Jonathan Speyer discusses meretricious Qatar, the chief supporter of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, that pretends to be a good-faith mediator between the terror group and Israel, here: “Playing arsonist and firefighter: How the West is falling for Qatar’s deadly game,” by Jonathan Spyer, The Jewish Chronicle, September 16, 2025:
Amidst the heated discussion over Israel’s assassination attempt on Hamas leaders in Qatar, the silence about Doha harbouring these terrorists is deafening. Worse still, while condemning Israel for striking those who orchestrated October 7, Western leaders are lavishing praise on the Gulf emirate as if it were a trustworthy ally rather than a funder of global Islamism and terror. Qatar exploits its cosy ties with Hamas to cast itself as an indispensable “mediator” – and the West allows it to get away with this charade.
The gas and oil rich Emirate has long provided a safe haven, finance and even arms to the who’s who of Global Terrorism Inc. It has shown a remarkable willingness to embrace every group from Al-Qaeda and Hezbollah through to ISIS and the Taliban, including Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the architect of the 9/11 attacks.
The same red carpet treatment was proudly given to Hamas. The terror group’s so-called ‘political’ leaders relocated to Doha from Damascus amidst the Syrian civil war and enjoyed their billionaire lifestyle until Israel showed its hand last week.
Qatar has made no secret of its support for this Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, becoming the terror groups’ principal political and financial backers. Former Qatari Emir Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani was the first head of state to visit Gaza after Hamas took power, and the cash rich country has disbursed north of £1 billion into Gaza ever since, including suitcases of cash for Hamas which Israel had mistakenly thought would buy quiet.
All the while, Doha-based Al Jazeera news network relentlessly pumps vitriolic Hamas propaganda around the world. This is the same channel that gave a programme to Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s spiritual leader, who endorsed the tactic of suicide bombings but was still regularly welcomed as the guest of honour at events hosted by Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
As the atrocities of 7th October were unfolding, Hamas leaders were filmed celebrating in their luxury Doha quarters. This chilling footage may have long-since been forgotten by most, but for the State of Israel it left an indelible mark and signalled that a new security paradigm was required.
Hamas’ leaders have been on borrowed time ever since. Israel’s security and military apparatus have successfully hunted and eliminated Hamas’ leaders one by one, with daring strikes in Tehran, Damascus and amidst the grinding house-to-house combat Hamas has imposed in Gaza.
For all their apparent outrage over Israel’s attacks, the leaders of Western capitals would do well to consider how their actions have enabled Qatar to execute their double game of promoting extremism across the world, while positioning itself as a key strategic ally. This hybrid war against Western interests has been conducted in plain sight….
For too long, Qatar has been permitted to pursue and gain from a regional strategy premised on support for extremism and fanning the flames of Islamist sedition and violence. Israel last week demonstrated the intrinsic limits of such a strategy – it only works for as long as its victims acquiesce to it. Israel has now made clear that it will no longer play its allotted role. Western governments would be well advised to do the same.
After the IDF attack on Doha, American media consistently referred to the emirate as being both a “friend and ally” to the United States. It is neither. It has been the financier of Hamas and other Islamic terror groups, including Al-Qaeda and ISIS, worldwide. It provides refuge to Hamas leaders. It plows tens of billions of dollars into the U.S. and the U.K. to buy influence, especially in universities where its money pays for Middle East study centers that promote the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood. Qatar owns Al-Jazeera, one of the world’s largest media companies, that devotes much of its attention to maligning the state of Israel. The Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Doha underlined the role of Qatar as the protector and financier of Hamas. The West should reconsider its naïve faith in Qatar as a “friend and ally.” It is using its billions to buy up influence worldwide, under the noses of those Infidels whose civilization it wishes to undermine.

That has GOT to be a typo

How so? Sadly, Infidels have often thought they could buy peace and quiet.

All of these countries know what the Musllims are doing and most admire them. It seems like most countries do not care if they are invaded and no longer care about anything except only a very few countries. American elites are only thinking of themselves, they live to steal from the people who have lesser things then themselves. I am elderly and the doctors no longer will treat me but they do bill my insurance which does not want to pay much so I am left with most of the bill and get no service. I cannot understand a doctors oath to do good has changed. Care for the elderly has changed, everyplace now states private care, that means you pay for everything, the government does not anymore. Things are changing rapidly and I wish I would have known but they keep those things secret. And Trump does not care either. If you are old and in a nursing home, the money is gone, you are sent to one that is not very good, I hope you know what that is. They know how to kill people, no water, no food help if you cannot no longer do it yourself. That is how they die, no food, no water. You need water to live.

Garry. your idea that we have to let Putin invade Europe unopposed if we expose Qatar is mistaken. Really, these issues are not mutually exclusive.

I believe that the EU has agreed to foot the bill of whatever the US gives Ukraine, and other EU countries. So now it will be up to the EU to ensure that the money is properly spent. Of course, if they don’t care, that’s on them!
Also, things are not going well for Russia, and I also just saw a report about Belarus’ President Lukashenko trying to mend relations w/ US, so that Minsk doesn’t get dinged w/ the same sanctions as Moscow. I do hope this war comes to an end soon, although I can see that Putin doesn’t have a credible off-ramp any more, and nor can the West give him one

Addition: I have been reading some great books by Dr. Vernon Coleman. Books are very informative, easy to read. He is a doctor from England and their country is in crisis and it is happening all over the world. I see it happening in America. If you buy his books you will not be disappointed. It appears now the people of England has had enough and two leaders has appeared.I hope.they can save England. One use to be on the news often but the Muslims tried to kill him and he was scared for a long time but came back because he loves England. The other, Tommy Robinson. If you do not know about him check it out. We need someone like them in America now.

