Girls and young women should buy a pair of thick, sturdy socks and put a few ball bearings or rocks from the road in them. Then carry a rock-filled sock with them wherever they go. A swing to the side of the head would put a ghoulish rapist on notice…if his head didn’t crack from the contact.
These young ladies get no protection from the authorities; they must find ways to protect themselves.

As it´s against the law to carry to carry a dedicated defensive spray, all females in the UK should carry a spray can of Deep Heat or similar muscular relief as a form of defence to spray into the assailants face. I say this as I don´t believe a defensive spray against bears & wolves would convince plod.
