Many concerning issues arise when considering the Islamic concept of halal. Halal is an Arabic term meaning permissible. Therefore, halal refers to practices that Muslims are allowed to partake in, according to Islamic theology and law. Conversely, haram is the Islamic term referring to that which is forbidden to Muslims.
Many activities considered to be halal are deemed to be illegal in secular societies. These crimes include, but are not limited to, the crimes of slavery, sex slavery, wife beating, the killing of Muslim apostates, and pedophilia. For a more thorough examination of crimes considered to be permissible in Islam, see my previous six-part series of articles found here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, and Part 6. Before addressing the evils that are undeniably part and parcel of Islamic theology and law, let us first briefly consider the negative aspects of halal as they relate to the food industry.
In non-Islamic lands, we are seeing a notable increase in Muslim-owned grocery stores, restaurants and specialty butcheries, etc. The cruelty of slaughtering animals in accordance with halal standards is well documented, along with the fact that Muslim-owned meat processing plants tend to prioritize the hiring of Muslim immigrants, so as to increase the Muslim population within non-Islamic lands. In short, halal slaughter traditionally requires an animal to be killed through a specific method (the slitting of the animal’s throat while Islamic prayers are recited) that typically does not involve the pre-stunning of the animal. Critics argue that slaughter without stunning is inhumane, raising concerns among animal welfare advocates. Furthermore, supporting halal butcheries and Islamic-owned businesses inevitably leads to the further spread of certain troublesome Islamic practices such as those mentioned above.
The remainder of this article will examine the concept of halal being applied more broadly, and examine why this reality is highly problematic. It is highly problematic if non-Islamic societies permit certain troublesome Islamic behaviors to be performed — behaviors such as child marriage, multiple marriages, gender-bias inheritance rules, the jihad imperative, etc. Numerous severe legal and social problems inevitably manifest if these behaviors are allowed to occur.
A good way of further understanding the concept of halal is to consider the many personal realms of life that it regulates. Arguably, the most problematic aspect of halal is the category of personal conduct. Tragically, the concept of halal gives Muslims permission to commit crimes that are considered by the civilized world to be grossly uncivilized.
Speaking as a former Muslim living with the realities of Islam’s formal and informal death penalty for apostasy, my conscience will not permit me to purchase halal products. After all, how could ex-Muslims such as I be expecting to support a religious system that calls for our deaths for no other “crime” than simply choosing to leave it? In truth, all persons of conscience ought to boycott all halal products for the reasons put forth in this article.
Some people may jump to the conclusion that boycotting all halal products is an extreme and cruel proposition. I dare to disagree, and insist that it is both reasonable and justifiable to do so. Islam is undoubtedly philosophically and morally rotten to the core, and the sooner that Muslims walk away from it, the better off we all will be.
Certainly there are peaceful Muslims who do not act upon Islam’s many inhumane teachings. Yet sadly a large number of them will do so, because the Islamic texts give them permission to do so. Therein lies the rub.
When examining regions of the non-Islamic world where Muslims are large in number, we observe that Muslims tend to exploit the modern welfare state and cause all manner of social and legal problems in their quest to overtake these societies and turn them into Islamic lands governed by the Sharia.
The no-go zones throughout Europe that have evolved over recent decades should be a wakeup call for all free nations. Sweden, France, Germany, the UK and others are now literally teetering on the brink of social and financial collapse due to the influx of Muslim migrants and other mismanagements.
Here are statistics from 2011 on no-go zones in Europe. The situation has gotten much worse since then. If these trends are not reversed the future will not lead to peaceful and positive outcomes.

