No attack on Iran: Trump claims regime has stopped killing protesters

Trump warned on January 2 the Islamic Republic that if they killed protesters, the U.S. would retaliate:

Now, he seems to have walked that back, implying by saying that the killing has stopped that no intervention is necessary. In reality, however, the killing has not stopped, and will not stop. The Islamic Republic rules by terror, and terror is its only weapon. The Iranian people trusted Trump and put their lives on the line. At this point, it looks as if his threats were empty and he has let them down. An attack still could materialize, but with 20,000 dead in Iran, it is already far too late. The president has issued empty threats before, particularly regarding Israel and Hamas, and they make him look weak and untrustworthy. His enemies, avid to find anything they can use to destroy him, will play this up for all it’s worth. The mullahs, meanwhile, can breathe a sigh of relief: they cleared their airspace last night, in anticipation of an attack, and now it looks as if the crisis is over and they have outlasted Trump. They might as well take a cue from the Kennedy Center and rename the country The Trump Islamic Republic of Iran, as it owes its continuing existence to him.

This is a gargantuan and ghastly betrayal that could result in the complete discrediting of Trump and his presidency, and pave the way for the full victory of socialist authoritarianism in the U.S. in 2028.

I hope Trump will soon prove me wrong with an attack that will topple the Islamic Republic. That would not have been the bar if he himself had not set it there, but he did. Pretending that the mullahs have now become sweethearts isn’t going to save face for the president or fool anyone.

  1. This is a MAJOR disappointment. A surgical strike at this juncture, taking out Iran’s military, would guarantee a regime change. No longer would Iran be a thorn in the side of the US and Israel and the Shah would be extra friendly to the US for facilitating the regime change.

    Maybe Trump knows something that we don’t, but on its face, this is a very bad development.

So now he come’s up with the, “The Ayatollah and the IRGC have stopped killing their subjects so I won’t attack Iran.” when we all know that the Ayatollah and his cronies in the IRGC are still slaughtering people by the hundreds to quell the revolution that has erupted across Iran.   3. Trump is now as bad as President George Bush 41. Going forward, I’ll no longer be voting for candidates he endorses, unless those candidates happen to be as hawkish about islam as we are. I won’t go TDS, but he no longer has my unqualified support

    In the meantime, I just hope the protests persist independently of whether the US or Israel is gonna help them. As they said, things aren’t going to get better, so there’s no point stopping

I considered myself a part of MAGA when it had nothing to do w/ the hatred of Jews, Hindus, nor anything to do w/ tying the hands of Israel when responding against Iran.   6. It would help his image a lot if he would think before speaking. That is, think with his brain and not with his mouth.
    I suspect he will walk back on Venezuela too, leaving the current government in place but with some concessions to American business. To heck with democracy. Doesn’t care if a dictatorship or not as long as the US can control its economy. Nothing new here.

He’s trying to browbeat oil companies into investing there, but as they point out, all the institutional protections that existed there before Hugo Chavez are gone, and Maduro’s abduction didn’t change that ground reality. I understand that he doesn’t want American troops there, which is fine, but then, like you said, don’t say things that you don’t mean to execute on

    • Yeah. According to Goldie Ghamari, the death toll in Iran is now 30,000. Even if the regime cancels all the 800 planned executions and stop, there has to be an accountability for that genocide. It’s not something like a trade quote that one can just reverse on the fly

  9. Trump is not looking good over the past day or so. Perhaps this will change. Better because if this heinous regime in Iran survives there is no way this will help Trump and any weakening of Trump will only redound to the Democrats, something not conducive to America’s best interests.

      I don’t think this regime is gonna survive: the Iranian people seem to have gone for broke. If they back away now, the repercussions will be deadly, w/ the IRGC cracking down later when no one’s looking. So they have no choice but to battle on

      The only difference our military strikes would make is determining the price of liberation. Yeah, it is often hard fought and won only by blood, but the question is how much? Already, they’re talking about a death toll of 20,000-30,000, but despite it, the demonstrations are raging on. In the meantime, the god emperor does nothing, despite sanctimoniously proclaiming that even one death is one too many. Juxtapose the above 2 facts, and he looks like a laughing stock

      At his point, given the bloodletting that he’s allowed to happen, even if we end up doing something that helps Iranians topple the regime, I will not redact my criticism of him

      • Matters very fluid, Infidel. I agree with you that if the Iranian people en masse don’t do it now, then when? And as you indicated scores of Iranians must know this.

        As for Trump, to date this has not been his finest hour to put it mildly but I believe there is still time for him to redeem himself but not much time. If this heinous Iranian regime survives one thing is for certain and that is that Trump will not come out of this looking good, again to put it mildly.

  10. I don’t think hitting Iran is any kind of small feat. There has to be coordination and planning in order to make it successful. Other militias from Iraq and Hezbollah too said they’d get involved. Sometimes he walks things back before he strikes. Israel doesn’t want this Iran the mullahs have created that still wants to make nukes. Anyway, just wait and be patient.

  11. We don’t know what’s on trumps table. Have to give him that, but to lie and lie is not a good thing.perhaps Iran cells in america are so wired up that trump is blackmailed to inaction?
    Because trump saved hamas and hezbolla by a cease fire gives me some fears.
    I don’t want to yet proclaim that trump is Allah who is the best of
    deceivers, the koran says.
    Just praying for a free Iran under Pahlavi gets a chance and before too many perish.
    My mind envisions those to be hung not being hung, yay trump, and instead languish in dungeons alive and beaten and barely fed but they aren’t hung, yah trump.

  12. So basically the regime was allowed to kill 20,000 and Trump’s Jan 2nd tweet has turned out to be a lie. He didn’t have the protestor’s backs at all. In fact he ENCOURAGED them to keep protesting which got even more killed…. then he backs off. And somehow NOW trusts the Regime’s words.

    This will effectively embolden MORE islamic jihadism.

  14. For many years, I have treasured and regularly read Jihad Watch. What an incredible gift to explosing the violence and never ending harm from Islamic ideology. I can hardly give enough praise. However, I am very shocked at the anti-Trump articles about Trump and Iran. It is false to saoy Trump has done nothing when two warship carriers are at this moment on their way. It takes time to happen! The Saudis and Qatar have cllosed their air space. Trump must have take-off and landing capacities, and the carriers will provide that. Tousi TV does a magnificent job of explaining why Trump had to abort the original plan because it would not produce the strongest success. Other attacks have taken months of planning, and your criticisms put out expectations things must be done in days. I am sure when Trump said, “Locked and loaded,” he believed the plan was perfected. It was not. But I blieve Trump is a man of his word and I find your present complaints against him unsubstantial and deeply disappointing. Thank God we have TOUSi.tv/news/ to gain the proper understanding of necessaroy delays.

    • Judith, Jihad Watch has been *very* supportive of President Trump–generally for good reason. But there is obviously a lt that he does not know about Islam, and pointing this out is not inappropriate.

      I also hope he comes through.
