Angela Rayner, who had been Deputy Prime Minister in Keir Starmer’s government, was forced to resign after her failure to pay a property tax of 40,000 euros on her flat in East Sussex was revealed. That, in turn, led to her position being filled by David Lammy, currently the Foreign Secretary. And Lammy’s successor as Foreign Secretary is Yvette Cooper, who is much more well-disposed to Israel than Lammy has been.
More on Labour’s cabinet shake-up can be found here: “Cooper’s first job as Foreign Secretary is to undo Lammy’s shredding of our relations with Israel,” by
The changing of the guard at the Foreign Office, where the more measured figure of Yvette Cooper is replacing the hapless David Lammy as Foreign Secretary, should result in the Starmer government adopting a more balanced approach to its dealings with the Middle East. Cooper’s first tweet in her new role did repeat the Foreign Office’s discredited line about famine in Gaza, but that is hardly a surprise….
With Lammy vigorously pushing an anti-Israel line, he had been sidelined both by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and by U.S. President Donald Trump, who cut the UK out of their plans for dealing with Iran’s nuclear program and with Islamic terrorism. Given Lammy’s anti-Israel animus, they didn’t want Lammy meddling in, or interfering with, whatever those plans might be.
As Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper should be able to repair the U.K.’s relations with Israel, which had become so tattered when Lammy served in that position. A strange series of events have made this possible. Angela Rayner’s failure to pay a property tax led to her resignation as deputy prime minister. Starmer chose David Lammy, the anti-Israel Foreign Secretary, to become Rayner’s replacement. And the position of Foreign Secretary, vacated by Lammy, will now be filled by Yvette Cooper, the most pro-Israel member of Starmer’s cabinet. For Israel, thanks to the Rayner scandal, things are looking up.

Cooper is just another idiot in a Government with no credibility whatsoever.
Labour hate Israel and want to keep Islam happy.
Don’t expect Cooper is suddenly going to change all that.
Let’s say it as it is. What possible reason would the UK Government want to repair relationships with Israel ?
Other European countries like France and Spain hate Israel. Don’t expect anything different from the UK.
Hugh Fitzgerald says
“What possible reason would the UK Government want to repair relationships with Israel ?”
A realization that Hamas has been lying and Israel telling the truth.
A dawning sense of decency.
A growing understanding that the jihadist imperative that threatens Israel also threatens the U.K. and the rest of the West.
A belief that Israeli high-tech weaponry and Mossad intelligence gathering are vital to the security of the state.
An understanding that the Muslim invasion has to be halted, Muslim criminals, including all illegals, msust be deported.
Jeffrey r fixler says
Indeed. Also, aside from the reasons you enumerated, there is perhaps something deeper that occurred with Lammy in particular. Last time the lamentable Lammy was in Israel he met with Abbas , and being who he is, he couldn’t help but open his mouth spewing some venom at the much beleaguered Israel. What it got him was a snub by Bibi as the Israeli PM refused to meet him citing a “scheduling conflict”. It isn’t well understood the scorn and contempt heaped on Lammy by many throughout the UK for being so foolish as to allow himself to be degraded in this manner. It was a diplomatic slap in the face from which there was no recovery. For an Israeli PM to refuse to meet the British Foreign Minister while actually in country is unprecedented. After that, the man wasn’t long for this world despite a promise from Starmer that Lammy would get at least a two year run as Foreign Minister. He embarrassed himself , and the UK in general.
Jeffrey r fixler says
The Rayner scandal just provided an opportunity for Starmer to jettison the hapless Lammy at the first available opportunity. After all, even this British Government can only take so many slaps in the face . Humiliation can be a very potent motivator.
Eddie says
O come on folks !
The UK Government cannot be embarrassed by it’s lame ducks !
This Government imprisons the native people for virtually nothing. It puts the “Human rights” of foreigners above the safety of our women and children.
The communist, marxist globalist and Islamist dominated UK Government has one main mission – to destroy the structure of Britain before the next election in 2029 and overwhelm the indigenous people with third world invaders.
Understand that and stop trying to rationalise the actions of this Government.
They are embarrassed by nothing.
Jeffrey r fixler says
Interestingly, the UK Government just released a letter Lammy wrote last week to a Parliament Committee while still Foreign Minister that the Foreign Ministry does not believe there is a genocide in Gaza. Silly that he should have even found it necessary to state the obvious, but it looks like there was some pressure on Lammy to correct course. Seems the slight course correction was too little, too late to save his sorry ass. He becomes Deputy PM, but everyone knows this is a disgraceful demotion. Good riddance!
