Erdogan Praises Pope for His Stance on ‘Palestinians’

Oh, dear. If Recep Tayyip Erdogan praises Pope Leo XIV’s “stance on the Palestinians,” that must mean the pope has adopted a position that the Turkish leader favors. That means forgetting about the 3500-year connection of the Jewish people to the Land of Israel, ignoring the terms of the Mandate for Palestine and the territory to which it applied (all the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea), and paying no attention to UN Security Council Resolution 242, that recognized Israel’s right to retain territory won in the Six-Day War that it needed if it was to have “secure and defensible borders.” It means embracing the “Two-State Solution” mirage, by which Israel would be squeezed back within the 1949 armistice lines, thereby losing control of areas critical for the Jewish state’s defense, including the Jordan Valley, and leaving Israel with a nine-mile-wide waist from Qalqilya to the sea, which would allow an invader from the east to slice Israel in two within a matter of hours.

Erdogan, after all, is deeply hostile to the Jewish state. A few years ago, he suggested that a pan-Islamic army be raised to attack and destroy Israel. Erdogan left no doubt that he expected to be the one most suited to lead such an army.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan praised Pope Leo’s stance on the Palestinian issue after meeting him in Ankara on Thursday, and said he hoped his first overseas visit as Catholic leader will benefit humanity at a time of tension and uncertainty.

“We commend (Pope Leo’s) astute stance on the Palestinian issue,” Erdogan said in an address to the Pope and political and religious leaders at the presidential library in the Turkish capital Ankara.

“Our debt to the Palestinian people is justice, and the foundation of this is to immediately implement the vision of a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders. Similarly, preserving the historic status of Jerusalem is crucial,” Erdogan said.

Pope Leo’s calls for peace and diplomacy regarding the war in Ukraine are also very meaningful, Erdogan said.

Pope Leo believes in the “two-state solution” that so many so mindlessly demand. But that “two-state solution” is no solution at all to the jihad waged against Israel. That is why 80% of Israelis now oppose the creation of a Palestinian state. That “Palestinian” state, were it to come into being, would include all of Judea and Samaria, as well as eastern Jerusalem. Israel would be hopelessly vulnerable. Just look at a map, that shows how that tiny state, scarcely discernible on a world map, would be even tinier still, with all of Judea and Samaria excised from it. That state of Palestine would be used as a launching pad for attacks on Israel, just as Gaza became after the Israelis pulled out of the Strip in 2005. Israeli’s new vulnerability would whet, not sate, Arab appetites for war, in order to achieve the never-abandoned goal of destroying the Jewish state, and expelling or killing all of its Jewish inhabitants.

There is a peace that can be achieved between Jews and Arabs in the Middle East. But it won’t be achieved by further Israeli surrenders of territory. That will only encourage the Arabs to prepare for another onslaught on the Jewish state. Nor can Israel trust in any treaties it might make with the Palestinians. As Muslims, they take as their model of treaty-making the Treaty of Al-Hudaibiyya, that Muhammad made with the Meccans in 628 A.D. That treaty was to last for 10 years. But after only eighteen months, having realized that his forces had become much stronger, Muhammad broke the treaty on a pretext, attacked the Meccans, and defeated them. Ever since then, Muslims have praised Muhammad for his treaty-making-and-breaking. In the Roman and Western world, the principle is “pacta sunt servanda” — treaties are to be obeyed. In the Muslim world, treaties that Muslims make with Infidels can be broken at any time if it suits the Muslims. Look at how the Palestinian Authority broke its solemn commitment in the Oslo Accords to fight terrorists, which it did in a most lackadaisical fashion, and still worse, it instituted a “Pay-For-Slay” policy, providing generous stipends to imprisoned terrorists and to the families of terrorists killed while carrying out their attacks, that both rewards past, and incentivizes future, terrorism.

But peace can be maintained in another way. That is through deterrence, the same strategy that worked to keep the peace between the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. If Israel is perceived as overwhelmingly more powerful than the Palestinians or its other Arab enemies, those Arabs will not attempt to assault the Jewish state. There will still be intermittent acts of terrorism, but never again a surprise attack like that Hamas carried out on October 7, 2023 — Israel now has learned lessons from the mistakes made that day that led to that successful attack by Hamas. And today it has a vast army of drones, that did not exist in October 2023, that now keep watch for enemy movements on all of Israel’s borders.

As for the Palestinians in Judea and Samaria, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has often repeated this lapidary formulation: “I think the Palestinians should have all the powers to govern themselves, but none of the powers to threaten us. They will have their own local government, local tax collection and expenditures.” So such things as water and electricity, roads, schools, hospitals, and so on would be under their control. But they would not have an army, and would be allowed no weapons more lethal than rifles, nor have an independent foreign policy.

