Indonesia: As police look on, Muslims screaming ‘Allahu akbar’ block Christians from attending Christmas service

This is the vaunted Islamic tolerance of a foremost “moderate” Muslim country.

“Muslims Block Christians from Celebrating Christmas in Indonesia,” Morning Star News, December 23, 2025:

SURABAYA, Indonesia (Morning Star News) – As police looked on, Muslims in West Java Province, Indonesia on Dec. 14 formed a human wall to block Christians from attending a Christmas service, according to local media.

Muslims from outside Jayasampurna village, Serang Baru Sub-District, Bekasi Regency near Jakarta blocked the congregation of the Huria Kristen Batak Protestant Church (Huria Kristen Batak Protestant, HKBP) from celebrating Christmas at a prayer post near the Green Cikarang housing complex.

Videos on social media show dozens of police officers and onlookers watching dozens of Muslim men and women holding hands to form the human chain, make anti-Christian comments and shout the jihadist slogan “Allahu Akbar [God is Greatest).” The Muslims held back and pushed members of the church as they struggled to make their way to prayer post for Christmas services.

“We only want to worship peacefully – we have no intention of disturbing anyone,” a Christian says in one video.

One of the protestors’ banners reads, “We, the Muslim residents of Jayasempurna village, firmly reject the construction of illegal houses in our neighborhood forever,” another video shows.

Muslims from outside the area also blocked the Christians from worship on the two prior Sundays, Dec. 7 and Nov. 30, according to harianterbit.com, which reported the church had used the site for worship for seven years.

Local authorities held a mediation meeting between the conflicting parties on Dec. 15 overseen by the Regent of Bekasi. The parties agreed that the HKBP congregation would hold services temporarily at the Interfaith Harmony Forum office in the city of Jababeka, harianterbit.com reported.

On Thursday (Dec. 18), the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs held a mediation meeting between the two parties, resulting in eight agreements, the official Indonesian news agency Antara reported. The conflicting parties agreed to forgive each other and resolve all permit processes for construction of prayer posts, and the Ministry of Religion agreed to help the church celebrate Christmas….

    • Allah akbar means Allah is greater; greater than what is not defined but is understood as greater than your god.

        • The pope pretends to sit in place of the Apostle Peter. When Peter was asked for money, he said all he had to give was the “good news about Christ.”

          When Jesus spoke to His apostles and disciples, He told them about the Kingdom, over and over again. And when He taught them how to pray, He again spoke about God’s Kingdom and about God doing His will on earth.

          I know you know this, but if the pope really sat in for Peter, and Jesus had told Peter, “Feed my little sheep,” the pope should be, and would be if he really was what he claims, talking about God’s Kingdom. He should be “feeding the sheep.”

          Instead, he talks about Christians being obligated to make potential thieves, rapists and murderers welcome. And I write “potential” because every adherent of islime is a potential terrorist, rapist, murderer.
          Many Christians depend on him and others in different denominations to instruct, encourage, teach and set an example in pleasing God.
          They all know this; but instead of doing what they have promised God they would do, they ‘preach something other than Christ,’ and as the Apostle John wrote, Christians should not allow them inside their homes.

  5. Christians in Indonesia need to do what people in East Timor did years ago, and start an insurrection to secede from Jakarta. Bali needs to as well. muslim Indonesia should just be Sumantra, Java and Borneo/Kalimantan

  8. Yes it is sad to see the homeless and people suffering from war and violence. As Christians we should feel an obligation to heal and take care of our fellow man. Christians for the most part are generous and have many organized efforts to help the needy.

    So where are the great muslim/islamic efforts to do the same. No they steal the aid Christians send to help the needy. Where is this supposed great Islamic religion feeding and housing the homeless?

    Muslims and Islam are the first in line to help themselves to the charity of Christians and others even when they are in a position to take care of these;ves.

    Islam the supposed great religion seems to know and promote only violence snd death to others NOT HELP.

    Indonesian authorities enabling Jihadists preventing Christians from peacefully worshipping on Christmas? I just wish I could be shocked by this.
