IDF Hits Hamas and Hezbollah Targets

In Gaza, Hamas still refuses to disarm, as it is required to do according to the Second Phase of the Trump Plan. And in Lebanon, Hezbollah has not turned its weapons over to the Lebanese Army, as it is obligated to do according to the ceasefire established between Israel and Lebanon. Israel has as a consequence kept up its attacks in Gaza on Hamas, and in Lebanon on Hezbollah, both to preempt attacks and to respond to them. After warning of imminent attacks on Hezbollah infrastructure on Monday, the IDF began striking Hezbollah and Hamas terror targets in Lebanon, the military said.

The IDF said the strikes, which were carried out north of the Litani River, stopped attempts to rebuild terrorist infrastructure in the area.

The attack comprised four strikes, and two subterranean Hezbollah structures were among the infrastructure targeted, the army said.

The initial announcement warning of the strikes, made by IDF Arabic-language spokesperson Col. Avichay Adraee on X/Twitter, identified locations in the towns of Kfar Hatta and Ain Al-Tinah as the targets.

Adraee said action would be taken in response to attempts by Hezbollah to reestablish its activities in the area. It did not mention that Hamas targets were among those that would be hit.

Adraee’s post on X included maps of the imminent strike sites, with the target zones shaded in red.

“We urge the residents of the buildings marked in red in the attached maps and the buildings adjacent to them: You are located near buildings used by Hezbollah, and for your safety, you are required to evacuate them immediately and stay away from them by a distance of at least 300 meters,” he said.

“Remaining in the area of the marked buildings puts you in danger.”…

As is its wont, the IDF warns civilians before striking, sometimes by dropping leaflets, or sending text messages, or making robocalls. In this case it posted on social media maps showing exactly what places the IDF would be targeting in Lebanon north of the Litani River. It tries always to minimize civilian casualties, while Hamas and Hezbollah try to maximize them.

The Israeli action in Lebanon comes after Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar met with the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis, in Jerusalem on Sunday to discuss regional security and Lebanon’s future.

“I reiterated the importance of Hezbollah’s disarmament for both Israel’s security and Lebanon’s future,” Sa’ar said.

“Efforts have been made in this regard by the Lebanese government and the Lebanese Armed Forces, but they are far from sufficient, among other things, in light of Hezbollah’s efforts to rearm and rebuild, with Iranian support.”…

Until recently the Lebanese Armed Forces were too weak to confront Hezbollah, but two things have happened to change that dynamic. First, Hezbollah is much weaker than it has ever been, thanks to the IDF, that assassinated the group’s charismatic leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and his successor Hashem Safieddine, killed 4,000 Hezbollah members and severely wounded 3,800 others by using the “exploding pagers,” and destroyed 80% of Hezbollah’s arsenal of rockets and missiles. Second, the Lebanese Armed Forces have in the past year been supplied with hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of weapons by the Americans.

The moral of this tale is this: in the ranks of the ever-vigilant IDF, whether striking at Hezbollah in Lebanon or Hamas in Gaza, there is no rest for the weary. Or as the Good Book says: He that watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. It’s a lesson that the terrorists are unable to comprehend.
