Toronto Mayor Chow Taken to Task for Her Claim About ‘Genocide’ in Gaza

Olivia Chow, who managed in a close race to squeeze out a victory to become the mayor of Toronto, has turned out to be a disaster for Canada’s largest city,, and there is no possibility she will be re-elected. Now a Jewish group is challenging her for her claim that Israel is committing “genocide” in Gaza. It’s about time someone took up the gauntlet that those who make this nauseating charge have thrown down. And Mayor Chow is just the person to go after. Tafsik, a Canadian Jewish civil rights group, has filed a Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) case against Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow over comments she made about a genocide in Gaza.

The HRTO resolves claims of discrimination and harassment under the Human Rights Code.

During a speech at the National Council of Canadian Muslims fundraising gala at the Pearson Convention Center on November 1, Chow said, “The genocide in Gaza impacts us all [sic].” She went on to compare Israel’s response to Hamas’s attacks to Japan’s invasion of China in WWII.

“This is false and harmful,” wrote Tafsik. “Expert and military assessments show no intent to target civilians; extensive measures are taken to minimize harm in urban warfare. Even Hamas’s own figures suggest a near 1:1 combatant-to-civilian ratio; Gaza’s population has grown since before October 7, 2023.”

Tafsik said it will present evidence and seek accountability for her actions. “Those three words were a slap in the face to Jews in Toronto, across Canada, and around the world, an unforgivable betrayal, and a disgraceful distortion of reality,” added Tafsik Executive Director Amir Epstein.

He went on to call for Chow to be “formally excommunicated and permanently rejected by the Jewish community and all Jewish organizations.”…

Genocide requires intent. There has been no evidence that the IDF has intended to harm civilians. In fact, it has made tremendous efforts, by dropping millions of leaflets, sending millions of text messages, and making millions of robocalls, to warn civilians in Gaza away from areas and buildings that are about to be targeted. As West Point Professor John Spencer has written, “Israel has done more and implemented more measures to prevent civilian harm than any military in the history of urban warfare.”

Let’s look at that key metric to determine whether there is too much wanton killing of civilians: the civilian-to-combatant ratio. The UN has concluded that in all the wars fought since 1945, the average civilian-to-combatant ratio has been 9:1. In Afghanistan, the Americans reduced that ratio to 4:1, and in Iraq to 3:1. But in Gaza, the Israelis have brought that ratio down to an unheard-of 1:1.

To understand this, let’s do the math. There are 2.2 million people in Gaza. According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, 58,000 people have died in Gaza since the beginning of the war. According to the IDF, 26,000 Hamas combatants have been killed. Before the war, the monthly average of Gazans who died from accidents and disease was 800. In the 26 months since the war began, 20,800 people have died from non-combat related causes.

Of the 68,000 dead, take away 26,000 Hamas combatants. That leaves 42,000 deaths of non-combatants. Now subtract from that number the 20,800 who died from accidents and diseases: 42,000-20,800 equals 21,200, the number of civilians who died because of the war. The civilian-to-combatant death ratio can now be calculated: 21,200: 26,000, which is less than 1:1. No other army in recorded history has managed to have such a low civilian to combatant ratio. Yet Mayor Olivia Chow of Toronto insists that Israel is guilty of “genocide.”

Let Olivia Chow explain why she thinks Israel is guilty of “genocide.” Tell us, Madame Mayor, what has the IDF done to demonstrate a clear intent to commit “genocide.” Explain to us why you think the IDF spends so much time and effort trying to warn Gaza civilians away from places soon to be targeted. Tell us what you think of the civilian-to-combatant ratio of less than 1:1 that the IDF has managed to achieve, a ratio no other army has yet attained. And tell us whether you think that the word “genocide” might more accurately be applied to Hamas, which in its charter calls for the annihilation of the Jewish state and the dispersal, or death, of all of its Jewish citizens.

  1. The much bigger problem here, Toronto specifically aside, is that Canada as a whole, traditionally one of the freest and greatest nations on Earth, is no longer this. Canada has presently gone into full stupid mode and it may be a “mode” from which extraction is not possible.

    Canada has become yet another Western nation that is in the process of engaging in national suicide for the unholy trinity in our era which is 1) Islam; 2) willful ignorance of Islam by dhimmis aplenty; and 3) Western Leftism, which, the last, has taken over the Democratic Party in America, clearly so, and in so many other traditional Western parties in sundry Western nations, including those parties which remain nominally conservative.

    The West is dying. One knows this or should know it. This fool of a mayor of Toronto is dispositive of this.

    Perhaps it is too late. I hope not but I fear that those like Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, Pope Benedict XVI and Donald Trump are fighting noble but ultimately failing struggles in order to preserve the greatest civilization of all time, i.e., the West. Time will tell but I am not optimistic. Still, better to go down fighting than to give up. Yes, always the better respecting these two options. Besides, the best of the West might actually win out in the end. Maybe. Might.

    • Canada and the United States of America are worth fighting for. We owe that to our forefathers and our children and grand children. Personally I don’t want to kill anyone, harm anyone or interfere in anyone else’s life. But if I or my family, country and property are threatened I will stand up and fight.

      We can NOT allow Islam to take over our countries and our future.

  2. If the Israelis were committing genocide in Gaza there would be no Gazans left there. The Israelis are very efficient at anything they do. Case in point: the pagers they had rerouted their security people and had them packed with explosives and sat them all off at the same time. This is another case of antisemitism and this woman should be kicked out of office. The Israelis have proved that no one is untouchable to them.

  4. Chow was born in British Hong Kong to a school teacher and school superintendent but she obviously has trouble figuring out the truth that is right in front of her face. Well it is good to know that it is not just clueless Westerners that are falling for the Gaza BS.

    • Canada’s / WEF’s climate clown placed prime Minister, Mark Carney, said he would arrest Netanyahu if he came to Canada. But he also allows doctors to recommend the MAID program to veterans and mutilate children. Allows glyphosate to be sprayed in forests and allowed some “mighty” Canadian sharpshooters to kill the 400 ostriches on a farm in BC – don’t cha know the science —they did it to protect us. I imagine next the corporate regime will use fear to get the “useless, little eaters” to get the bird flu vaccine to “protect us”. May useful idiots adore him.

      • How did we end up with so many incredibly stupid white guys in positions of power? Those types of white guys should have been hard to find to begin with. As a white guy I consider them to be embarrassing.
