In Lewiston, Maine, Somali City Councilor Now Under Investigation for Theft and Fraud

Somalis are the largest immigrant group in Lewiston, Maine. And just now a Somali migrant, Iman Osman, has been sworn in as a member of the Lewiston City Council, while under investigation for a variety of offenses. The City of Lewiston officially swore in Iman Osman as one of the four new members of the City Council Monday night, even as he faces active criminal charges and ongoing investigations into residency and potential fraud.

Earlier this week, Osman, a Somali migrant and community leader, was sworn in as the Ward 5 Councilor despite facing two felony charges related to stolen property, including the unauthorized taking and receiving of stolen firearms from two estates.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that, according to court documents obtained by WMTW, the alleged crimes involve weapons taken from two separate estates between November 15, 2023, and October 11, 2024.

The indictment accuses Osman of knowingly receiving, retaining, or disposing of firearms or explosive devices that he knew, or had reason to believe, were stolen….

In the indictment, Osman lists his address as 210 Blake Street in Lewiston, a property that has been condemned since October 2024 following a drug raid and the use of chemical agents described as “a deterrent for humans.”

In other words, the address used by the councilor-elect is legally uninhabitable.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, the Lewiston School Committee declined to investigate Osman’s residency claims.

However, in response to mounting public scrutiny, the Lewiston City Council voted 6-1 on Tuesday to hire an independent investigator to review Osman’s qualifications and whether he lawfully meets residency requirements for the seat he now holds.

WGME reported:

The council voted 6-1 Monday night to hire an independent investigator, with Osman being the lone “No” vote….

If a counselor is charged with lacking the necessary qualifications to serve, that member is entitled to a hearing.

From there, it takes a “Yes” vote from at least five members to remove a councilor from office.

Iman Osman was no doubt hoping that his fellow city councilors would overlook the charges against him — of theft and fraud. He must have thought that they would be reluctant to investigate the sole Somali member of the Council, lest they be accused of “racism” and “Islamophobia.” Fortunately, he thought wrong, and once the investigator’s damning report is submitted, Osman could conceivably be expelled from the city council.

  1. Somalis in Maine has wrong and stupidity written all over it and one knows this or should know it. And this comment of mine has nothing to do with racism. I don’t care about biological characteristics but rather character. Bringing in thousands from a country that is completely dysfunctional and whose people are almost without exception adherents of the worst religion ever devised by man is not a “move” that places character at the top of the list respecting who should be allowed to immigrate to America.

    • I guess you MISSED all the videos put out by Somalis that claimed they are “ not black.” They also went on to say that black Americans are jealous, lazy, and one even called them the N word!

      So…let’s forget about YOU being racist. They are racist and all with any charges should be deported. They are now saying that they’re in the U.S. to take our country and that we work for them!

      When I was a student in college back in India, I recall once meeting a Sudanese student. He was pretty black himself, but one of the things he emphasized was that he was Arab, not Black. The Somalis you describe seem to echo that sentiment

      I still find it puzzling how Somalia is a part of the Arab League, despite being a non Arabic speaking country. It’s not like Turkey or Pakistan are a part of it

      • Muslims disdain Blacks–“Prophet Muhammed” called them “raisin heads”. So even many sub-Saharan Muslims consider themselves “Arab”.

    If parents pulled their children out of systems that cannot be bothered to investigate this serious a set of allegations, the tide would turn quickly.

    • School systems are nothing but huge businesses supported by taxpayer money. If more parents dd as you say, those running the businesses might reconsider not checking to see who they are hiring to have a say in children’s lives.

    The authorities should keep “kicking her out”….all the way to Africa.

A few Act for America – ME members met with Democratic governor, John Baldacci’s Chief of Staff, David Farmer, back in 2011 to alert their administration to the fraud and money laundering taking place in Lewiston Halal shops. His response was, “Well, we can’t lock them up in internment camps like we did to the Japanese-Americans during WW II.” What?! They did nothing and the problem has metastasized exponentially since then. Still think the “system” isn’t broken?

  7. It is much safer and more profitable the be a Somali pirate operating in the USA than it is to be a Somali pirate operating off the coast of Somalia.

      I agree. It seems to me that this is why armies retaliate with overwhelming force, e.g. Fire Bombing of Dresden, Nukes in Japan and Israel in Gaza.
      An army responding to aggression must take actions that are not “in proportion to the aggression” but overwhelming to the enemy population to scare the resistance out of them.
      Thus the “War Is Hell” acknowledgment.
      You can’t apply the ,often stupid, “proportional” value used in individual crimes to that of war. Demoralizing force must be applied to part, so that the whole, who outnumber the enforcers, doesn’t keep up the resistance.
      This dynamic needs to be applied by the government to support ICE.
      It’s much more difficult because there are illegal immigration, legal immigration and domestic situations but it needs to be recognized that there will aways be “more of them” than there are enforcers.
      What are the most effective actions do you take in those situations? It seems war theory tacticians need to be called on and perhaps game theorists could contribute.
      So far prosecuting Judge Hannah Dugan was a step in the right direction. She personally lost a lot and for what? The effect on other rogue judges is priceless.

  9. This now commonplace. Conservatives now have leverage on the Somalis and the socialist party. The fraud lever. This can be used to deport Somalis that are engaging in this activity. This can be used as leverage against socialist/communists. Examples would be Walz, Frey.
