Nearly 700 rabbis signed a letter two weeks ago warning that Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City would be “terrible for the Jews.” Other rabbis made their own statements in their own synagogues, warning that Mamdani, with his obsessive hatred of Israel, would make New York City less safe for Jews, and Israelis. He even promised to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for “war crimes” if Netanyahu dared to visit New York. Now another prominent rabbi, Chaim Steinmetz, of the Kehilath Jeshurun Synagogue, has issued his own warning about Zohran Mamdani, less than a week before the election. More on Steinmetz’ grim view of what’s to come, unless an electoral miracle occurs, can be found here: “NYC rabbi endorses Cuomo, calls Mamdani ‘genuine threat to our city,'” by Michael Starr, Jerusalem Post, October 26, 2025:
Kehilath Jeshurun Synagogue Rabbi Chaim Steinmetz urged New York City Jewry on Friday to vote for former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to become the city’s next mayor, warning that NYC Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani represented a threat to the community.
“Mamdani represents a genuine threat to our city and way of life. We must make sure he doesn’t get elected,” Steinmetz said in an open letter. “The only way to do that is by voting for Andrew Cuomo.”
Mamdani’s obsessions and associations
The rabbi noted that he had always tried to avoid politics and had never endorsed a candidate before, but Mamdani was “obsessed with Israel,” a focus that had been his since his early political ventures.Steinmetz said that, given the circumstances, he has been warning about Mamdani’s candidacy even since spring.
Further, the Modern Orthodox rabbi said that Mamdani had advocated for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions movement against Israel, had refused to recognize Israel as a Jewish state, and was reluctant to condemn Hamas.
“Just a week after the October 7 attacks, while rockets still rained down on Israeli civilians, Mamdani accused Israel of genocide – a slander he continues to repeat. He will not condemn the phrase ‘globalize the intifada,’” wrote Steinmetz.
“This kind of rhetoric fuels the hatred that has led to violent demonstrations and deadly attacks. It is unthinkable that the city with the world’s largest Jewish population could elect someone who refuses to understand this.”…
Over 1,000 rabbinical authorities from across the United States signed a Wednesday Jewish Majority open letter urging the public to vote for “candidates who reject antisemitic and anti-Zionist rhetoric, and who affirm Israel’s right to exist in peace and security.”
One of the signatories, New York Board of Rabbis president and Stephen Wise Free Synagogue senior Rabbi Ammiel Hirsch, on October 16, urged Mamdani to abandon positions that were geared toward delegitimizing and dismantling Zionism and Israel.
Mamdani, once elected, will be even more anti-Israel than he has been to date. He won’t have to tone down, as he did while running for mayor, his obsessive hatred of Israel. That hatred sits at the very core of his being; he’s been waging war on the Jewish state since he was a student at Bowdoin, setting up a branch of Students for Justice in Palestine. At home, his parents — especially his father Mahmood — encouraged this hatred.
The rabbis are a little late, alas. They ought months ago have performed due diligence on Mamdani, even before he ran in the primary, learned in depth about his long history of anti-Israel activism, his social media posts denouncing Israel for “genocide,” his refusal to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada” that signifies “kill the Jews all over the world just as they are being killed in Israel.” Months ago, the rabbis might have had time to persuade Eric Adams to quit the race far earlier, and Curtis Sliwa to quit at all (he’s still running, though he has no chance to win and is only helping Mamdani by taking votes away from Cuomo), and to fund an advertising blitz that would focus not just on Mamdani’s antisemitism, but also on his crazed economic plans, such as free buses (and who will pay for the hundreds of millions of dollars in lost revenues?), free and universal child care (ditto), and city-owned grocery stores that will sell food at cost, thereby driving other grocery stores out of business.
As Mamdani takes office, his lack of managerial experience — he’s held only one government job, as a member of the New York State Assembly — will immediately be evident. He’s 34, and has never been an executive of anything. His program of free buses, free and universal child care (even for the children of billionaires), and food sold at cost in government-owned groceries, show he has learned nothing from the catastrophic failure of Communists; he is, after all, not a believer in enlightened capitalism, but in “democratic socialism.” And his “Jewish problem “ will not go away, for the 1.3 million Jews in New York will be closely watching the obsessively anti-Israel Mamdani for signs of his continuing hostility to the Jewish state, and for favoritism in filling city government with fellow Muslims also opposed to Israel. It will be fascinating to see if Linda Sarsour, or Mahmoud Khalil, or Hatem Bazian, are given well-paid city sinecures.
Look on the bright side: as mayor, Zohran Mamdani will likely make a complete mess of things in New York City. He could well become a laughingstock, lose the next election, and likely will never be elected to anything again. And he will have discredited everything he stands for, including his determination to harm the Jewish state.

