Identity politics, which relies on claims of victimhood, needs to be fought by everyone who values America, as well as everyone who values common sense. America had a black president, and for two dreadful terms to boot. Obama aided and enabled a Trojan horse into America — the Muslim Brotherhood, whose founder Hassan al-Banna “taught that there is no aspect of life that falls outside Islam’s bounds.” He stated:
It is the nature of Islam to dominate, not to be dominated, to impose its law on all nations and to extend its power to the entire planet,”
Some legacy Obama left. Nonetheless, he was exceptionally successful, holding the highest office for eight years in a great country that leftists claim is “racist.”
No amount of black success in America will stop white leftists from supporting the push for reparations, which is degrading to blacks at best.
Although the current intention is not to use taxpayer funds, but instead “private donations, foundations and other non-city sources,” the idea of inching toward public funding isn’t off the table.
Once the private donations are sealed, it is one step closer to public funding. The State of California has long sought reparations. Only two months ago, Gavin Newsom approved a slavery reparations agency “to administer restitution for descendants of slaves,” thus revealing the Democrats’ plan. Newsom actually approved this agency in the legislation, “SB 518, five years after forming a task force in the wake of George Floyd’s murder to study the legacy of slavery in California and how the state could implement reparations policies.”
So what about reparations for Indians who were indentured laborers? Or for Jews from Germans for the Holocaust (which Germans did pay, but the California measure is much more broad)? Or for the Chinese due to their suffering at the hands of the Japanese? Why only blacks?
And what about Arabs, who were extensively involved in the enslavement and trade of black Africans in the Trans-Saharan slave trade? When are blacks going to go after the Arabs for reparations? Muslim Arabs are still holding black slaves to this day in Mauritania, Sudan, Algeria, Libya.
And if indeed reparations are paid, does this mean that the recipients will be sent back to Africa? Or do they want the benefits of living in America too, despite regarding it as still “racist” and “colonialist”?

It establishes the legal framework for the fund but does not allocate funds or guarantee payments. The fund can be financed with private donations, foundations and other non-city sources.
Any taxpayer-funded reparations payouts would require separate legislation, an identified funding source and mayoral approval. Lurie told Fox News Digital that no taxpayer money would be paid into the potential pot, given the city’s $1 billion budget deficit….

What about those Chinese laborers who worked for a pitance, underfed, overworked, and died by the thousands to build Leland Stanford’s railroad? His foreman would entertain visiting guests at the work site by throwing a handful of pennies toward the Chinese workers to watch them scramble.
Where are the student protestors at Stanford who should be demanding reparations?

Millionaires and billionaires know how to hide their money….that’s one reason they have so much.
Once they leave the State, they won’t be sending any taxes back.

I wonder how many of those Walgreens and Rite Aids in San Francisco are still open, much less whether any have re-opened, since Daniel Lurie became mayor? A lot of those either shut down, or put almost all products behind locks to avoid being vandalized. In the meantime, people who depended on those stores b’cos they were the only ones that were walking distance (in a city pretty hostile to cars) are left inconvenienced

Does a recent migrant from Africa qualify for American reparations, even if neither he,nor any of his relatives, were affeced by slavery in America?
Does someone with one black and three white grandparents qualify? What about someone with one black and fifteen great-great grandparents? If they qualify, would they get much less than someone with two black parents? How to calibrate the correct amount?

Well, if a state that never had slavery is giving out that money, why not give it out to people – neither whose ancestors nor they – were ever slaves? That way, people who never practiced slavery can pay people who were never slaves

How about people who had people who were Native Americans and had nothing to do with slavery? How about Whites who had things just as bad or worse, doing the same work under the same conditions as Blacks?
How many Blacks can prove that their relatives were slaves? And so what? A slave two hundred years ago has been dead a long time. Any one of them, had he been a freeman, probably wouldn’t have been able to pass down better conditions to their great, great great grandchildren than he did as a slave. Just look at modern-day Africa.
It’s all just a lot of nonsense and will make Whites….who have never been racist….resent those Blacks who suddenly become millionaires from tax hikes.

I lived in Santa Clara county, which is 2 counties south of San Francisco. I was fine there, but hated it every time I had to go to SF, which usually was when my friends wanted to go there
Santa Clara itself was unrecognizable in 2014 when I last visited. I shudder to think about what it is these days

Two things that have progressed is hatred of white Americans and America has brought in even more black Africans. We didn’t learn our lesson the first time.

I’m sorry that someones ancestors did your ancestors wrong but I or my ancestors had nothing to do with it but fight and die to stop slavery in America. There was a world of difference between Santa Clara County in 1996 and the early 1980s. By the time you arrived I had been back in Orange County for ten years. I was in the Navy up there but I also had a part time job at Hewlett Packard in Sunnyvale (the tech boom up there had not yet begun). When I got out of the Navy I got a job as a foreman for an irrigation company doing refits upgrades and new installations. I left that area in 1986 as a result of a relationship that went sour and that was the only thing keeping me there. That still bothers me to this day. I eventually went back to college and to a computer school and got in to IT not long after you arrived here in 1992 as a student. But interestingly, not up there, down in SoCal. If you thought it was fine in 96 you should have been there in 1980. I had a lot of fun and even though it was the same state it was different from where I came from. It is a shame what the changes up there have brought about as of today.
