The madness in Washington continues. Now we learn that the Trump administration foresees a glorious future for Gaza, which will become both a Club Mediterranée tourist destination and a high-tech hub. The Trump administration is pitching “Project Sunrise,” a plan that will reportedly rebuild the Gaza Strip into a “futuristic coastal destination,” according to a Friday report by the Wall Street Journal.
It noted that US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, along with US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and two other White House aides, drafted a proposal comprising 32 PowerPoint slides to transform Gaza.
The presentation, depicted as “sensitive but unclassified,” was shown to Turkey, Egypt, and several investors and wealthy Gulf kingdoms, according to the report.
This reconstruction would cost $112.1 billion over 10 years, according to the WSJ, which cited the draft proposal. The US would provide $60b. in grants, with the plan stating that Gaza would eventually be able to self-fund many projects.
The WSJ also notes that the presentation doesn’t specify which countries or companies would fund the reconstruction, nor where Gaza’s residents would live during the rebuilding. This has caused some US officials to express doubt about the plan, with some saying that Hamas will refuse to disarm in the first place.
The proposal was developed over 45 days, with Kushner and Witkoff enlisting the help of senior White House aide Josh Gruenbaum.
Officials cited by the WSJ said that if the project goes through, they plan to “update and revise the numbers about every two years as it unfolds.”
Kushner and Witkoff had previously met with Egyptian, Turkish, and Qatari officials in Miami to discuss developments in Gaza before the two US officials delivered their presentation….
Here are some questions that need to be answered:
First, since Hamas refuses to disarm, how does the administration hope to start removing the vast amounts of rubble when the war in Gaza shows no signs of ending, despite the temporary, and most fragile, ceasefire?
Second, who will deal with the hundreds of miles of tunnels that the IDF still has yet to destroy or in some cases, has not yet discovered?
Third, how can one expect the largely uneducated Gazans to be able to suddenly acquire enough training to participate in a “high-tech” economy? Since not a single Arab country has been able to create such a high-tech economy — the oil-rich states of the Gulf depend on Western expats to run their economies — why should Gaza be different? The mass of the population is at a primitive state of development. Children in Gaza have been out of school ever since the war began; UNRWA-run schools devote much of their day not to learning but to anti-Israel propaganda. The average I.Q. of Palestinians is 83.3, far below the average of 100 in the Western world, and much below that in Israel. The average IQ score of Ashkenazi Jews in Israel falls in a range of 108–115, which is significantly higher than that of any other ethnic group in the world. But Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff see Gazans as able to participate in a “high tech” economy. No: what they will be able to manage, at best, is the manufacture of textiles and toys.

The plan apparently calls for the American government to provide $60 billion of the total projected cost of $112.1 billion. This is infuriating. Not a single dollar should come from the American government — that is, American taxpayers — for the reconstruction of Gaza. We owe the people of Gaza nothing. They started the war that Israel did not want, and did not start. Let the rich Arab states, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait, that have sovereign wealth funds of more than one trillion dollars apiece — pay for whatever their fellow Muslim Arabs in Gaza require. Much of the cost of removing the rubble and rebuilding the infrastructure should be borne by the malevolent state that financed and armed Hamas — Qatar. The USA has spent huge sums to improve the lot of two Muslim countries, and should not be asked to pony up stil more money to set Gaza aright. The six trillion dollars we spent, vainly trying to bring Western-style democracy and a modicum of prosperity, to two Muslim countries, Afghanistan and Iraq, have been quite enough. We’ve done our bit. From now on, let Muslims support Muslims.

Anything requires maintenence and that requires money and work – not a normal function for a conquer-take-booty mindset. Build it and they will destroy it, more slowly, yet as effectively as the businesses Israel left behind in Gaza when giving Palestinians an exclusive region.

Good farmers know that if they want to keep their land productive, letting sections go fallow in a crop rotation is necessary. Perhaps it’s time to let the land that is Gaza go fallow for a while. Weeds and wildflowers will grow, birds, bees and other insects will move in. And none of those will be threatening nor murdering the Jews.

Unfortunately, some Israeli politicians had the same brilliant idea. They put tens of thousands of Gazans to work in Israel to improve the lives of Gazans. What did they get in return? Some of these workers drew up detailed plans for their Hamas compatriots of where everything and everyone would be located during an attack.
