Even if it were true that Ahmad Jihad Bojeh couldn’t afford the treatment, plenty of social services would have been only too happy to pay it for him. And why was he freed at all after attempting murder? Did Monique Worrell not care that he might try to kill again? And now he has succeeded.

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. — State Attorney Monique Worrell defended her office’s handling of Ahmad Bojeh’s past acquittal by reason of insanity, following criticism from Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier after Bojeh was arrested for the murder of three tourists in Kissimmee over the weekend.
Worrell highlighted her office’s nearly 70% conviction rate last year but focused on addressing the prior acquittal of Bojeh, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity in a 2021 shooting at a Wawa gas station.
“The criminal legal system is not adequately equipped to deal with mental illness, nor should it be,” Worrell said, calling for greater access to mental health services.
Bojeh was arrested by Osceola County deputies shortly after the murder of three tourists from the Midwest, who were visiting for a car auction and staying at the Airbnb next to his home in Kissimmee….
Worrell emphasized that it was the court that found Bojeh not guilty by reason of insanity in 2022, with a judge’s order for his conditional release barring him from having guns and requiring outpatient mental health treatment.
On Wednesday, Attorney General Uthmeier wrote on X, “Regardless of the spin State Attorney Worrell is selling, she knowingly stipulated to an agreement that avoided a jury trial and allowed Jihad Bojeh to receive outpatient treatment instead of being committed to a state hospital.”
“The mental health provider in this case found that that individual was not a danger to himself or others at the time of his sentencing, and based on that, the standard that is set forth in the statute prohibits the court from sentencing someone to involuntary commitment in a mental health hospital,” Worrell said.
Uthmeier also wrote, “She failed to pursue justice, and three men are dead because of her failure.” Worrell responded, “I can tell you that the prosecutor who was involved in this case was not known for being one to roll over.”
When asked about the Attorney General’s call for lawmakers to revise the state statute on the insanity defense, Worrell said, “Implying that it’s some sort of a loophole that people jump through so that they can avoid accountability, really shows a lack of understanding of the system and how the system works.”
Worrell also noted that cost became a factor preventing Bojeh from complying with his mental health treatment, as his bill increased from $7 to more than $150 a month….

They bear heavy responsibility for the deaths of the three men.
And the ‘mental health’ industry is not the ones who should be holding criminals….esp the criminally insane. Or criminal muzzies.

She is not altogether wrong. The problem is that people trust psychiatrists to have an expert opinion on the mental health of some person. Yet, psychiatrists who are called upon to predict the behavior can only sometimes stabilize a person with drugs. In other words, they are not very good at determining what the patient will do. But the courts listen to them. In most cases, the psychiatrists don’t know what the problem is, yet they still render “expert” opinion. If the criminal is considered mentally ill, he should be locked in a mental institution for at least as long as the prison sentence he would have received, if he was not mentally ill.

As for being able to “afford” the counseling…..he was living in an area of Florida where housing is expensive.. What was his source of income? Was he actually employed? Was he living alone? Was he renting or did he own the home?
And he had several weapons….which are not cheap. Who was supporting him?

The reason that this keeps happening is because of a lack of accountability.
If it had been a decision by a psychiatrist to let him out of a mental institution – and the patient went on very soon after to murder three people – the psychiatrist would be heavily sued and may have his/her license revoked.
But the Florida State Attorney is not held to that standard.

BTW, Florida State Hospital at Chattahoochee at one time housed this type of criminal at State expense. Which means free of charge to the criminal. Has that changed?

Where I come from, they are sentenced by a criminal law judge to forcibly undergo treatment in an insane asyulum. This is an open ended sentence reviewable periodically, so possibly for life.

The criminal violent insane should be lock up in jail in a mental ward full stop .To think they will take medicine or treatment without being forced to is insane .At least half of the homeless in democratic run cities have a problem with mental illness, people living on the street many of them violent. How many more people will have to be pushed in front of trains ,stab ,harassed on there way to work ,assaulted ,lite on fire on public transportation ,or shot ?Acts of violence on strangers who had no interactions with these crazy people who the courts keep releasing to the streets even after they keep committing acts of violence over the coarse of many years.
