The Lie of Israel’s ‘Genocide’ Justifies the Murder of Jews

Ever since the war in Gaza began, the haters of Israel and of Jews have made charges against the Jewish state that are ever more serious. They began with Israel’s “apartheid,” then charged Israel with being a “colonial-settler state,” and putting things up a notch, accused the IDF of being guilty of “war crimes,” until finally ending up with “Israel, the state that is committing genocide.” And that false charge of “genocide” has become the cause of the real deaths of innocent Jews. After Jews were murdered at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, a predictable response emerged from a familiar corner of the political and media ecosystem. Not grief. Not horror. Not moral clarity. Instead, a reflexive incantation: “Oh, but the genocide.”

It is not analysis. It is an alibi.

Across social media, posts circulated insisting that the massacre must be understood — if not excused — because of alleged Israeli “genocide” in Gaza.

One widely shared graphic claimed that Gaza had suffered the equivalent of “42,500 Bondi terrorist attacks” or “212 September 11ths.” It also declares, in block letters over a grayscale image of a crowded mass of people, that “680,000 DEAD,” asserting — without evidence — that 380,000 of them were children under five….

This graphic multiplied by ten times the number of Gazans killed — 68,000 according to Hamas itself — and continued to lie by saying that 380,000 “were children under five.” In fact, the total number of Gazan non-combatants who died as a result of the war can be calculated as follows:

Of the 68,000 reported dead by Hamas, at least 26,000 were the terror group’s combatants, according to the IDF. Of the 42,000 remaining, historically 800 people die in Gaza each month from accidents and disease. That means that during the 26 months of war (before the ceasefire was declared), 26 x 800, or 20,800 people in Gaza, died from non-combat related causes. And that, in turn, means that 21,200 civilians in Gaza died from the fighting. How many of these were children under five? Not 380,000. Not 38,000. Perhaps 20% of that figure of 21,200, or roughly 4,240 children in Gaza are under five. But those flinging the charge of “genocide” at Israel, and claiming without the slightest evidence that tens or even hundreds of thousands of those killed were children under the age of five, don’t care about facts.

How many people, do you think, all over this giddy globe, merely by dint of repetition in the media and on social media, now believe that Israel has been committing “genocide” in Gaza? How many have bothered to investigate the actual number of civilians killed in Gaza as a result of combat? How many have recognized that the essential element for the charge of “genocide” to stick is the presence of “intent”? How many people denouncing Israel for “genocide” are deliberately ignoring the fact that there has been no such intent by the IDF, which has made a tremendous effort, by dropping millions of leaflets, sending millions of text messages, and making millions of robocalls, to warn civilians away from neighborhoods and buildings soon to be targeted? How many know that the IDF has been facilitating the vaccination of children in Gaza? Or that the Israelis have transported children with serious conditions out of Gaza to hospitals elsewhere, where their conditions can be best treated? How many know that there is not a “famine” in Gaza? How many know that Israel has facilitated the entry into Gaza of 1.5 million tons of humanitarian aid — mainly food and medicine? Does any of that suggest that Israel has ever had the “intent” to commit genocide?

Who knows the answer to that? You know the answer to that.
