On November 9, 1938, all over Germany Nazi Stormtroopers attacked and burned down hundreds of synagogues, looted and destroyed thousands of Jewish-owned shops, and beat to death many hundreds of Jews. That event has entered history as “Kristallnacht,” the Night of Broken Glass. This year a small gathering of Jews and non-Jews silently stood in observance of that terrible event, the precursor of the extermination camps and the mass murders that were soon to follow. But those who stood in quiet observance were attacked by a group of twenty Muslims, for whom any expression of sympathy for Jewish victims of the Nazis is intolerable. They wanted to commemorate in silence. But then they became victims of a vicious attack by Jew-haters.
On Sunday, 15 people gathered in Friedrich-Ebert-Park in Lahr (Baden-Württemberg), many carrying Israeli flags. On this day 87 years ago (November 9, 1938), the National Socialists organized a nationwide campaign of violence against Jews, during which synagogues were set on fire, businesses were destroyed, and thousands of people were deported.
A police spokesperson said: “The people had gathered around 4:30 p.m. to commemorate and pray together.” Videos show the participants—including many elderly people and a child—singing a song.
Suddenly, a man appears with a Palestinian flag, grins provocatively, and shouts “Free Palestine.” Other men follow. They disrupt the commemoration, shouting hate slogans against Israel.
The situation then escalates: A man in a black Adidas tracksuit snatches the Israeli flag from a female participant and runs off. According to the police, he then tries to “set it on fire.”
A suspect is apprehended shortly afterward. He is 17 years old and a Syrian refugee. He is accused of stealing the flag.
This troublemaker harassed the participants and, according to witness Bilal Aloge, also insulted them.
The suspects are refugees known to the police.
A 32-year-old man was also temporarily detained. According to police, he is stateless and also a refugee from the Arab world. BILD learned: Both suspects are known to the police, but not for similar offenses.
They — the 17-year-old and the 32-year-old — are both Arabs and both “known to the police,” which means they have previously been suspected or accused of committing crimes. The younger one, called a “Syrian refugee,” presumably left Syria when Assad was in power, should have been promptly deported back to his country as soon as the Assad regime fell; he could no longer claim to need asylum. Assad fled Syria almost a year ago. Why was this supposed “Syrian refugee” still running free in Germany, still able to violently express his hatred of Jews?
Restaurateur Bilal Aloge (50) happened to be there and spontaneously joined the memorial service. He told BILD: “It was awful. We were constantly being called ‘sons of bitches,’ and they kept shouting ‘Death to Israel.’ I estimate there were around 20 young men causing the disturbance. It was very threatening; we were scared.”
Bilal Aloge is a secular Kurd who owns Jaffa, a restaurant that specializes in Israeli cuisine, in the city of Lahr. He has always been pro-Israel, for he sees the connection between the Arabs who oppress the Kurds and the Arabs who would, if they could, oppress the Jews.
The German police in Baden-Wurtemburg ought to locate all twenty of these Muslim malefactors who tried to shut down that quiet and very small Kristallnacht observance, screaming their hatred of Jews, setting fire to an Israeli flag, and attempting to terrorize the fifteen participants. And then strip them of their status as “refugees,” and swiftly deport these carriers of the virus of antisemitism back to their countries of origin. That will provide a salutary lesson to those Muslims in Germany who would otherwise continue to harass and terrorize Jews, Israelis, and their German sympathizers.