Islam, its Organizations, its Mosques, its Schools, etc. must be banned as illegal for their funding, teaching, and promoting acts of discrimination, segregation, violence, and terrorism against Non-Muslims as taught in Islam’s Qur’an.
Muslims make false claims and deceitful exaggerations, breed a grievance mentality, and aggravate divisions among people in a manner that allows for justification of terroristic violence(Qur’an 3:28,54; 7:99; 8:30, etc.). Allah in Qur’an 49:15 says, “Surely the believers[Muslims] are only those who believed in Allah and his messenger. They do not doubt, and they performed jihad with their MONEY and their LIVES for the sake of Allah. Those are the truthful.” As a result, Non-Muslims are marked for death by Islam and its Muslims.
Allah describes Muslim women in Jenna, Allah’s Paradise, as whores by Allah in Qur’an 56:37. Also, Allah stirs hatred against Christians until the resurrection day when Qur’an 5:14 instructs, “And some of those who say, ‘Surely we are Nasara (Christians),’ we took their covenant. So they have forgotten a part of what they were reminded of, so we have stirred up ENMITY and HATRED among them until the resurrection day. And Allah will inform them of what they were doing.” See also Qur’an 60:4; 8:55.
Allah demands extortion payments, ‘Jizyah’, from Non-Muslims to humiliate them and make Islam supreme. Allah in Qur’an 9:29 commands, “Engage in war with those who do not believe in Allah nor in the last day. Nor forbid what Allah and his messenger forbid, nor believe in the religion of the truth among those who have given the book until they pay the jizyah out of hand and they are subdued.”
Allah teaches and promotes discrimination when Qur’an 4:101 says, “…Surely the infidels(Non-Muslims) were your clear enemies.” Allah disrespects and detests Jews and Christians for not being Muslims by teaching discrimination and segregation. So, Allah’s apostle in Sahih Muslim 26:5389 says, “Do not greet the Jews and the Christians before they greet you and when you meet any one of them on the roads force him to the narrowest part of it[where excrement and trash flow].”
MUSLIM BELIEVERS are a greater TERROR than Allah while undermining a society from within using the man-made book of lies and deceit, the Qur’an. Allah in Qur’an 59:13 says, “You[Muslims] are a greater terror in their chests than Allah. This is because they[Jews & Christians] are people who do not understand.” Islam must be banned as illegal, and we have the legal right to defend ourselves from Muslim attacks and violence.

How does a Muslim such as yourself feel about Western societies, specifically governments, that don’t give any consideration or support for the overt persecution and coercion you face from the Muslims living in your midst? Those governments ignore the evils of Islam, as if no Muslims or ex-Muslims feel themselves oppressed or need protection from the fundamentalists.

I note that Kosher slaughter does not allow stunning the animal, but the rules and practices are much stricter than Halal. A shochet (kosher slaughterer) requires special training to minimize pain to the animal, and the knife must be properly sharp with no nicks that could cause pain.
Requiring stunning would also ban kosher slaughter.
When we lived in Brookline, and it could support a Kosher butcher, he had a lot of Muslim customers, as kosher is stricter than halal – if meat is kosher, it is also halal, but not the other way.

I recall some Jewish posters here noting that they do need to stun an animal before a shibboleth slaughter. Anybody know what the practices are in Israel?

These methods are contrary to Jewish law, because an animal intended for food must be healthy and uninjured at the time of shechita.

Apparently some kind of war between two tribes resulted in Ephraimites being slaughtered and the other tribe figured out what tribe they belonged to by the pronunciation of Shibboleth. I don’t know the details, but it seems to have nothing to do with animal slaughter.

From what I understand, “Kosher” is the term used for generic approval in Jewish law, whereas “shibbolith” is the slaughter technique used by Jews. The animal is still killed in a way similar to halal, except that it’s not forbidden to stun it, from what I have been told

For an ideology that condemns “bida” (innovation), there is no greater example of bida than halal branding. Essentially, for a product to “gain” such a certification, there needs to be muslim handlers throughout the supply-chain of that product. That itself is a Western concept: last time I looked, Booz-Allen Hamilton was not an islamic company. But here they are, getting muslims employed into all types of businesses which hope to have a halal certification on their products, so that muslims buy it
Right now, the biggest problem w/ halal is that we non-muslims don’t go out of our way to boycott it. We need to, and that too in enough numbers that convince businesses that wanna do halal outreach to mohammedans that they’d lose more customers than they gain by going halal. Not only do I personally avoid halal meat: I avoid anything w/ halal branding. For instance, when I’m in Singapore, I try to have pork wherever I can, so that there is no way it can be halal. (Incidentally, a few days ago after breakfast at IHOP, I noticed on their whiteboard them introducing some halal offerings, including halal bacon. I just chuckled to myself on what that might be, since they’d have to explain to muslim customers that that halal bacon doesn’t include pork.
Put a price tag on businesses for going halal: that they’d lose more customers by going halal than by remaining conventional for everyone. Otherwise, halal will simply end up being the default, as it is in UK, Canada, France and other places outside dar ul islam

If you don’t want to eat halal meat, then start by avoiding meat from New Zealand. It’s nearly all halal but not labelled as such. Something which many will find abhorrent.
