Robert Spencer Warns — ‘Intifada on the Hudson’ Looms as Communist Muslim Zohran Mamdani Poised to Take New York

Mamdani’s election would not merely change New York — it would normalize, inside the American system itself, the merger of Islam and Marxism as a legitimate governing force.

In an explosive RAIR Foundation USA exclusive interview, Jihad Watch Director Robert Spencer issued a stark warning about what could soon befall America’s largest city: the election of Zohran Mamdani, a self-described “socialist” and devout Twelver Shiite Muslim, whom Spencer describes as “a Marxist revolutionary aligned with Iran’s jihadist ideology.”

Mamdani — whom current polling gives an 87% chance of becoming New York’s next mayor (Emerson College Poll, Oct. 2025) — is the subject of Spencer’s new book, Intifada on the Hudson: The Selling of Zohran Mamdani, a devastating exposé revealing how the radical left and Islamic movements are converging in the heart of America’s most influential city

“A Communist Muslim Leading America’s Largest City”

Spencer warns that Mamdani’s rise represents “a fusion of two totalitarian ideologies — Marxism and Islam — each using terror, fear, and class warfare to impose an earthly utopia by force.”

“He’s both a Marxist and a Twelver Shiite Muslim — the same sect that rules Iran,” Spencer explained. “These are the people who chant ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’ every Friday — not as a slogan, but as a plan of action.”

Spencer points to Iranian assassination plots on U.S. soil, including the 2021 attempt to kill a dissident journalist in Brooklyn and the foiled 2011 plot to bomb a D.C. restaurant frequented by a Saudi ambassador, as precedent for Tehran’s long arm inside America.

“What better way to further that plan,” Spencer asked, “than having someone ideologically aligned with Iran’s regime leading the largest city in the country?”

If Mamdani becomes mayor, Spencer warns, New York will not merely elect another far-left politician — it will legitimize the Marxist-Islamic alliance on American soil, empowering enemies of liberty worldwide.

“A True Believer” Backed by Marxist and Islamic Elites

Born into immense privilege, Mamdani is no grassroots reformer. His mother, Meera Nair, is a wealthy, internationally acclaimed filmmaker who boycotts Israel and once refused an award from the Haifa Film Festival “until the apartheid regime is dismantled.”

His father, Mahmood Mamdani, is a Marxist Columbia University professor known for his book Good Muslim, Bad Muslim, which framed jihad as “resistance to Western imperialism.”

“He was raised in Marxist-Islamist privilege,” Spencer said. “A millionaire’s son pretending to be a revolutionary — just like Lenin, Mao, and Castro before him.”

Mamdani’s lavish three-continent wedding earlier this year — with receptions in New York, Dubai, and Kampala, Uganda, at his family’s private compound — exposes the familiar hypocrisy of Marxist elites who decry capitalism while living in its luxury.

Marxism Meets the Jizya

Mamdani’s proposed policies — including “taxing white neighborhoods more” (Meet the Press interview, June 2025), nationalizing housing, and creating city-run grocery stores — are, according to Spencer, a Marxist echo of Islam’s jizya, the discriminatory tax historically imposed on non-Muslims under Sharia rule.

“Marxism penalizes the productive for the sake of the unproductive,” Spencer explained. “It’s the same principle behind the jizya — punishing one class to empower another, while elites live comfortably above them all.”

Such measures, Spencer warns, would quickly bankrupt New York City, trigger demands for a federal bailout, and deepen racial and class division — an outcome both Marxists and Muslims desire to fracture American society from within.

The Red-Green Axis: Antifa and Muslims in the Streets

Spencer predicts a surge in street-level chaos should Mamdani take power, pointing to a pattern across Western cities where leftist governments enable both Antifa violence and Islamic demonstrations.

“Antifa and Islam operate the same way — through intimidation,” he said.
“The goal is to terrify the public into silence and submission. That’s not an accident; it’s the model.”

In cities like Portland, Minneapolis, and London, Spencer notes, the “red-green axis” has manifested in mass protests, synagogue vandalism, and anti-Israel marches that go unchecked by progressive mayors.

With control over NYPD leadership, budget allocations, and public assembly permits, Mamdani could transform New York into “a giant Portland — but armed with Iran’s ideology and New York’s power.”

The Jewish Question — and the Left’s Blind Spot

Despite New York’s enormous Jewish population — nearly 1.6 million, the largest outside Israel — Spencer warns that many left-leaning Jews may still back Mamdani out of a misplaced belief in progressive egalitarianism.

“Socialism promised equality after centuries of persecution, but it’s now the vehicle for a new antisemitism,” Spencer warned. “The right defends the individual. The left erases distinctions, including the Jewish identity itself.”

Mamdani’s public support for the BDS movement and his family’s anti-Israel activism should serve as a wake-up call to Jewish voters still convinced that the political left remains their protector.

