In Noting Ill Effects of Mass Muslim Migration, Germany’s Merz Did Not Go Far Enough

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is being attacked for speaking an obvious truth: “Uproar after Merz says migration ’causes problems’ in German cities,” by Chris Gattringer, Brussels Signal, October 17, 2025:

The Chancellor did, though, receive support from various sides. Michael Ketschmer, State Prime Minister of Saxony and also a CDU politician, told magazine Spiegel that the problem was not migration per se, but adherence to shared values, adding: “A lot has changed since 2014. The papers are full of violent acts by people who – it turns out – are actually in this country illegally.”…

Note how Michael Ketschmer does not dare to say that those “violent acts” are not just committed by illegal migrants, but mainly by Muslim migrants, who are both illegal and legal. When Kretschmer speaks of a lack of adherence to “shared values,” he should go further, and ask aloud how can Muslims be expected to ever share the values of the Infidels, who are for them the “most vile of created beings.” Should Muslims be expected to treat women as equals, when in Islam they are distinctly inferior? The testimony of Muslim females in Sharia courts is worth half that of males. In Islam, daughters inherit half what sons inherit. Muslim wives have to go through an intricate process to obtain a divorce, whereas a Muslim man need only recite the triple-talaq to divorce his wife. A Muslim man can have up to four wives; a Muslim wife is limited to one cousin. Muslims believe in child marriage, on the model of Muhammad, to whom little Aisha was betrothed when she was six, and then married to Muhammad when she was nine and the marriage could be consummated. In Sharia courts in Europe, Muslim males marry girls who are below the minimum age required for marriage according to the laws of the state. It’s not possible to persuade Muslim males to treat females, including their own wives and daughters, as equal to their brothers, husbands, and fathers.

There are Germans who find that the neighborhoods they grew up in now look like Karachi, or Baghdad, or Damascus. This sense of dépaysement, of no longer belonging to your own country, is a source of great anxiety.

Wolfgang Büscher, spokesman for Arche, a Christian aid association that works with young migrants, voiced his support, telling Welt TV: “Mr Merz is right, he is 100 per cent right in saying this. But we cannot solve this problem by deporting a few hundred of these people.

“We have to distribute these young people around, we have to educate them. We should be thinking about compulsory education.”…

Wolfgang Buscher thinks that we should “distribute these young people around” — that is, take them out of the Muslim ghettos they have constructed for themselves. Then it will presumably be easier to disabuse them of those Muslim attitudes that contrast so much with German values. He also thinks that a German education will cure these young Muslims of their hostile attitudes toward the Infidels. But what they learn from the texts and teachings of Islam will outweigh whatever they are taught in the schools. They are taught not to take Jews and Christians as friends, “for they are friends only with each other” (5:51). They learn, too, that while Muslims are “the best of peoples” (3:110) the Germans among whom they live are, like all Infidels, “the most vile of created beings.” (98:6). Finally, they learn from a famous hadith by Muhammad that “Islam is to dominate and not to be dominated.” Those are the lessons that matter and take precedence over whatever is it the Infidels try to teach.

Others on the Right were less benign, claiming that Merz did not practice what he preached.

Publicist Henryk Broder said: “That is the real scandal. Not that he said it but that he does not stand by it. He must state the facts as they are.

Broder, and others, wanted Merz to go farther than merely stating that migration “has had a negative effect on our cities.” He should have gone into detail: which migrants does Merz have in mind? Merz shouldn’t be afraid to identify them as Muslims. Nor should he have stopped there. He might have dilated upon exactly what that “negative effect” has been. He could have discussed what policies make the most sense to deal with the problem. He might have suggested halting all Muslim migration from now on. He might have discussed what criteria might be applied to deport some of the Muslim migrants already in the country. But he didn’t. And as a consequence, the CDU’s rival on the right, Alternative für Deutschland, unabashedly in favor of reducing Germany’s Muslim population, continues to make gains at the expense of the CDU.
