How German It Is, Or, Wie Deutsch Ist Es (Part 2)

Now Germany, like so many other countries in Europe, is convulsed with pro-Hamas anti-Israel protests, but those protests also veer off into violence against other perceived enemies, such as the center-right political party of the Christian Democrats, who are trying to introduce austerity measures in light of the extra billions of dollars that now must be spent on defense. Pro-Hamas agitators in Germany carried out a series of antisemitic attacks this week, vandalizing government offices and targeting a Berlin bar with death threats and intimidation.

On Tuesday, an antisemitic flyer began circulating in Berlin, targeting the owners of Bajszel, a local bar in the city’s southeastern Neukölln neighborhood, with threats of violence and death, German media reported.

Since the start of the war in Gaza, the local bar — which hosts cultural programs and political events dedicated to fighting antisemitism — has been repeatedly targeted, with customers and staff threatened as “Jewish child killers” and the establishment repeatedly vandalized.

In this latest targeted incident, unknown individuals plastered flyers on the bar’s facade bearing the headline “Make Zionists Afraid.” Designed like a wanted poster, the handout showed photos of the three owners, each stamped with an inverted red triangle, which Hamas has used in its propaganda videos to indicate Israeli targets about to be attacked. The symbol has become a demonstration of support for the Palestinian terrorist group amid the war in Gaza.

The flyer accused the owners of “openly expressing their support for the colonial state of Israel” through the events they host at their bar….

The “colonial state of Israel”? The state where Jews have lived for the past 3500 years? It is the Arabs who have been the most successful imperialists in world history, using Islam as a vehicle for Arab supremacism.

Shortly after this incident, a pro-Palestinian demonstration was held outside the Foreign Ministry, where protesters chanted slogans such as “Free Palestine,” “Genocide,” and “All of Berlin hates the police.”…

They chant, among their slogans, “all of Berlin hates the police.” What do the German police have to do with “Palestine”? Nothing. These people are anarchists; if they could they would pull down the state on top of everyone, like Samson, eyeless in Gaza.

In recent weeks, CDU offices in Hanover, Oldenburg, and other cities have also been vandalized. In Göttingen, additional buildings — including those of the Social Democratic Party of Germany — have been defaced.

This is how it goes: a protest is announced that will take place at a certain date at a certain place. It is not necessarily, in the beginning, a pro-Hamas protest. It what often begins as a protest against the government. In France, for example, a number of recent protests started as expressions of rage at Macron’s budget cuts, and at the proposed lifting of the retirement age from 62 to 65. But Muslims join these protests, and start to shout their own slogans, in an aggressive manner that cows others — non-Muslim French — into following their lead. What began as a protest over government policies then metamorphoses into a protest against every left-winger’s favorite whipping dog, the mighty empire of little Israel.

This is what the doctors call an “opportunistic infection.” There is something wrong with the Western world, no doubt, and the young are the worst affected. They worry about employment, about AI taking away jobs, about how they will fit into this terrifying new world. They know that all over Europe economies are in trouble (but they don’t ascribe any of that trouble to the horrific expense of supporting millions of Muslim migrants), that tens of billions of dollars more than at present will now have to be spent by their governments on defense in order to meet the percentage of GDP required of them as members of NATO. They are not having children; in every European country, the fertility rate has fallen below, sometimes far below, the replacement level. Meanwhile, the migrants from the Third World, especially Muslims, arrive by the millions — there are now 44 million Muslims in Europe — and seemingly unstoppable, at least by governments too confused and too cowed to grasp the nettle of pulling down the portcullis of Castle Europa, so that no more Muslims can enter, and deporting many of those who have managed to be admitted.

They join groups. They enroll their voices, and themselves, in the crowd. They follow the leaders who organize these protests, many of whom are people on the far-left, and Muslim migrants who want anger channeled away from them and onto Israel. How wonderful it is not to be an individual, but part of a crowd, a mob, marching along, all chanting the same slogan in idiotic unison.

In Germany, many of those who denounce Israel also attack other targets, such as the Christian Democratic Party that they blame for its austerity measures. But whatever else these European crowds denounce, Israel always ends up being the main source of rage. Mindless repetition of the charge “genocide” flung at the IDF is believed, precisely by dint of that repetition, by the empty-headed, of whom on this giddy globe there are far, far too many.
