The manic focus on the IDF’s war in Gaza, and the denunciation of the Jewish state by much of the world for its putative “war crimes” and “genocide” in the Strip may have just been temporarily halted, as the latest terror attack in Jerusalem reminds the giddy globe of why Israel fights. Six people were murdered Monday and 12 were wounded, six of them seriously, when a pair of Palestinian terrorists opened fire on vehicles and pedestrians in Jerusalem’s Ramot Junction.
The two gunmen, residents of the West Bank, arrived at the junction shortly after 10 a.m. — according to some reports, by car — and opened fire at people waiting at a bus stop as well at a bus that had just stopped there.
Police said that a soldier and a number of civilians who were present at the scene fired at the terrorists and killed them.
The military said the soldier was an off-duty squad commander in the military’s new Hasmonean Brigade, a unit for ultra-Orthodox troops. Magen David Adom said four of the victims were declared dead at the scene, while two others were rushed to hospital and later succumbed to their wounds.
At least six others were listed in serious condition, as well as two whose status was moderate and three who were lightly hurt, according to MDA.
The dead were named as Levi Yitzhak Pash, 57, Yaakov Pinto, 25, Yisrael Matzner, 28, and Rabbi Yosef David, 43, Rabbi Mordechai Steintzag, 79, and Sarah Mendelson, 60.
The two terrorists were identified by the Shin Bet security agency as Mohammad Taha, 21, from Qatanna, and Muthanna Amro, 20, from Qubeiba. Neither had prior arrests, according to the Shin Bet.
“Why they fight” — why the Israelis fight — has just been brought, again, to our collective attention. The IDF is fighting in Gaza, Judea, and Samaria against Hamas and other groups to make sure that such atrocities as this terror attack on Israelis at the bus stop in Jerusalem become less likely. Will the world’s leaders send their condolences? Will they recognize what it must be like to live in Israel, the very small state forced to fight a multi-front war against the terrorists who would, if they could, destroy that state and expel or kill all of its Jewish citizens?

Thank you for reporting, this is heartbreaking but we know only those of us who really care about Israel will feel sincere empathy, the vast majority not even payintg attention to these attacks, some even rejoicing at the atrocities.
We must focus on our allies and forget about the hating crowds who someday will feel the weight of their bad karma, perhaps even sooner than we imagine.

The duplicity of the PLA (and Hamas, etc.) makes it very difficult to imagine a 2-state solution. President Trump is wasting his breath by sending Hamas a warning to stop its terrorist attacks in Israel and to release the hostages who Muslim terrorist had kidnapped.

What this means is that the soldier who responded – and helped prevent the attack from killing even more people than it did – was from the Haredi community, who historically have tended to stand aloof from the rest of less-strongly-religious Israeli society, and have generally refused to serve in the military. But since 7th October 2023 there has been a bit of a shift among some of the Haredi toward recognising that the allahu-akbaring Jihadis are coming to kill *everyone* and that it might be a good idea therefore to start awakening one’s inner Moshe, Caleb, Joshua and David, and learn to *fight* as well as study Torah. The IDF has been very willing to accommodate their particular requirements about kosher food etc, and the name of the Hasmonaean Brigade recalls the days of the Maccabees, when devoutly religious Jews fought like tigers to prevent their society and faith from being wiped out by the pagan imperial occupier, Antiochus.
Hopefully what this young soldier was able to do, because of the weapon that he was licensed to carry and had been trained to use effectively – and because of his military training giving him situational awareness and ability to act swiftly in a crisis, may inspire many other young men within the Haredi community to sign up! It IS possible to study, pray AND fight…

I note this unit is a new one and I think this young Ultra Orthodox chap will be very proud of his role in the army – fought for his people as well as ever putting time in the yeshiva.Protecting Israel this way brings the Torah to life for him, I hope.
The dead should not be dead. Unfortunately the Australian PM, Foreign Minister and Home Affairs c,own support the PA and Hamas by their actions and words.
Most Aussies are sick of this and have little confidence in them.

Israel did not handle the attack on Oct. 2023 properly, this may not have happened if Israel had simply reigned hell on Gaza, laid waste to the area for attacking Israel and its citizens.
There are no innocent victims in Gaza, even the children and women will kill Jewish people. They teach the children from birth on that it is their duty to kill non Muslims which is why I state there are no innocent people in Gaza. Sharia law, jihad states “Kill them where you find them” moto taught to children by their mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles and imam’s in the mosques.
