Also, I do wish people discussed the other candidates as well – particularly Irene Estrada of the Conservatives, who might have been a better alternative to Curtis Sliwa. Also, Trump’s call to Republicans to vote Cuomo was inane: since he couldn’t endorse either Sliwa or Estrada, he should have just stayed out of it

One would only know if other grocery stores in the city shut down, or withdrew, like the various Walgreens & Rite Aids in San Francisco. Once people were forced to go to such stores, only then would one see Cold War era lines like in Leningrad
When I was a kid in Calcutta in the 80s – then run by communists, but which still had a socialist government overall at the national level, there were both private and government groceries. People were issued Ration Cards, which were like an ID proof (w/o photographs), and they could use that to collect a specific amount of rice, wheat, sugar and other basic necessities. Usually, those w/ a reasonably good income would give their ration cards to the servants, since they had no intention of using those foodstuffs, which were typically low quality. They and other rich people would just continue to go to their usual grocery stores for their shopping