Can Pope Leo XIV be made to understand the menace of jihad that will always threaten Israel and, through demographic conquest, increasingly, the peoples of Western Europe as well? Can he be persuaded that forcing Israel into a situation of maximum peril, in order to create a 23rd Arab state, is deeply unjust? Or will Pope Leo’s “stance on the Palestinians” continue to favor the Arabs now making war on the Jewish state, while the malevolent Padishah sitting in his 1,150- room Ak Saray, or White Palace, beams his approval?

  2. I know Erdogan of Turkey is anti Semitic and the Pope needs to BUTT OUT.. a two state solution.. is not possible. FULL STOP. all the HAMAS and Palestinians who are pro Hamas.. and also let’s remember Quatar has some Hamas hiding there. The middle East Islamist are terrorists and liars. The US NEEDS TO STAND BY ISRAEL.. per the Bible. We should not trust ANY OF THEM.. When people bring up Turkey I immediately think “ERODGAN.”.. I mean the Pakistanis didn’t know that Osama Bin Laden’ family etc was hiding in Pakistan?.. we trust them.. the just EVIL.. and want a world Caliphate.. which is not what GOD wants or the rest of Western Civilization. RECOGNIZING WHO THE ENEMIES ARE IS A GOOD PLACE TO START.

    I was raised Catholic, but began to have questions on Catholicism from about the age of 10.
    I’m still very much a Christian, and this currying favor with the savages of Islam, is very worrying.
    Islam must be banned in the West, if we are to survive.

  5. Where is an Urban II when Western Civilization really needs him? Once again I will state that the old Catholic Church is dead. Vatican II killed it. That old fool (yeah, he was a kind old man but so what?), Pope John XXIII, did a most stupid thing, i.e., he attempted to fix something that wasn’t broken, and that utter bureaucrat of a Pope, Paul VI. placed his imprimatur on the rot that Vatican II spawned.

    Frankly, I have little patience with those who can’t see any of this. Now we have pseudo-Catholicism, replete with kumbaya crap like folk songs at Mass, the ever annoying “Let us offer each other a sign of peace” rubbish, the altar turned around which makes it look like a version of Julia Child preparing a chicken recipe, the basic extinction of mystery taken out of Catholicism (and mystery is intrinsic to religion and one knows this or should know it and the killing of the Latin Mass is demonstrative of this), and, arguably worst of all, per Vatican II garbage, the idea that all major religions have valid revelation experiences from the deity. Well, if Mohammed had anything valid from the deity, then that deity should have his cosmic head examined and it’s time to emulate Prometheus defying Zeus. For some 1350 years the Catholic Church, and by extension all of Christianity, knew that Islam was intrinsically an enemy of Christianity. For Christ’s sake, Islam even denies the Crucifixion and has Jesus at the end of the world throwing all Christians into Hell for deifying Him.

    The fact that an agnostic like myself, who doesn’t have a religious bone in his body, but who has long admired both Judaism and Christianity because of their ethical norms, has to state all this serves as ipso facto evidence of just how much trouble the greatest civilization of all time, Western Civilization—you know, the one that invented philosophy, democracy, the scientific method, the greatest technological heritage ever, explored women’s rights better than any other civilization or society, the capacity to apologize for past wrongdoings and which no other major civilization has done, et al.—is really in.

    This new Pope, an overeducated dud of a man, is dispositive of what has happened to Catholicism just as the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is as well and along with other anti-American, anti-Western organizations within the Catholic Church like Catholic Charities.

    Beyond disgusted with the modern Catholic Church as evidenced by someone like the pathetic Leo XIV. Is my blood up here? You bet it is. If one’s blood is not up as the greatest civilization of all time continues to implode there is something wrong with that person and not with someone like me.

    Time for a beer and a football game. After all, there is a limit to how much civilizational destruction one can take.

  6. The Pope any more is just a sham. I used to be Catholic also, a long time ago. The Catholic Church actually does do good things, believe it or not. But this, I can’t imagine anyone Catholic being proud of this.

  8. I’m Eastern Rite Catholic, but after this pope and the last one, I’m tempted to join the Orthodox. The only thing that keeps me from doing it is that we have the same liturgy the Orthodox do, same customs and traditions, our own hierarchy.
    Our priest doesn’t pay any attention to what the Roman rite does.

    This pope is ignorant of the snake Erdogan and Islam—or else he’s drinking the kool-aid. Did he think to ask why there’s only 100,000 Christians left in Turkey? He’s going to wallow in the taquiya until the Muslims take the Catican.

      many non-Christians may not realize it, but the land now called turkey, is laid out in the Bible where the disciples traveled and made more disciples and grew congregations of them.
      Many are the cities named in the Christian Greek Scriptures.

      Jesus spoke to seven of the early congregations, warning five of them of things they were doing which would bring Judgment.
      If the pope wanted to have real spiritual authority, he would read and heed those warnings.

  12. I’m still waiting for the pope’s position on christians in Nigeria and else where in Islamic countries. He has to know that Islam wants to destroy Christianity and murder its followers.
