Those Demonstrating for ‘Palestine’ in Europe Have Little Idea What the Muslim War Against Israel Is All About

The young and not-so-young demonstrating “for Palestine” all over Europe mostly have little idea what the Muslim war against the Jewish state is all about. Quite a few of them don’t really give a damn; they are using “Palestine” simply as an excuse to riot, to vandalize, to be swept up in a mob and have a high old time. For too many, it’s fun to become part of a crowd, to submerge your identity in this mass of unthinking pulsating humanity, to shout along with ten thousand or fifty thousand other people — just like the Fascisti used to do for Mussolini, il granitico, at the Piazza Venezia, or for Hitler when he appeared to address a massive rally at Nuremburg. And the violence these crowds engage in can be justified as a way to bring the world’s attention to the “genocide” being carried out, so we are told, in Gaza. For many of these people, the rage was never really about Israel. Israel is the excuse that comes to hand. In another few years, it will be something else. Many of these protesters are full of self-loathing, and also of hatred for the societies they live in. Their hatred for the West is astonishing, for whatever its many faults, that West is still far superior to any other civilization that now exists.

These people have found another object to loathe, to divert their attention from their own self-hatred. It’s the Jewish state, the antisemitic hatred for which now spreads ln Europe like the plague it always has been. The protesters, in Europe and to a lesser extent in North America, swathed in their keffiyehs and waving their Palestinian flags, have managed to dominate the campuses, the city streets, the airwaves and social media.

Israel offers many advantages as an object of hatred. There is, of course, two millennia of Jew-hatred that can be recycled ad libitum and ad nauseam. And the Jews of Israel are seen as “white” — though Ethiopian, Yemenite, and Iraqi Jews undermine that claim — while the “Palestinians” are seen as “brown.” In the imagination of the left, Israel is thus regarded as the colonial-settler power and the Palestinians as the victims of the “racist” Israelis. Our sympathies must always be with the “brown” peoples of this earth and against those who are “white.” Those “whites,” we are expected to believe, have been, and remain, cruel exploiters of the “brown” peoples. Forget about everything else, the 3500-year history of the Jews in the Land of Israel, the League of Nations’ Palestine Mandate, UN Security Council Resolution 242. None of that matters. “Genocide!”

The Israelis are said to now be fighting a seven-front war. In truth, it is an eight-front war, and the eighth front is that which requires the winning back of hearts and minds across the globe. So far, Israel has been losing that war. It needs to enroll far more people in the media campaign to make Israel’s case, preferably by those who are native speakers of English, well-versed in all the minutiae of the war in Gaza, in the history of Jews in their land, and about the century-long campaign by the Arabs to destroy the state. Along with their mastery of the subject, these spokesmen should be prepared to suavely correct every mistake of every interviewer from the BBC, or Canal Cinq, or NBC, or Deutsche Welle or RAI Uno. And by doing this, those defenders of Israel may chase away the cloud of unknowing, and let the blue inobnubilated sky of knowledge reappear. These spokesmen must not just set the record — all kinds of records — straight, but also make their audiences realize that the jihadist imperative that motivates Palestinian Arabs to want to destroy Israel, is the same malignant force that threatens the civilization of the West.
