Minnesota‘s Somali community has been under scrutiny over the fraud scandal that has enveloped state leaders.
The outcry had already prompted Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz to drop his reelection bid, which he did last week, before an ICE officer shot an unarmed woman, further propelling Minnesota into the news.
Daily Mail polling conducted January 5 and 6 – also before the fatal ICE shooting – found that the Minnesota fraud scandal was taking a toll on how American voters viewed Somali immigrants.
Somalians were viewed least favorably compared to other immigrant groups in the J.L. Partners poll.
In fact, they were the only group that polled in negative territory.
Thirty percent of registered voters said Somali immigrants made a bad impact on the United States.
That’s higher than the 24 percent who said they made a good impact and the 29 percent who viewed the community neutrally.
For years, President Donald Trump has slammed Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar, the highest-profile member of the community, mocking her at a rally-like event in Pennsylvania in December for wearing a ‘little turban.’…
Note that this opinion poll, in which Somalis are rated as the “least favorable” immigrant group by far, with thirty percent of Americans viewing them as having a negative effect on America, took place while the Somali fraudsters are still being investigated in both Minneapolis and Lewiston. So far, fraud amounting to one billion dollars, money that did not go to the intended recipients — the poor and the disabled in Minneapolis —has been uncovered, and more than 80 people convicted, all but a handful of them Somalis, but it is believed that once the investigation is complete, the fraud, or rather frauds, may have totaled ten billion dollars. And after that information has been taken in by Americans from sea to shining sea, how much more enraged will the public become with what is already our least liked immigrant population, the Somalis?

The pause, which will impact applicants from Latin American countries including Brazil, Colombia, and Uruguay, Balkan countries such as Bosnia and Albania, South Asian countries Pakistan and Bangladesh, and those from many nations in Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean, will begin on January 21, the spokesperson said.
“The State Department will use its long-standing authority to deem ineligible potential immigrants who would become a public charge on the United States and exploit the generosity of the American people,” said Tommy Pigott, Principal Deputy Spokesperson at the State Department.
“Immigrant visa processing from these 75 countries will be paused while the State Department reassesses immigration processing procedures to prevent the entry of foreign nationals who would take welfare and public benefits,” he added.
The move, which was first reported by Fox News, does not impact U.S. visitor visas, which have been in the spotlight given the United States is hosting the 2026 World Cup and 2028 Olympics.
The decision follows a November directive to U.S. diplomats asking them to ensure that visa applicants are financially self-sufficient and do not risk becoming dependent on government subsidies during their stay in the U.S., according to a State Department cable seen by Reuters at the time.”

“Nick Shirley, the viral YouTuber who reports on alleged fraud at Somali-run daycare centers in Minnesota, released new video Wednesday showing his security stepping between him and an angry Somali man who repeatedly berated him during a confrontation.
Shirley posted a video in December showing several daycare centers in Minnesota that he identified as Somali-run, including one that reportedly received $4 million in public funding yet appeared to have no children on site. In Shirley’s latest video upload, his security team stepped in and positioned themselves between him and an angry Somali as the man confronted Shirley.
Video of the exchange shows a visibly agitated Somali man accusing Shirley of “sensationalizing propaganda” and attacking the Somali and Muslim communities for profit. Shirley rejected the claims outright, repeatedly saying that his reporting targets fraud, not race, religion, or ethnicity.
“I’m not attacking you guys. Let me tell you the reason why. Fraud is fraud. This has nothing to do with race. This is fraud,” Shirley said.
The confrontation intensified when the man accused Shirley of fueling anti-Muslim sentiment and claimed that Islamophobes weaponize Shirley’s reporting so that they can call for Muslims to be expelled from Minnesota.
