Pompeo spoke of that brutal and oppressive tyranny which oppresses the people of Iran and said “We will not appease their oppressors as that last administration did .” Pompeo then stated, “We will support the Iranian people.”

    As far back as on Tuesday, 2/5/ 19 in his second State on the Union a speech President Trump ,wisely, spoke of that Islamic tyranny of Iran as well as those in total power and complete of that tyrannical rogue state. For the President declared “It is a radical regime, they do bad, bad things.”

    Moreover, an author of an article on a Freedom Site, Dariush Afshar, had explained the reality of the situation well when he wrote that the “People of Iran who fight for freedom in Iran and abroad put a huge gap and draw a prominent line between Iran and the Islamic regime in Tehran.”

    This is sadly and tragically the terrible reality of this Islamic tyrannical regime of Iran. This Islamic tyranny has been well nicknamed “the mullahs regime” in which them mullahs and ayatollahs as well as other fiendish and fanatical Muslims in power have a strong and awful control of the Islamic regime of Iran and through their band of Islamic state “police” , who are called the “Revolutionary Guards “come down hard human rights of the Iranian people .

    Therefore, the Iranian people who are trapped and forced to exist in this Islamic tyranny live in terrible fear of the mullahs and others in power in Iran. This is a tragic and sad reminder of the wisdom that was printed in the periodical of Benjamin Franklin which is entitled POOR RICHARDS’ ALMANAC that reads “Those who are feared are also hated.”

    It also should be added, to this that the actual word “Republic” has on origin the Latin meaning “Of the people” With the mullahs ayatollahs in so much power and even influencing the parliament of this Islamic regime is tyranny is hardly a real republic .Furthermore the ruthless gang of thugs who are the stooges of those Muslim clerics, called the “Revolutionary Guards,” those Islamic State “police” come down hard on the human rights and freedoms of the Iranian people. Therefore the people do have the right to overthrow a tyranny. This reality had even been expressed and described by men of great intelligence .For example, the philosopher .John Locke. This is wisdom that mullahs and other villains in power in that Islamic tyranny don’t want the Iranian people to know about or understand.

It should be made known that this called the “Iranian Revolution” turned out to be a hoax. Ayatollah Khomeini before achieving power in Iran in his lying and deceptions presented himself to the Iranian people as if he was someone who would be in power would give freedom to the people of Iran with any tyranny. The reality turned out to be just the opposite.

    To put this in another way, the very actual essence of that Islamic tyranny, Ayatollah Khomeini had made in known that “The Islamic Republic of Iran would be Islamic and nothing but .He declared ‘What the nation wants is an Islamic Republic . Not just a Republic, not a democratic Republic, not a democratic Islamic Republic. Do not use the word “democratic” to describe it. That is the Western style. ” [1]

  7. I am on the fence on this. I remember 1979 and I am inclined to believe that some payback is in order. I’m not talking about an invasion of regular US military forces but perhaps some black Ops conducted by special operators on a limited scale to assist the Iranian people. It has been over 45 years since 1979 and revenge is a dish that is best served cold.

    • I do think we should just stay quiet about this, even if we are rooting for the Iranians, particularly the anti-muslim amongst them, to prevail. Last thing we ought to do is provide the islamic regime propaganda points that this insurrection is being backed by the West, even if we’re doing nothing operationally to topple them

  8. If you look at what is being posted on “X,” you can see just how out of control things are in Iran. People are breaking into police stations, stealing weapons, and then burning them down. The morality police are being hunted down and killed. Huge dancing parties of women burning Burkas. Traditional dancing, long banned by the clerics, is being seen in the streets. Word is that the US and Israel have a target list of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The IRGC is number one on the list to be destroyed. This removes the principal enforcement power the Clerics have.

    • Many years ago I lived next door to an older Iranian woman who had escaped the 1979 revolution. I helped her out with her computer and in return she made me dishes of food from her old country. Very nice lady. I felt sorry for her that she was alone in a strange country but she never gave me any sign that she was unhappy.

  14. All over the world. Through mass immigration displacing indigenous populations (especially in Western countries) we are in WW3 and have been for awhile. Most people dont recognize it because the Western media, the media that at one time could be somewhat trusted to tell the truth, in comparison to the Soviet bloc socialist media, have become untrustworthy.

  15. Why people in America would elect muslim/islamic followers into public office is not understandable. Iran at one time was a vary prosperous country until the mullahs took over and destroyed their economy and murdered anyone who stood up against them.
