UK government challenges quashing of conviction of man for burning Qur’an

Yes. Labour wants those Muslim votes, and appears willing, even eager, to establish Sharia blasphemy laws in order to get them.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is to appeal a Crown Court decision to overturn the conviction of a man who burned a Quran in protest.

Southwark Crown Court last month quashed the prosecution of Hamit Coskun, who was found guilty of a religiously aggravated public order offence in June.

In February Coskun, a Turkish national of Armenian and Kurdish heritage, burned a Quran outside the Turkish Consulate in London. He said his demonstration was a protest against the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for policies which he said are turning Turkey into a “base for radical Islamists”.

He was then attacked by two men, one armed with a knife.

Westminster Magistrates’ Court took the fact that Coskun was attacked as evidence that his conduct was ‘disorderly’….

The Magistrates’ Court found Coskun guilty of an offence under Section 5 of the Public Order Act which criminalises using words or behaving in a disorderly manner, or displaying material that is likely to harass, intimidate or distress others.

He was also found guilty under section 31(1)(c) of the Crime and Disorder Act 1998, which makes the public order offence “religiously aggravated”.

But the Crown Court said “the right to freedom of expression, if it is a right worth having, must include the right to express views that offend, shock or disturb”.

Highlighting that there is “no offence of blasphemy in our law”, the Court added that while many Muslims may find Quran-burning “desperately upsetting and offensive”, the criminal law is “not a mechanism that seeks to avoid people being upset, even grievously upset”.

In its appeal application to the High Court, the CPS said burning a Quran in public is “an obviously provocative act” and called it an “act of desecration”….

The CPS said Coskun’s case “will undoubtedly be relied upon in future public order cases involving inflammatory acts of desecration”.

“In short, the Applicant submits that its reach and importance cannot not be underestimated,” it said….

NSS chief executive, Stephen Evans, said: “This appeal marks a renewed assault on free expression by prosecutors.

“The CPS seems determined to establish a blasphemy law by the back door. Their approach effectively treats those who are targeted with violence for offending religious sensibilities as the wrongdoers. That is an alarming inversion of justice.

“If this stance is allowed to stand, extremists will be handed a veto over free expression, and the principle of equality under the law will be seriously undermined. The High Court must reject this dangerous attempt to police ‘offence’ on behalf of religion.”

  2. I am from actually across the big salty pond. We have this dangerous thing called freedom. Even though there are some limits on it (Such as yelling fire in a crowded theater where there is no fire), I can call Biden a moron, refer to Congress as a collection of pigs and rats and so on. Those in the UK gave up their rights for non existent security and now it comes down to this. If immigrants come .to your country, you need to make them assimilate and.integrate or kick them out. If your government takes their side against the UK rank and file, then it is ti me to revolt. Freedom is dangerous but tyranny is wrse.

  5. What is going on with the UK is a first hand look at how Islamic failed states have been created. Let’s hope notes are taken so it can be prevented in the future – before we crush the IslamoNaxis once and for all!

    And YES, Muslims participated in Hitler’s SS and other parts of the Nazi military. England hid those facts and instead of prosecuting them for war crimes – freed them and introduced all the Islamic terror groups TO EACH OTHER across the world that were unaware of each other.

    Why would they do this? Two reasons. First, they knew that Muslim nations were sitting on oil, and were soon to possess them, plus they were already thinking about the oil contracts and wanted to be “friendly “ with them.

    Second, they knew they would “wipe out the fledging state of Israel”. After all, what better way to appease Islam? This is according to Mitchell Bards book Myth and facts. The rest of this evidence is in a wide variety of other publications, plus AI. No one has connected the dots and seemingly have not wanted to offend Islam. This begs the question: Have we been living amongst Western leaders LAWS to NOT offend the Islamic criminals for the whole of the 20th century? It has become blatantly OBVIOUS now – at least to me! Think about it, is what’s happening to us now because the politicians have been catering, coddling, and protecting Islam? If this continues, will our children and grandchildren piece together the COWARDICE of us, all these decades, like I’m writing about what the world did in the 20th century?

    We must stop sugar coating Islam and their crimes throughout the world. Check the history of the Ottoman Empires crimes that they were never he’d responsible for, while Erdogan of Turkey continues his his theft of rest of the Greek Island. What does the world do? Nothing.

    So instead of walking into another Islamic conquest- this time it being us they are conquering; not some far away nation in Africa where Christians, Jew, and “others” are being mass murdered with machetes. Hasn’t the time to FIGHT them PAST DUE? And WHY do our media and platforms HINDER any expression by us? I’m unsure if this will even be posted to jihad watch, because our laws PROTECT THEM!

    What makes any of us think they won’t do what they’ve been doing in Nigeria, the DRC, and other nations in the African continent – to us?

    Are those African nations at a different level of the conquering?

    Are we in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Canada at stage 2 and they at stage 5? What about France and Germany? Are they at stage 3?

    WHO IS EFFING IN CHARGE of OUR LIVES AND FREEDOMS FROM ISLAM? We WANT TO KNOW and DEMAND someone STAND UP or WE WILL BE FORCED TO! It’s incredible to watch this and have EVERY WESTERN LEADER, INCLUDING TRUMP- do NOTHING but appease them AND SELL THEM WEAPONS for “DEALS!” No DEAL or APPEASEMENT WILL CHANGE them, and TRUMP and others have FALLEN FOR THE ISLAMIC LIE – like the rest have done for more than 1400+ years!

  6. When Coskun won his appeal I did say here on Jihadwatch that it would have little effect on police action.

    That the CPS even so seeks to overturn that result should come as a surprise – but it does not.

    There is no shame felt by this dhimmi Government in seeking always to appease it’s Islamic masters and voter base.

    I pray for justice to prevail but I will not hold my breath.

    The depths the UK Government will sink to knows no bounds. Lies, deceit and corruption and distortion of every thing decent. Such things they have learnt from their imported controllers.

  7. This labour government is slowly but surely destroying the UK, you can be certain to overturn this crown court decision came right from the top. They don’t call him two tier Keir for nothing, he puts muslims before native Brits every time. Illegal migration is now at the highest it’s ever been. Starmer and his cronies are not just putting the illegals in luxurious hotels they are now putting them in luxurious houses, which only encourages more to come. Starmer proudly calls himself a socialist, but he’s not, he’s a communist. Free speech is being taken away from us, as Britain can now boast the highest arrest for online comments than any other country in the world. It was also announced today that they will be abolishing jury’s for certain cases in the crown court. Yes, it may be just certain cases at the moment, but Starmer’s true ambition is to have complete and utter control over all of us.

  9. Vielleicht zeigt sich das Problem der Überbevölkerung gerade in der hilflosen Handhabe der westlichen Politiker, den Überschuss an jungen Männern durch Masseneinwanderung in ihre überalterten Gesellschaften irgendwie in den Griff zu bekommen.
    Eine abnehmende Bevölkerung war nie das Problem, die Überalterung schon.
    Welche Perspektive haben all die Millionen von jungen Männern aus muslimischen und afrikanischen Staaten? Terrorismus grassiert gerade da, wo das “Menschenmaterial” für Kriege im Überfluss vorhanden ist.
    Ich kann jeden verstehen, der, wenn er in der Heimat keine Perspektive auf ein sinnvoll gestaltetes Leben hat, sein Glück in der Fremde sucht.
    Die langfristigen Folgen dieser großangelegten geostrategischen Neuordnung der Welt, sind schwer abschätzbar.
    Die KI wird das Problem des Nichtgebrauchtwerdens eines großen Teils der Menschen noch verschärfen.
