Turkey’s attendance at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit is grave news for Western interests. Turkey is not a unifying force, as it is depicted in the article below; nor is it a bridge between the two worlds of the West and Central Asia. Its President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is manipulating his way toward realizing his goal of a revived Ottoman empire with himself as caliph.
Erdogan, who declared of the Taliban, “Turkey has nothing that contradicts their beliefs,” and the direction in which he has taken Turkey should long ago have been the reason for Turkey’s expulsion from NATO. Turkey is “the new Iran,” according to a top Israeli strategic analyst, and he had ample reason for saying this.
There is no “ balancing act” with respect to Turkey’s role in Asia, only an insidious attempt to gain more influence and power and become a leader of the Islamic world. Turkey also represents a nightmare for Israel in Syria.

The last paragraph – referencing the “Organization of Turkic States” (previously called the Turkic Council) – is one of the two international race-based organizations in the world, the other being the Arab League. Erdogan started it in 2009 w/ 3 of the ex-Soviet republics – Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan initially refused to join, since President Karimov saw Turkey as an islamizing influence, but since his death, Uzbekistan joined in 2019. Turkmenistan, where the original Seljuq invaders were from, chose to just have observer status. Somewhat inexplicably, Hungary too has an observer status and supported Azerbaijan in its war against Armenia
Ironically, Turkey’s closeness w/ Beijing precludes them from supporting a real Turkic victim of genocide – the Uyghurs, who call themselves “East Turkistan” and have more in common w/ Kyrgyzstan than w/ China. Every muslim country has been bought and paid for by Beijing, but whenever they run out of 💸, it will be interesting to see the OTS and the OIC turn on Beijing. That would be an Alien vs Predator I’d love to one day see
P.S. No, “Türkiye’s” membership doesn’t make it a bridge b/w Brussels & Beijing, or b/w Washington and Moscow. Trump, of all people, doesn’t need middlemen to talk to Putin. Similarly, the EU can easily engage w/ Beijing if needed w/o Türkiye’s help

Turkey was not fundamentalist recently until Erdogan. They are the next, Sunni, Muslim Brotherhood threat in the region. Their danger compounds when supporting the Al Qaeda jihadists of Syria.