Mamdani’s not good for anything that’s good.
OLD GUY says
Your right Mamdani is not good for anyone but the muslim population.
Laurence Jarvik says
Your conclusion is just not the way it works. Once the Left gets in, they don’t leave voluntarily. Look at how Karen Bass burned down her city without consequences. Or how Democrats continue to ruin Chicago. Mamdani must be de-naturalized and deported should he win the election, in order to save NYC.
Wellington says
Perhaps, but perhaps not. Mamdani being the next mayor of NYC is arguably the single quickest route to the modern Democratic Party, which will utterly ruin America if allowed to do so, to it being once and for all destroyed.
The Democratic Party is presently the single greatest enemy of America (anyone doubting this, well then, provide me with your nominee for a greater enemy) and it now has been taken over by the Red/Green alliance. Thus, Mamdani, both Green and Red, neither of which benefit mankind and certainly not America, put forth in “full display” may prove to be the ultimate useful idiot respecting how to destroy the Democratic Party, a political party which needs to go the way of the Whig Party, with all due respect here to the Whig Party because in the final analysis it was not an enemy of America, merely used up and useless, contra the modern Democratic Party which is not only used up and useless but also traitorous.

James Lincoln says
Mamdani is certainly not ‘good for the Jews’ – or anyone else who values freedom.

Mamdani’s father has stated that suicide bombings (homicide bombings) shouldn’t be stigmatized. I guess that is they new “in thing” among the US left. If you disagree with them you are a, getting-yourself-blown-up-phobe.
Huh?!? says
I am stunned on how badly New Yorkers are stuck on stupid. This man is a socialist/communist, but that is not his main focus. He is first and foremost an Islamist. The Jews and Christians that cannot move out must prepare to band together to help each other.
tgusa says
Democrats love their Jew hating muslims and if you disagree with them you are a nazi.

I get his point, but Cuomo is an unacceptable candidate. This is the man who in 2014 told people that if they support the 2nd Amendment or are pro-life, New York does not welcome them. Now those same people are expected to vote for him? There was a blowout b/w Curtis Sliwa and a WABC host, who was livid that Sliwa was as hostile to Cuomo as Janice Dean. Shouldn’t everybody be? Why do we need to lose a relative to be on the same page as Janice Dean?
Granted that NYC is something like 70+% (D), but Sliwa too is mediocre. President Trump carried 33% of NYC voters last November, but Sliwa is only getting half of that. That’s b’cos he has stances that are indistinguishable from the Dems – oppose ICE… Then there is his animal obsession, which only highlights misplaced priorities, and the President was right to mock him on that issue
I’m thankful that I’m not a voter in NYC: Tuesday, I’ll be rejecting, along w/ Jay Jones, one muslimah named Ghazala Hussein for Lt Gov of Virginia. As well as that equine faced candidate Spanberger
tgusa says
Jon Leibowitz, aka Jon Stewart (J-New Jersey) thinks Mamdani’s candidacy is a Jackie Robinson moment. You cant make this stuff up. In the Yellowstone TV series adversaries are driven to the train station never to be seen again. In Jon’s case, he would drive himself.

NYC? lol
John Rocker wasn’t wrong. I doubt that even half of Zohran supporters read and write English and probably barely speak it well enough to get by.
I thought NYC was tough, but I guess that’s just the Fire fighters and NYPD the latter of which is questionable
tgusa says
“I thought NYC was tough”
You may have got that impression because the NYC left said so. It is akin to the movies where the 5’0″ 100 pound chick beats up the 6’2″ 220 pound dude. It is not reality, it is make believe. But it is in their script so it must be true!
tgusa says
NYC is dominated by democrats and they are really really tough as long as they stay in in their safe spaces.

“Mamdani’s dad sits with Hamas-linked financier on Gaza Tribunal pushing for US, Israel to face war charges”
“Zohran Mamdani’s scholar father was among the founders of the Gaza Tribunal, a group one critic likened to “a cesspool of London-based Hamas terrorists.”
The group is calling for “Israeli perpetrators and Western enablers” to face consequences over their actions in the Gaza Strip, The Post has learned.
The group’s website says it seeks to collect evidence against Israel regarding the war in Gaza sparked by the October 7, 2023 Hamas attacks which left 1,200 Israelis dead and over 200 captured as hostages.
Mahmood Mamdani, 79, attended the inaugural “preparatory” meetings of the “symbolic court of conscience” in London last year.”

The “Gaza Tribunal court of conscience”? That sounds like the Int’l. Organization of Genocide Scholars, which was brilliantly debunked by Israel’s i24 News and found to be a group of (in their own self-description) “scholars, artists and activists”, which *anyone* could join simply by sending in $30 at their website.

Of all politicians in the US accused of being Hitler, Mamdani is literally the closest. He is running on a socialist platform. And he is a nationalist, for the Muslim Ummah.
