The Global Sumud Flotilla Flotsam and Jetsam Have Been Spreading Massive Lies

The Global Sumud Flotilla flotsam and jetsam have been spreading massive lies in the media about how the Israeli sailors mistreated them when they boarded their 47 boats and then put the pro-Hamas demonstrators on dry land, to be briskly processed and deported. Lorenzo D’Agostino, an Italian activist, said after returning to Istanbul that Thunberg was “wrapped in the Israeli flag and paraded like a trophy.”

There are no pictures of Greta either wearing an Israeli flag or being “paraded like a trophy.” There is a video, broadcast on Italian television (which is where I saw it), showing that she was given a blanket, not a flag, to wear over her shoulders. The Israelis videotaped the whole operation from the boarding of the boats to the arrival on land of the flotilla members. There is no evidence of Greta being “paraded like a trophy.” That’s what Hamas did with the Israelis it kidnapped — displaying them, half-naked, as “trophies” on the back of flat-bed trucks, on October 7. Some Israeli hostages, too, just before they were released, have been paraded in front of the media.

The flotilla’s Italian legal team claimed that those detained were left without food or water for hours, with the exception of “a packet of crisps handed to Greta and shown to the cameras.”…

They were “left without food or water for hours”? How many hours? Say, between breakfast at 7 and lunch at 1 — six whole hours? Or between lunch at 1 and supper at 7 — again, six whole hours? Even if they had not been provided with food for six hours, it is hardly worth mentioning. It’s the normal interval between meals.

The Swedish embassy in Tel Aviv remains in contact with Israeli authorities to stress the importance of swift processing and the possibility of returning home to Sweden. Based on discussions with detained individuals, the importance of addressing individual medical needs was also emphasized.

What medical needs are those? Is there any reason to believe that the Israelis are not addressing any medical needs of flotilla participants? No. And is there any reason to think Israeli authorities are deliberately slowing the processing of flotilla participants and not sending them back to their countries of origin as soon as possible? Why would Israel want to keep them from promptly leaving? For Israel, it’s good riddance, and don’t slam the door on your way out.

Moreover, the embassy stressed that food and clean water must be provided immediately, and that all detainees must be given access to Israeli legal counsel, if desired.”

The Swedish embassy stresses that “food and clean water be provided immediately.” Does the embassy staff have any reason to believe that the food and water had not been provided? No. So why does it raise the matter at all? It apparently wants to suggest, without the slightest evidence, that Israel was not supplying that food and water. And the same goes for demanding “access to legal counsel” for the flotilla participants, even though Israel has insisted there was never any denial of legal counsel.

Whom do you believe? Greta Thunberg, who complained of bedbugs — though no one else did — and of being denied food and water (Israel flatly denies it), and of carefully unspecified “harsh” treatment? She does not mention the claims that other flotilla members made; they variously said — though none of their claims overlapped — that she was pulled by her hair, that she was beaten, that she was made to kiss the Israeli flag, that she was paraded “like a trophy.” Surely if any of that had happened, Greta would have mentioned it. But she did not.

Yes, for god’s sake, lie, you floating effluvia of the Western world, standing up for “Palestine” and the terror group Hamas, go ahead and lie, but know when to stop.
