Police tasered and shot a suspected jihadist teenager who shouted Allahu Akbar at them after allegedly stabbing three people in a Madrid street attack and then holing up in his flat.

The 18-year-old, a Spaniard of Moroccan origin, is also said to have tried to attack officers and recite verses from the Koran as they attempted to overpower him.

The siege in the Madrid district of Puente de Vallecas ended with the teenager being shot and seriously injured by police after their Taser guns failed to stop him….

Police officers from a counter-terrorism subgroup of the UIP (Police Intervention Unit) shot and killed the young man who attacked three neighbors in Vallecas with a knife on Saturday in an incident that is currently being investigated as a jihadist attack.

The attacker, a young Spanish man of North African origin and radicalized, lunged at the police officers with a knife in hand, shouting “Allah is great!” and “I’m going to take you with me!” At that moment, he received three shots to the chest and abdomen. One of the bullets pierced a lung, the second went through a kidney, and a third hit his abdomen. The attacker is hospitalized at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital under police custody.

The incident, currently being investigated as a jihadist attack, unfolded in two separate acts a few hours apart.

Attack on three pedestrians
The first alert came shortly after 2:00 PM this Saturday, when neighbors reported a knife attack on pedestrians on Carlos Martín Álvarez street in Puente de Vallecas, Madrid. There, according to police sources, a man of Arab appearance had stabbed a 40-year-old man, an elderly woman, and a third victim.

The first police patrols to arrive at the scene found the three injured individuals, fortunately with only minor injuries. One had a 5-centimeter cut on his chest, the woman suffered a cut to the back of her neck, and a third victim only sustained scratches. Officers from the GOR and GAC units began patrolling the district in search of the attacker, a young man of North African origin.

Confrontation at the residence
Just a couple of hours later, the attacker’s brother called the police reporting that the 18-year-old was at home, very aggressive and armed with a knife.

The police treated the incident from the beginning as a jihadist terrorist incident. An anti-terrorism subgroup of the UIP (Police Intervention Unit) with operational weapons surrounded the residence on Peña de la Atalaya street, while jihadist terrorism specialists from the Intelligence Brigade took charge of the investigation.

After 4:30 p.m., UIP officers entered the house where the young man was barricaded, reciting verses from the Quran. The attacker, showing signs of having consumed drugs, began threatening the police officers with a large knife and received two shots from a Taser stun gun, which failed to subdue him.

The young man then attacked the police officers with the knife, attempting to stab them, and they repelled the attack with their submachine guns. Four shots were fired, three of which hit the alleged jihadist. One bullet pierced his lung, another went through a kidney, and the third hit him in the abdomen. The attacker has been admitted in serious condition to the Gregorio Marañón Hospital under police custody. “A Radicalized Young Man”
The police union JUPOL has come out in defense of the officers who acted, emphasizing, according to them, the proportionality of the means they used to contain a “radicalized young man”: “We want to show our full support for our colleagues who acted to neutralize a radicalized young man who had already attacked three other people. It was an absolutely proportionate response.”

“This is yet another example of how the police have lost their authority, and more and more violent incidents of this type are occurring. We demand that the laws be toughened to put an end to the feeling of impunity among criminals,” the union stated.

The Intelligence Brigade, meanwhile, is investigating the case as a jihadist incident, although it does not rule out the possibility that the attacker was under the influence of drugs.
