We have all read a lot about the atrocities that Hamas carried out on October 7, 2023. We know about the families tied together with wire and then burned alive, about the babies decapitated or strangled, about the girls raped and as they were being raped, were stabbed to death, about the women whose breasts were sliced off before they were killed, about the men whose genitalia were cut off, about both men and women who had their eyes gouged out, again while they were still alive, and much much more in that ghastly vein. We’ve heard less about how the Israelis kidnapped by Hamas were treated, except to be told, in laconic fashion, that they were starved, subject to sexual abuse, beaten, and held for months on end in dark tunnels. One of the twenty hostages released in the latest hostage-for-prisoner exchange is Rom Braslavski, who has provided a detailed description of his ordeal. The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) tortured and beat him not because of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, but because he was a Jew, former hostage Rom Braslavski said in an interview with Hazinor, published on Channel 13 Thursday night.
“It’s wrong to say that they tortured me because Ben-Gvir is provoking them in prisons,” Braslavski said, recalling the words of one of his captors. “They only tortured me for one reason, because I am a Jew. This is why I got everything I got. Not because of Ben-Gvir, not because of Netanyahu, nothing else.”
Braslavski’s captors significantly worsened his situation in March 2025, after the second ceasefire deal concluded. At that point, Braslavski said that more of the family members of the terrorists were being killed.
His captor told him at that point that if he converted to Islam, he would be given a lot of food, and nobody would touch him. Braslavski refused. “I knew in my head that it would never happen. I told [the terrorist], I was born a Jew, I will die a Jew.”
“I remember I had the courage to tell them, ‘I’m not crying from hunger, I’m crying from what you are doing to me here.’ I told him this sentence, then I was beaten again. But it was important for me to say it. I told him, ‘Maybe you think it’s just me and you here, and nobody sees us, but God sees me here, how I’m being tortured by you, and he sees you, how you torture me.’ I told him it will not pass quietly. ‘God will rip you apart. Wait for God’s response, and you will see what will happen to you.'”
After he said this, the terrorist became angry. He put the stones back in Braslavski’s ears and the blindfold back on. He called Muhammad, his brother, and “the amusement park began again,” Braslavski said sarcastically.
Then the torture became worse. Braslavski revealed that his captors stripped him naked, starved him, and tied him up while sexually assaulting him at this point, with tears in his eyes. “They stripped me of all my clothes, my underwear, everything. They tied me up while I was completely naked. I was torn apart, dying, with no food.”
“It was sexual violence, and its main purpose was to humiliate me,” he said. “The goal was to crush my dignity. And that’s exactly what he did.” “I prayed to God, ‘Please, save me, get me out of this already.’ And you just say to yourself, ‘What the f***?’”
Braslavski doesn’t describe the sexual violence meant to “crush his dignity.” I suspect it was anal rape with a stick.
The people who almost beat Rom Braslavski to death on this occasion were not members of Hamas but hundreds of ordinary Gazans, full of murderous bloodlust toward any Jew.
In his imprisonment, every kind of torture and humiliation was inflicted on him — starvation, physical torture (those rocks nailed into his ear canals), sexual assault, total sensory deprivation, and endless beatings of every kind, yet somehow he endured, and stayed sane after 737 days of diabolical mistreatment. I had a pretty good idea that sh*t like this would be happening to the hostages. I am in awe of Rom Braslavski (and remember, he is just 21 years old!), that he survived, that he is alive, and he is basically sane (and given Israel’s experience with, for example, Shoah survivors, he will undoubtedly receive the ongoing physical, spiritual and psychological/ psychiatric care that he needs).
There is a video clip of him, after his return from Israel and release to hospital, going for a swim in the sea, on the seacoast of Israel. I cannot imagine the joy, the relief, of being able to plunge into clean life-giving flowing water, after the absolute HELL that he was put through, by Jihadis: a hell that Muslims, throughout all of the history of Islam, have repeatedly inflicted upon defenceless non-Muslim captives, whether male or female.
The gross abuse that Muslim mobsters of the so-called ‘grooming gangs’ have inflicted upon young – and very young, under -aged – British girls, with every form of sexual torture imaginable, is exactly of a piece with the torture inflicted upon Rom. The harems of historic Islam have been appallingly romanticised by idiot Western novelists and even by historians who ought to have known better. Islam is not a religion but a sadistic, blood-lusting ideology of vicious conquest. Jews and Christians are targets because they refused to follow mohammad–it has nothing to do with Israel as it has gone on for centuries. They also kill the polytheists (Hindus), idol worshippers (Buddhists), pagans and all infidels. They are slaughtering Christians in Nigeria ie about 70,000 in the last 10 years in Plateau state alone and have recently killed Christians in Congo, Burkina Faso …and some years ago malaysian muslims attacked and slaughtered Thai buddhists in a village beheading babies and others, chopping and hanging people. WE need to stop calling it a religion and stop it entering and being practiced in our countries. You do not invite those who want to kill you to enter. Close mosques which are jihad/rape incitement centres and islamic schools and all other sites which brainwash kids to kill and rape and endanger our children.