I used to read Vernon Coleman. He became a huge anti Israel bigot, spouting the same UN and islamic garbage beloved of leftists and has massive anti Israel and antisemitic rants.

The deceitful, corrupt Leftist Leaders have be purchased by Islam’s Muslims like Qatar, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia against all Non-Muslims as taught in Islam’s Quran(Quran 9:5, 29, 111, etc.). As a result, the West will suffer greatly from Muslim discrimination, violence, and terrorism like the rapes in France, Great Britain, and Germany.
Allah’s damned Islam, a CRIMINAL-TERRORIST ENTERPRISE and a MURDEROUS-DEMONIC CULT OF BELIEVERS, Terrorist Muslim Soldiers for Allah, continually fund, promote, and practice ideological subversion, propaganda, bigotry, discrimination, deceit, industrial-scale slavery, intimidation, supremacy, segregation, hatred, incitement to violence, criminality, genocide, victimhood, censorship, and terrorism as taught in Islamic Law, Sharia, and in Islam’s Quran(Quran 5:14,35; 8:60; 9:41, 88, etc.). Allah in Qur’an 49:15 says, “Surely the believers[Muslims] are only those who believed in Allah and his messenger. They do not doubt, and they performed jihad with their MONEY and their LIVES for the sake of Allah. Those are the truthful.” Allah in Quran 4:101 says, “…Surely the infidels(Non-Muslims) were your clear enemies.”

I daresay Israel hasn’t exposed squat, for 2 reasons:
⮞ Everybody knew that Qatar was playing both sides of the issue – pretending to be an ally of the US (hosting the al-Udeid base as well as most recently gifting the US a 747-8 jet) while bankrolling the muslim brotherhood, and every other dawa/jihadist group worldwide
⮞ Western countries were fine w/ it, just like they were w/ Pakistan during the “War on Terror”. Qatari lobbyists in the West did a fine job bribing Western bureaucrats both in DC and Brussels
⮞ Aside from Israel, the countries not fine w/ it, ironically, were Qatar’s GCC neighbors, most notably Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Emirates and Bahrein. Particularly Qatar’s dealings w/ Iran and Turkey, as well as the muslim brotherhood. That’s why the Saudis have openly stated that they have nothing to do w/ Qatar, except the GCC regional military exercises that the US spearheads, so Riyadh doesn’t really have a choice. But these Arabs know that Doha is playing a double game, and unlike the Western countries, they are pissed at the al-Thanis
Otherwise, everyone in the world knew that Hamas was parked in Doha. In the last century, when Khaled Mashal lived in Damascus, he was a pariah, b’cos Syria was as well. But once that Syrian civil war broke out and he proved his sunni bona fides by leaving Damascus and dropping support for Assad, he was suddenly welcome. The Jordanians forced Israel to revive him after almost successfully assassinating him, and after that, he moved to Doha, where nothing was ever done to him. He & Hamas leadership lived like the sheikhs out there, albeit in suits, instead of traditional Arab garb
Somehow, no one seemed to have a problem w/ it, except the Arabs listed above, who couldn’t stand the muslim brotherhood. They were all prepared to strangle Qatar, except that the US in Trump 45 rescued them. So Qatar continued doing what it does, w/ no consequences
The only thing Israel did was signal Qatar that it would no longer be treated as a sacred cow simply b’cos it hosts the al-Udeid air base. One thing I hope Israel does in future – just take out al Jazeera, which all the other Arab countries loathe, since they are very honest about the issues in all Arab countries – except of course Qatar. The worst aspect of all this is that Qatar is the per-capita richest country in the region, w/ twice the per capita GDP of any other country in the region. The Saudis are barely making it sinking billions in that Neom project as well as trying to extract water from their underground or building expensive desalination RO plants
It would be a good idea to force Qatar to spend more on defense, so that they have less money for the muslim brotherhood, Hamas, and other dawa and jihad activity worldwide

Maybe overthrow the al Thani dynasty – execute all of them, and then do an airlift of every Palestinian to Qatar. Deport all the foreign expat workers there – Filipinos, Sri Lankans, Nepalese, Indians,… who are not muslim. Flood Qatar w/ just “Palestinians” from Gaza, Judea, Samaria and Israel proper

Yes–nothing “moderate” about Qatar.
࿗Infidel࿘ says
Precisely! I can accept that the Emirates and Bahrein are moderate, given how they have banned various dawa & jihad groups. I can even accept that Saudi Arabia is moderating, how they’ve done some of that and also ceased funding for these groups, as well as exploring ways of attracting non-muslims to that country for non-pilgrim tourism (in the past, business & pilgrimage were the only legally valid reasons Riyadh would allow one in)
But Qatar doesn’t even come close to these: they’re trying to grab the leadership of the ummah filling in what they think is a vacuum left by the Saudis
