Should Rashida Tlaib Even Be in Congress?

“What does it mean,” the Manhattan Institute’s Tal Fortgang wrote in City Journal on Monday, “when a sitting member of Congress speaks at a conference attended by hundreds of terrorism sympathizers?” This was not simply a hypothetical question. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Ramallah) recently spoke at the People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit, and her words were so hateful, so incendiary, and so firmly aligned with the cause of enemies of the United States, that they give Fortgang’s a particular urgency, and lead to another question: if a sitting member of Congress hates America, should she be serving in Congress at all?

In her address at the People’s Conference for Palestine, Tlaib didn’t just express sympathy for the Palestinian Arabs and hatred for Israel. That much would have been expected, and nobody seems to mind it very much these days. But Tlaib also significantly enhanced the reputation she had already amassed for harsh, ugly rhetoric and unashamed anti-Americanism. What has become of us as a nation that there are people in one of our national bodies of elected representatives? What long-term damage might such people do to the strength and unity of our nation?

Tlaib, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), made it clear in her remarks that she considers herself to be part of an unapologetically subversive force within the United States. Tlaib thundered: “They thought they could kill us, rape us, imprison us, violently uproot us from our olive tree farms, starve our children to death, and we would disappear. Well, guess what, now we are in Congress and we’re [in] every corner of the United States.”

This declaration was bad enough when she said it, but after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, it’s even worse. Does she want to see the same things done to her enemies that she claims were done to the Palestinian Arabs? The possibility cannot be ruled out.

Tlaib’s statement was also ambiguous in an important sense: just whom did she have in mind as “we”? To whom was she referring as the ones who would keep coming despite being killed, raped, imprisoned, and the like? Palestinian Arabs? Muslims? Hamas jihadis? At the very least, it’s clear that she meant the supposed victims of Israel, whom she claimed the Israelis have violently mistreated, are now occupying the corridors of power in the United States.

This makes it clear that the conflict as Tlaib envisions it is not restricted solely to Gaza and Israel. It’s here. Tlaib says that those whom the Israelis have victimized are now in Congress and all over the U.S. And these people do not think, even though they’re no longer in Israel or its environs (if they ever were), that their role in the conflict is over.

    • There is one big problem with deporting Rashida Tlaib. The problem is that she is a naturally born United States citizen. She was born to Palestinian immigrant parents in Detroit Michigan in 1976. However I should sure like to see her removed from the United States Congress.

      • Unless she does something that actually runs afoul of U.S. law (and even then likely not) is to primary her.

        But, as we all know, she wins because Dearborn Muslims and their useful idiots have a lock on the system.

        Keith Ellison was elected as the Minnesota Attorney General by that state’s Muslim population and IT’S useful idiots.

        Rinse and repeat for all such elections.

      • I’m not sure, simply letting her spit vulgar hatred might be more effective in undermining the current populace raging support of Hamas/Palestinian violence.

        Both she and Ilhan Omar are very effective representatives against the wisdom of Muslim immigration. I can’t imagine CAIR wanting to sponsor them for anything – unless they are stupid.

    I had been thinking of grabbing some breakfast this morning, but I first went to skim the articles at JW. First thing I see is a photo of the winsome (as Robert would put it) Tlaib.

  4. Can’t a candidate be disqualified from even running if s/he has all the baggage that Rashida has? It would be undemocratic to demand her removal from Congress after a majority of her district has elected her, but if the barriers to run (citizenship, age limit,….) was expanded to include a criteria that one had to be loyal not just to the constitution, but the various democratic institutions of the country, that could be a great step. Sure, one could lie, but if that were demonstrated during one’s term in Congress, it would automatically result in one’s disqualification: it wouldn’t even be up to a vote in House or Senate

    I guess we don’t have the numbers to pass such amendments, but this sort of a simple amendment could address the threat of Trojan horses getting elected

  5. No Muslim should be serving in any government office at any time. Those that are in office need to be removed as they do not care about our nation or are upholding the Constitution. Muslims serving in political office are there for one reason as Islam allows them to serve for the purpose of conquest of the nation.

    New Yorkers who put Mamdani in office will rue the day they do because he will turn against the Jewish citizens, the Muslims will begin to attack and demand sharia law.

    All states must follow Texas, ban sharia law. It is a threat to our nation.

      • According to the Quran it does state that Muslims can serve in a foreign government with the intent to serve Islam’s conquest of a non Muslim nation. This is why you see Muslims in foreign governments, the UK is a prime example of how Muslims in that government have sharia law operating against the sovereignty of the nation and its citizens,

  6. Islam and its Muslims are a Terrorist, Criminal Enterprise against all Non-Muslims as taught in Islam’s Quran(Quran 9:5, 29, 111, etc.).

    Allah’s specious ideology in Qur’an 8:39 commands Muslims to fight Non-Muslims until they surrender to Muslim rule when it says, “And engage in war with them[Non-Muslims] until there will not be sedition and the religion will be completely to Allah…” Muslims are encouraged to conquer and subjugate every territory for Islam. Hence, Islam and Muslim actions should be legally challenged with a multi-faceted force of Western Laws like Muslims wield against Westerners via Tax Exempt Organizations, the Media and Hollywood, Foreign Funding, etc. because Islam violates and is incompatible with Western Laws(Quran 8:60; 9:5,29, 111; 47:4; 49:15; 65:4 etc.).

  9. No – she shouldn’t be in Congress – or the country for that matter – but she has been elected by those in her district. I would call her remarks treasonous and a call for violence. We are witnessing the result of – at least two decades of anti-American education along with immigration policies that have welcomed some who wish our destruction and are working towards that goal.

    Rashida Taib is the epitome and personification of antisemitism. Therefore, Taib must be “a noxious weed.” That is a fitting description of her. She should be expelled from congress and then from America.

  12. They’re very skilled in getting government money, grants and emergency money. They stick together so well, and get into power, like they for example approve all of their own people for Medicaid, get them the hookups , go tot heir own doctors who do scams with them. Pillaging the state takes community secrecy and hostility.

    Whites can’t get any Medicaid in Michigan, it is near impossible. Muslims are all on the dole. I’m not lying.