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Oh, Labour does realize that. The blunt truth, as Eddie pointed out above, is that a huge number of Europeans hate both Jews and Israel
That’s why I argued weeks ago that despite their geographical location, Israel should rebrand itself as an Asian country (after all, that’s where it is!) and build business and cultural relations w/ Asian countries, like the ASEAN, India, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Philippines, et al. Forget about the European countries who hate you and are glad that Jews are out of there. Yeah, a good percentage of Israelis may be of European descent, but some 50% of them are Black or Brown. So just belong to the continent you are in – Asia!
Eddie says
Look Mr Fitzgerald the UK Government is not about to suddenly develop a conscience about the rights and wrongs of the Israel Hamas conflict.
Look at recent developments in the cabinet re shuffle.
Lammy a black racist hates Israel is now Deputy Prime minister and Shabana Mahmood, a Muslim openly pro Palestine supporter is now Home Secretary.
All the points you make would be the sendible response of a balanced democratic Government which puts the safety of it’s own indigenous people first and one which bows to common sense.
“A realisation that Hamas has been lying”
“Dawning sense of decency”
“Growing understanding of the jihadist imperative”
How do you make this stuff up ?
You will be telling us next that Reform is a right wing political party despite everything Farage openly says to the contrary.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Farage’s problem is that he thinks that he’s Britain’s Trump, due to a coincidence that happened in 2016 – Brexit winning the referendum, and months later, Trump winning the election. But there are some things that he misses:
⮞ There is only one Trump, and no one can replicate him. Even in his own family, Don Jr & Eric are popular, but nowhere close. From a British POV, had someone like a Richard Branson been Right-leaning, he might have come close. Essentially, one is looking for a superstar who’s big in the realm of business as well as major in other realms of the culture. I think Ireland gets close w/ McGregor
⮞ In 2016, Trump did on one occasion talk about ending muslim immigration, but never repeated it. However, he let it morph into a travel ban that initially had just muslim countries but later included some more of America’s enemies. Nonetheless, he has never said anything about either muslims nor islam since. He just follows policies that deports thousands of people who entered illegally, including muslims. Had Farage simply been quiet about this issue, that would have been fine. But he went out of his way to say that Britain can’t make an enemy of islam, and he has had colleagues like Zia Yusuf as party chairman. Totally destroying the credibility of Reform as a voice against jihadist activity
Wellington says
More expansively, Eddie, does any hope remain for Britain? I’ve gotten to the point, here across the pond in America, thinking ever increasingly that without another Oliver Cromwell the UK is pretty much gone. Yes, the fact that I catch myself thinking that another Winston Churchill will not be enough and that a new Lord Protector is needed only conveys to me how dire matters have become in Britain over the past quarter century or so.
I don’t mean to be dramatic, only realistic. What is the best course as you see it?
Eddie says
Wellington all I can say is that the native people of Britain are saying “NO ! Enough!”
We don’t have answers !
But ever increasing numbers of our folk know we cannot accept our Nation being destroyed and degraded in plain sight.
Politicians created our dire situation.
Politicians are clearly not going to put this right until Parliament faces open rebellion and cannot control us.
Parliament must be forced act by intimidation.
Fighting our streets and the police unable to check it and pushed aside by very angry people who have been tolerant too long.
That is the way I see this going and in the aftermath real Nationalist leaders may emerge who will bann the practice of Islam, mass deport foreigners and ignore world condemnation.
Nothing short of this will save the UK and Europe.
TimothyS says
I could give or take a foreign secretariat, but head cops: dei hires, Bezmenov would prefer the chief law enforcement head because they are a leading indicator on indictments, which rely over time on the initial arresting decisions.
In Canada our legal situation is more explicit. It lies in the 1995 Employment Equity act, for all practical purposes unchanged since its passage. All federally regulated industries are regarded racial, sex ie all “Protected Grounds” of discrimination under Canadian law but for White Males. That is unmistakable in the text of Legislation, and the bureaucracies that proliferated like mushrooms in its wake.
In Canada spotcheck audits check representation of crippled lesbians on a gaussian distribution, and with respect to potentially qualified individuals, promotions and pay raises are indicated to retain an appropriate demographic representation. Don’t forget the Muslims. The jews are a tiny proportion, no need to make particular allowances for them. If you don’t have any Jews we can just chalk it up to co-incidence.
Without the forthright honesty any party can responsibly expect, platitudes paint the making of a failed state. They can’t dignify us with a coherent reply. So they institute police officials who can punish logical questions about affiliation.
