In more innocent times, teenagers became notorious at various times for swallowing goldfish, seeing how many people they could stuff into a phone booth (look it up, kids), and smoking lots of hash. Now, the latest teen craze has a decidedly more sinister edge: over the last few days, Muslims in their late teens and early twenties have been arrested in Michigan, New Jersey, and Washington state. All of them were at various stages of the planning of jihad mass murder plots.
The plots largely revolved around rich kids with plenty of time on their hands and a newfound, brightly burning hatred. Nineteen-year-old Milo Sedarat, according to a Thursday report in the New York Post, “bragged about being ‘the biggest antisemite in America’” and “ranted about how he wanted to murder his artist mom’s Jewish friends.” He also “menacingly posed for pictures in his $1.2 million family home with swords and knives,” while his father, a noted poet named Roger Sedarat, presumably went about his business nearby, oblivious to what his son was up to.
Another one of the teen jihad plotters is Tomas Kaan Jimenez-Guzel of Montclair, New Jersey. He is also 19 and, as the son of a UN diplomat, quite well off, and wanted to behead people for propaganda videos. The earnest young ideologue said that he wanted the group to “do something that’s going to leave a mark in history. Something that’s gonna make them create a documentary on you on Netflix. Something that’s gonna make you have a Wikipedia page.”
Meanwhile, NBC News reported that “Saed Ali Mirreh, 19, of Kent, Washington, was arrested Wednesday by the FBI. Officials say he was in communication with seven other alleged ISIS supporters who have been arrested in the case,” including Jimenez-Guzel. The two of them “were each charged with one count of conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization — in this case ISIS — and one count of attempting to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.”
They were part of a plot to join the Islamic State, along with three Detroit-area Muslims, Mohmed Ali, who is 20 years old; Majed Mahmoud, who is also 20; Ayob Nasser, who is 19; and two others who are under eighteen. “They are charged with buying weapons and ammunition and scouting gay bars and an amusement park for a possible terrorist attack.” Meanwhile, the Seattle and New Jersey jihadis were formulating plans for jihad massacres at Jewish targets.

On my FB feed, I saw a Chinese-language post about an older Chinese-American lady who, when young, swan to Hong Kong to escape the Communists, and was admitted to the USA as a refugee. It described how she was utterly appalled that her grown, US-born sons had voted for Mamdani. Maybe there’s an ugly family dynamic at work (ethnic Chinese immigrant parents can be pretty tough–like a lot of European immigrant parents of yesteryear). But I also suspect that an American educational system that holds up a bunch of rebellious spirits (and I don’t mean the men of the 18th century who started out wanting to assert their “rights as Englishmen”) as models.
I was reminded how W.H. Auden, in his mature years, admitted that he and his interwar peers were drawn to Communism largely because they wished to destroy.
After 9/11, official America bent over backwards trying to say that the war wasn’t against Islam or Muslims per se; and were at least partially right. But we should never have allowed Islam to become “cool”. It has nothing in its core teachings to compare with Paul’s admonition to “as much as it is up to you, seek peace with all men” (Rom. 12:18). Islam’s glorification of war and the subjugation of “the other” (to steal the abominable Edward Said’s term) makes it clearly “uncool”.
Further, I regret to say that a lot of my contemporaries from back in the Silly ‘Sixties and Sillier ‘Seventies read Frantz Fanon’s works such as _The Wretched of the Earth_ and others to shape their “anticolonialist” ideology. The abovementioned work glorified the rebel’s rape of “the masters'” womenfolk as “liberating”. No wonder the Hamas videos of some poor victim who fouled herslef (or was raped bloody?) didn’t cause utter revulsion among the voters in NYC!
The young dudes mentioned in the OP are examples of what our current miseducational system and anti-culturalism masquerading as “multiculturalism” have created.

One of these trends is not like the others. Non-muslim teenagers of yesteryear went through those phases, and in the 10’s, there was that tide-pod challenge: kids swallowing tide-pods for TikTok notoriety. Once that got boring for them, they were out of it, and went on to do other things
The latter incidents of muslim teens plotting jihad attacks weren’t merely teens being teens: it was muslims being muslims. They noted that ISIS is organizing distributed plots to destabilize this country, decided to join in the fun and in the process gain major islamic street cred. This is more likely to be a permanent career path, than just a passing phase

What muzzies are doing are nowhere near that, with people being targeted for death.