What’s at Stake

Under New York’s charter, the mayor controls: The appointment of the NYPD Commissioner, Corporation Counsel, and the city budget exceeding $100 billion

  • Oversight of school curricula, zoning boards, and emergency executive powers
  • Direct influence on federal cooperation, including with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force

A Mamdani administration, Spencer argues, could use those levers to weaken counterterror programs, defund police, and turn the city into a national flashpoint for Marxist-Islamic unrest.

A Final Warning

Spencer closes with a stark message for voters nationwide: “He’s deadly serious about everything he says,” Spencer concluded. “He’s a die-hard Marxist and an unapologetic Islamist. If he wins, it will not stop at New York — it will spread across America.”

  1. Absolutely it will spread across the nation. If a majority of 8 million people vote for this muzzie slime….it will embolden those like him.to take other cities. Already muzzies have taken smaller places where they feel free to say Christians are unwelcome, and riot against the Jews.

    • Sad thing here is, it won’t take that many people to vote for him. New York has Rank Choice voting same as Maine and Alaska, which I believe are the only 3 States in the Country left that have that corrupt voting system still. They will be able to use that to install him in that city, this is nothing more then a Democrat/Progressive way to cheat, same as mail in ballots, which I believe they still use there also. As much as it breaks my heart to say it, he will probably take that city.

      • The democratic primary had rank voting the regular election in NYC is a three way race with no rank voting between a democratic (really a communist) a republican and Cuomo what ever he is.

      • Ranked Choice voting in Alaska is very different from NYC (not sure about Maine, but again, California has a third type). I’ll list the types below
        ⮞ Open primaries – in this case, voters rank all the candidates of all parties together, so that the candidate w/ the fewest #1 votes is eliminated, then his voters are distributed among the ones above him/her. This exercise continues until there are just 2 left standing. Which could, and usually does end up in being 2 Dems. If Porter and Bacchera are the top 2 candidates for governor, then California remains lost
        ⮞ Closed primaries – in this case, the voters of a party rank all their party’s candidates, and pick them accordingly. Virginia has this, and tosses in a weight factor, where counties that elect Republican are given a greater weightage than the DC suburb counties that don’t – Fairfax, Arlington, Loudoun,…. so that the heavily populated north, which doesn’t vote (D) anyway, doesn’t down out the GOP in the rest of the state: you wouldn’t want a Barbara Comstock leading the party. The situation was similar in NYC, but there, I’ll bet that Mamdani would have won it even if it had been a straight contest
        ⮞ Open General – this is what Alaska has. It’s what has enabled Murkowski to win, even though she doesn’t enjoy much GOP support in that state. But what happens is that most Dems would have their own candidate as #1, Murkowski as #2 and Ciabata as #3. Republicans stupidly don’t pick a #2 or #3. If they did, they’d select some unknown candidates as their #2 and #3, and sabotage Murkowski completely

    • The trouble it is a three way race. Mamdani only needs about 35 to 40 percent to be a clear winner ,right now he is polling about 42-43 percent with Curtis getting about 19-25 percent and Cuomo getting between 26-36 percent with a margin of error around 4 percent . Only if Curtis drop out does Cuomo stand a chance of keeping this communist ,terrorist loving piece of human excrement from being mayor of NYC. Early voting starts on Oct.25 in NYC less then a week away. The tri-state area New York up state NY , L.I. ,all of New Jersey ,and Connecticut will be hurt greatly economically if NYC goes full bore communist with this smiling evil communist clown if he is elected . Adams the current mayor of NYC drop out of the race and went on VL on the city dime to Albanian to look at improving and attracting tourism and investments from the country of Albanian into NYC. Talk about strange events in the world of politics and strange bed fellows .

America’s destruction will be the result of two things: religious freedom that ignores the content of religious beliefs themselves, which in turn promotes violence, hatred, racism, and discrimination. The second thing is an immigration policy that is open to all cultures, including those that seek to destroy the foundations and principles upon which America was founded. I believe there is still great hope for saving America if the American people and political decision-makers develop a new understanding and vision of who deserves religious freedom within America and who does not, and if immigration policy changes to significantly reduce immigration from the Muslim world.

    • I believe that it is revival that will ultimately make a difference – firstly, because Islam is demonic, and spiritual warfare will fuel political change, but also because those who care about truth will rule out what is untrue and unholy. In the Bible, the Jews were urged to treat foreigners kindly, but to draw the line at facilitating the worship of idols, which was the action of Solomon that resulted in his son Rehoboam’s loss of the ten tribes.

    • Religion is *not* supposed to trump US law–it is a violation of our laws when it does. You can worship the Volcano God–no one cares–but if you try and sacrifice virgins to it that is against the law. Our problem is that our laws are not being vigorously enforced.

  7. You can vote your way into Socialism or Communism, but you will have to shoot your way out of Socialism or Communism. I’m sure the NYDP will be reduced to almost nothing by the Comlanist. And also by resignations. Then be rebuilt and refilled with Islamic police that will support Sharia law over Constitutional Law.
    Then we will need an Army of Snake Plissken’s to clean it up.

