On the plane returning him to Rome after his trip to Lebanon, Pope Leo XIV called on Tuesday for “working together” to make possible “dialogue and friendship between Muslims and Christians.”

Pope Leo XIV called on Tuesday, December 2, on Catholics concerned about the Christian dimension of the West to be “less afraid” of Islam, advocating for “living together” and “friendship” between Christians and Muslims in Europe. Asked about the fact that some Catholics see Islam as a threat to the Christian identity of the West, the American Pope acknowledged the existence of “fears” in Europe during a press conference aboard the plane returning him from Beirut to Rome.

Drawing on the testimonies heard during his visit to Lebanon—a multi-confessional country where Muslims and Christians coexist—the Pope encouraged people to draw inspiration from it “in Europe or North America.”

“Perhaps we should be a little less fearful and look for ways to promote authentic dialogue and respect,” he added. “I know that, in practice, this has not always been the case.” “I know that fears persist in Europe,” said Leon.

These fears are “often fueled by people opposed to immigration who seek to exclude those who come from another country, another religion, or another ethnic background,” he added.

In light of this, he called for “working together” to make possible “dialogue and friendship between Muslims and Christians.”

“I think that one of the great lessons that Lebanon can offer the world is to show a country where Islam and Christianity are present and respected, and where it is possible to live together, to be friends,” he added….

    • There is only one way to deal with Islam: zero tolerance. It is supremacist religion that seeks to destroy its enemies, the Jews and the infidels (non-Muslims). Lebanon is a perfect example of a middle eastern country destroyed after it allowed Islamic Palestinians in. It brought civil war and made the majority Christian country Islamic. It is still rife with problems and poor today. They cannot live in peace in the west because they turn cities and towns into Islamic backwaters and shitholes that resemble what they left behind and treat women like chattel.   5. When wife was in Africa doing humanitarian work, under a Christian framework , the aid was taken by Muslim, and it was all known by the Catholic groups involved.

    The Christian’s got almost nothing, and what they did, was taken by Muslims and sold to Christian’s. Imagine how disillusioned the workers became after witnessing this….

    More. When Christian groups here, they PREFER Muslim migrants for all the aid. Like Lutheran services, Catholic charities, she knows them all. They flood us with our own charity money.

    • Time to trim the privileges that religious organizations get. They don’t get to advocate or sponsor for things like more immigration. All they get to do is ask for privileges/rights specific to their faith (like religious exemptions for vaccinations)

Many Protestant sects proved themselves highly intolerant as well but, as gravenimage has already pointed out, the era of Catholics killing Protestants and vice versa was fairly brief (about a hundred and fifty years) but Muslims killing other Muslims has been an ongoing occurrence for some 1400 years.

        Besides, the Christian theological blueprint does not authorize killing in the name of Christianity, contra the Islamic theological blueprint. When Christians have done so they were violating the tenets of their faith as opposed to the deluded followers of the other religion I mentioned. Huge difference.

        I wasn’t comparing the Catholic church w/ islam. I was just contrasting one extreme of that sect in the Middle Ages w/ what it does today. Graven noted that it did briefly find the sweet spot in b/w: it would have done well to have codified that so that they didn’t to the other way into what they are today

    • The Church is not “extinct”, but it is headless. Francis appointed and promoted homosexuals and masons. I sure that it was not an accident. But that corruption has not extended all the way to the parishes, yet. One of the appointed homosexual masons (can’t prove it) was Leo who might as well be Francis II. Leo appoints and promotes the same corruption.

      The teachings of the Church are not random as many suppose. They are a consensus of holy men and women who knew Christ. The Church knows when a person is holy, by what they say and do (the “fruits” in the words of our Lord). By that measure, we can be sure that neither Francis nor Leo know Jesus.

      Saint Francis of Assisi predicted that a pope who was not canonically elected (Francis was not elected in proper fashion because Benedict only resigned half the duties of a pope which is clearly not legal, but we’ll leave that for another day) would destroy the Church at the end of the world. Pope Francis destroyed the Church by promoting the Church’s enemies to the top positions.

      It is my opinion that God allows this, because the Church is like a placenta which protects the developing fetus until just before birth. Then the placenta lets evil exist in the amniotic sac to strengthen the immune system of the fetus. You are starting to display that immunity, but the teachings of Christ should never be abandoned.

      • Africon, there is innocent honest ignorance–everyone suffers from this in some fields. For instance, I know very little about aircraft maintenance–but I could certainly learn if this became important to me, and I am not in denial over any aspect of this.

How can we not understand that unless we demand that that statement and a hundred others that reflect just that utter dismissal of any equality of human beings in the quran, in Islam means that it is not possible to live as ‘friends. But Psalms 24vs1 and Psalms 50 verse 12 tell us that God owns the world, so he did as he pleased for Abraham his friend. From this, what I understand is that God will accept anybody according as it’s written in Acts 10 verses 34-35: God is no respecter of persons.
    Any land conquered by they (ISLAM) will also be justified through faith whether the previous inhabitants worshipped him or don’t. In fact, it’s because they don’t truly worshipped him will they fall to their enemies. Just as He will not judge us by every animal we’d kill and eating, so also, he will not judge they (the aggressors) by their conquest (against the conquered) but by their faith in Him.
    So Dear Pope, before you go opening your doors to ISLAM and JIHADIS ask yourself how much of the gospel of the kingdom of God have you spread among your people? How is their Christian faith and works of the gospel. What is their fire level. Because if you are flowing after politicians and their material influence towards you or your parish, they’d ALL pass away fast when the reality is dawned on you and many have been swept up in your deception. Then there will be no turning back. And you’d be living as your predecessors the Pharisees and Scribes in the Bible.

    And his statements contradict the very teachings of the Catholic Church: peoples have the right to preserve their countries and choose their immigration, and even to refuse it if it is harmful to them. However, we are not even dealing with immigration, but with conquering Muslim countries that are using immigration as a weapon against us. This is a case of war. And the Church also authorizes self-defense as a just war.

Pope Leo’s pronouncements remind me of Reginald Denny’s naive worldview following his beating in the streets of Los Angeles in ’91’ during the riots there, but Reginald Denny had an excuse for his naivete — he suffered irremediable brain damage at the hands of his attackers (one of whom struck him on the head w/a concrete block or brick).
