Pope Leo’s Christmas Homilies Lean Leftward

In his two Christmas homilies, Pope Leo showed himself more concerned with the suffering of Muslims in Gaza than with the Christians now being persecuted and murdered by Muslims across much of the world. He stood firmly with immigrants everywhere, decrying the enforcement of immigration laws. He also attacked capitalism, which in his view leads only to exploitation of workers. Pope Leo, in his two Christmas homilies during the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day masses and his Christmas message from the balcony above St. Peter’s Square, showed himself to be unusually focused on Gaza. He seemed more exercised by the plight of Ukrainians and (Muslim) Gazans than by the mass slaughter and oppression of Christians across the Middle East and Africa. He also found time to attack immigration enforcement and capitalism. I know that, being Jewish, I’m the ultimate outsider, so I devoutly hope I’m not offending anyone here, but the whole thing struck me as a weirdly political way to welcome in the Christmas season.

Leo’s odd messages began with the Christmas Eve mass, when he attacked capitalism:

While a distorted economy leads us to treat human beings as mere merchandise, God becomes like us, revealing the infinite dignity of every person.

Yes, capitalism can be abused, but he’s got the whole thing bass-ackwards. It’s in Marxist economies where people are simply widgets of the state, forced to work at its command.
In a truly capitalist economy, one in which the state acts to prevent fraud and other criminal acts, individuals strive for themselves and, along the way, enrich others. There’s a reason that the wealth of the world—a world in which almost all people had once lived in abject poverty—skyrocketed when capitalism finally took hold.

By the next day—the Christmas Day homily—the Pope lost his focus on Christ’s birth and his ministry on Earth. Instead, he directed a lot of energy to Gaza:

Dear brothers and sisters, since the Word was made flesh, humanity now speaks, crying out with God’s own desire to encounter us. The Word has pitched his fragile tent among us. How, then, can we not think of the tents in Gaza, exposed for weeks to rain, wind and cold…

Is it just me, or is it peculiar that the Pope—the head of the world’s largest Christian denomination—would include in his homily poetic tears for the Muslims in Gaza, and not mention the slaughter of thousands of Christians across the Middle East and Africa? (Incidentally, Muslims in Africa are also slaughtering their co-religionists, if they’re the wrong type of Muslim.) And of course, there’s the now-routine slaughter of Christians in Muslim Middle Eastern countries.

It also strikes me as a complete lapse into moral relativism, something the Church once stood against, that the Pope seems unconcerned with what led to Gaza’s destruction: Namely, the genocidal October 7 attack on Israel, followed by the Gaza population’s wholehearted support for Hamas to wage war, rather than to return the hostages and disarm. But again, I’m Jewish, so maybe my bewilderment is unique to me.

The Pope’s intense focus on Gaza continued in his later speech on the same day from St. Peter’s balcony. This time, he threw in the (Muslim) Yemenis for good measure:

In becoming man, Jesus took upon himself our fragility, identifying with each one of us: with those who have nothing left and have lost everything, like the inhabitants of Gaza; with those who are prey to hunger and poverty, like the Yemeni people…

The people of Gaza have not “lost everything.” They are now receiving billions of dollars in humanitarian aid. So far, 1.5 million tons of such aid — primarily food and medicine — has been delivered to Gaza. They are being promised, by Washington, a plan to remove all the rubble and to rebuild the infrastructure of the Strip at a cost of $112 billion, all of it to be provided by foreign donors.

Furthermore, the Gazans are not innocent victims; hundreds of civilians in Gaza joined Hamas on October 7, 2023, and took part in the atrocities; others enthusiastically beat the Israelis as they were being brought on pick-up trucks and motorcycles back into Gaza. And let’s not forget that almost all Gazans applauded those attacks — the gang-rapes, tortures, mutilations, and murders of Israelis.

  1. Thankfully, God did not “become like us.” Jesus became a Man and showed us the way to be. He set the perfect example and encouraged His disciples to ‘follow Him.’

    the ‘pope’ is a false shepherd, wolf in very transparent sheep’s clothing, a viper, a dirty cup and a whitewashed grave. He is bind to the Truth and he gleefully leads others toward the pit.
    He is working to help muzzies….but only in a temporary way, as he doesn’t tell any of them how wrong they are in everything they do.
    He speaks lies and when it comes to money, he lives off the work of others. Likely, he has a portfolio with a subheading labeled, “capital gains.”

    The pope is a fraud, and is spiritually dead, spreading spiritual darkness.

    • At one time there were two Popes because of conflicting ideologies. This Pope Leo does not represent the world’s Catholics. Perhaps the archdiocese of the world should nominate a new Pope that will keep the traditions of Catholicism and have a papacy that will make Catholics first priority.

  2. The average Gazan is actually worse than Hamas. This was demonstrated when the first Israeli hostages were being released, and Hamas fighters had to shield them from the public, that was publicly jeering them. In fact, that act made Israel change the conditions under which the hostages were to be released

  3. Catholics who think for themselves can see through Leo. He is a joke. You might as well remove his cleric garb while handing him and his cronies signs showing support for Marxist ideology and Islam. To him others be damned: Christians, Catholics, Jews, Hindus et all! According to the Prophecy of Popes by St Malachy (16th century) The final pope, “Peter the Roman,” is prophesied to lead the Church through “many tribulations,” followed by the destruction of Rome and the Last Judgment. While Francis started it; Leo is on his way to finishing it.

    LIBERATION THEOLOGY DOCTRINE, which is both but Marxism disguised as Christianity (this movement was very popular in Third World countries throughout the 70s and 80s)

    • Yeah, why can’t Christmas simply be about Christ and his birth, w/o touching on the geopolitical aspects of where he was born?

  7. It seems like I’ve found friends on here finally. The last poster wanted to argue and fight to protect this criminal Muslim pope.

    Go research much deeper and you will be alarmed at what is happening and what is coming. Your donations to the church are being given to Muslims in mass, world wide.

    Can someone please tell me which Muslim charities help Christians? None. But these fools prefer them over Christians, and he backs Hamas and Iran and China.

    • King Charles, you mean? Plenty of people think that he’s a closet convert to islam. This is the man who said that he wants to be the “defender of faiths“, as opposed to “the faith” – the faith in question being the Anglican Church

      In any case, he’s battling late stage cancer, and looks like William has been trying to take over the reins. From a religious standpoint, don’t know the effect, since William is an agnostic for whom Church of England work is the least interesting aspect of his activities

      • Just posted the link because of what the writer wrote and what, at the end, the quote of what charlie had to say. He didn’t focus on muzzies and he had films of Jews being attacked, to illustrate the “wrongs” being done.

I think that the evil, vicious nature of islam and the danger evil Muslims now pose to all our societies because these Muslim scum have been allowed into our societies means that I have nothing but contempt for the fools like this pope, politicians and all other fools who believe in being nice towards Muslims. Islam is evil and rotten to the core and deserves to be smashed. Gazans are evil Muslim barbarians. This pope is a bloody idiots. We need another crusade against Islam before it is too late.

  12. If this Pope truly wants to help the people of Gaza he should set the example and open the doors and bring them into the Vatican. Once they are there he can feed and house them, clean up after them and enjoy their friendship and feel their love first hand.
