This is the party of Mamdani now.
Democrats tumble into extremism because they have no red lines. And true to form, after being leery of Mamdani, Dem governors (including Gov. Josh Shapiro) are tumbling over each other to hook up with the new rising star.
And take on Trump.
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has spoken privately with several Democratic governors about how to take on President Trump and tackle other priorities, Axios has learned.
Mamdani talked on the phone with Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Monday and with Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on election night, three people familiar with their conversations tell Axios.
He chatted earlier with Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, as was previously reported.
Gov. Gavin Newsom will presumably soon join the list. Probably followed by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. They’ll correctly calculate that the current trajectory of their party makes Mamdani and his base of radicals more of an asset than the remaining decent people, not to mention Jewish Democrats, who object to that sort of thing.
In the bigger picture, they’re not worried about Republicans tarring them as the party of Mamdani. A number of Republicans were eagerly waiting for Mamdani to win so they could paint the whole party in his image.
Dems are fine with it.
After Obama gave Mamdani his blessing, Dems have gotten on board. Socialism is no longer off-putting to a lot of voters. And Mamdani has a better public presence than AOC who gets on a lot of nerves. Having him on the campaign trail will be a minus with a certain percentage of voters, but those are the voters, including their own, Dems are currently writing off. They’ll pay a price for that, but right now they’re heady with the prospect of cashing in on dissatisfied independents who aren’t happy with the economy, and not thinking long term.
So this is the party of Mamdani now.

Will that fat billionaire governor Pritzker send some of his surplus wealth to pay for child care for all in the big rotten apple or for free buses for all? Will governor Shapiro turn down businesses moving from NY to his lower taxed state? What about the issue of Mamdani being in close with anti-Semitic terrorist and him being a proud member himself of the Moslem Brotherhood that is what it said in the NYC voting guide on his bio? Do these governors both Jewish fell a little bit of shame or guilt ,or maybe fear for Jews living in the 5 boros of the city???

Why do they bother? Mamdani can’t legally run for POTUS, and he has shown, like w/ Hochul, that he won’t return any favors. In the end, he’ll support whoever the DSA backs
I also disagree that he’s a “socialist”: that’s a euphemism (like “progressive”) for a communist. The last socialists that existed were center-left leaders of Europe during the Cold War, who believed in government playing a role in sectors of the economy where free markets seemingly weren’t working. They didn’t believe in a complete takeover of their economies. Today’s Leftists do, and while few are actually communist, some are more accurately Fascist ie believe in indirect (via company owners) control of all means of production, rather than direct control, which sheds all accountability
One thing, though. If those on the Right wanna campaign against him, don’t do it on the basis of communism, which most Zoomers have no clue about, since they never lived it. Instead, focus on his islamic credentials, even if it leads to being called “islamophobes”, and point out his links to various jihad groups. Only that will make him toxic to the general population, who has any idea of what islam is about (and here, everybody – young and old – have the same experience)