      My ex wife worked for a Christian charity in Nigeria. And there was a widespread crisis of Christian women being raped, but almost no Muslim ones.

      And the whole system was totally screwed up in many ways. For example where they were doing charity, population was 70-30 Christian. But 90 pct of the aid went to Muslims. It was all politics, it was a lot of idiotic ideology mixed in.

      Muslims took them over, and my wife was disillusioned by their behavior, the entitlement and control by community leaders was escalating. Even though Christian’s were in equal need and equal poverty, the Muslims were loud, different, demanding, and PLAYED VICTIM above all else…. They cornered the aid, and many aid objects themselves became weaponized and sold once in their hands by people who weren’t supposed to have it. The Aid was limited, many poor families. Muslims got the priority by using the possibility of violence and crying victim hood as leverage. Leading to politics with the Christian groups. Oh and the Muslim groups? Do u think they helped Christian’s at all! NO.!! They even fund arms!

      That’s the thing. There is and underlying threat of violence involved where ever they go. It will be no exception in nyc, just like London….. Nigeria, nobody talks about what’s happening there. Nobody. They’re all being killed and pushed out by the very people we fed and clothed hoping to show them kindness, but in the end, our charities only helped arm the enemy.

      Arm the enemy, that’s what you’re doing with Mamdani. You’re giving them the key to the safe, the safe is the treasury…. They’re evil. It took us idealistic people years to realize, but they’re evil…. We were raised with love, and we were idealists… but we saw it.

  9. I can only hope the voters on N.Y. City are smart enough to NOT vote for Mamdani and the destruction of their city.
    America this is going to be a major hit for our country if Mamdani gets elected.

    • About 35- 40 percent are falling for the offer of “free stuff” or housing discounted by government .It did not work in Russia, Cuba ,China, Eastern Europe under Soviet control why should it work in NYC in 2025 ?? You have Cuomo who talks like he is made of wood he resign when under investigation of sexual harassment of staffers when he was governor. Cuomo who sent infected nursing home patients still infected with COV back from the hospitals to the nursing homes to infect other nursing home patients when he was governor .Cuomo who as governor started the no bail release of repeat convicted felons awaiting trial .You have Curtis Swale someone who always runs never wins an office he is a professional activist .It does not look good ,what happens if Mamdani gets in he cannot raise taxes without the governor and Albany assemble OK .Trump will not help pay for these communist schemes . I see riots ,I see police officers resigning .I see businesses big and small leaving the city, that is the future if Mamdani gets in. I see economic hardship in the tri-state area of NY ,NJ and Connecticut. If you live in the Southwest ,or Southwest ,or the Midwest ,every place in the country will be effected because of the economic importance of the tri-state area to the country.

      • Thinking about Mamdani’s city-run groceries, I thought about the old footage we would see back in the day of long breadlines outside stores in the Soviet Union. Those stores usually had stale food, which people had no option but to either buy or lose to the person next in line. Looks like New Yorkers need that experience to understand what a stupid economic system communism really is

        Even today’s Russia, despite the issues of war, ain’t that retarded, even though as per some reports, they have re-started rationing food

          These will be sure to limit what is sold to each family.

  10. Always concerned that Mr. Spencer has not addressed the Islamic book Reliance of the Traveller: Islamic Sacred Law. (sharia law)

    In Chapter o9.0 titled Jihad should be acknowledged because it is a clear and precise information on the how and why Islam is killing Christians and Jewish people.

    Everyone should read this chapter, its online, look it up.

      • May have mention it however following this website I have yet to see Mr. Spencer write a book and or a complete article about it.

    • How many “greener pastures” will be polluted by Islamic sharia law? Do you live in a bubble or an unreachable island that Islam will not invade? Maybe good people who will not vote for this freak over 50 percent by the current polls deserve punishment?

  12. Part of me wants to invoke the old adage that people vote for the leaders they deserve, but this really is a giant step too far. This is what Muslims do wherever they go, whether they wear a Brooks Brothers suit or a ragged robe: spread their vile poisonous ideology and eventually when established in sufficient numbers, insert themselves into politics. And because humane, civil people don’t tend to resort to assassination, there’s nothing to be done.

      This guy comes on the scene out of nowhere with no qualifying work history. He’s a well-supported smooth talker with foreign roots. Reminds me of the way Obama came on the scene.

      I have wondered if Cuomo was paid to run as an independent in order to give Mamdani an almost sure shot at being elected. Who would make it worth his while to run? Some Muslim group or groups, like Qatar, maybe. They’ve done plenty of buying for Islamic expansion.

      How? Maybe a cash deposit in a foreign bank (or banks) account? Maybe the Bank of Qatar? (search “banks in Qatar”). Not traceable by the US.

      Muslim mayor in London; now maybe New York; next maybe Paris.

      • Ask the current Mayor Adams why he drop out and left for a city funded “fact finding mission to increase NYC trade and tourism between Albanian and NYC “who paid him to drop out ??
